He emphasized the importance of responsible reporting, saying “you stick to the issues, and that is the only way our region [will progress]. When you have alarmists as journalists, they draw the entire society backwards.”¹
Dr. Bin Salih encouraged journalists to continue focusing on developmental issues, as “no one will come and develop our region for us. It is us, natives and residents, who have to put our efforts together to bring the needed development.” With the December 7 election approaching, he urged journalists to concentrate on conveying the messages of political parties and candidates, promoting unity and development in the region.
The Minister also highlighted the region’s potential, citing the recent commissioning of a new gold mine, the third largest in the country, and significant mineral deposits. He emphasized the need for unity to benefit from these investments and encouraged media personnel to lead the way.
Additionally, he mentioned the commissioning of a 50-bed mother-to-child hospital and potential airport development, stressing that “the future is bright for us. Let’s come together as a people united in this region.”
Dr. Bin Salih’s speech demonstrated his commitment to developing the Upper East Region, which faces challenges such as conflict in Bawku. As the new Regional Minister, he aims to harmonize programs with national development policies and priorities.
