Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on Africans to work together to uphold the ideals of Kwame Nkrumah.

As we commemorate Nkrumah’s 114th birthday on September 21, Mahama urged Africans to focus on increasing trade within the continent, adding value to raw materials, diversifying economies, and creating better job opportunities for the youth. Mahama emphasized the importance of leadership that unifies and inspires, rather than divides and imposes.

He believes that by working together, Ghana and Africa can fully realize their potential and honor the memory of Nkrumah. Mahama highlighted his recent speech at the Humanity Summit in Portugal, where he discussed the need for a new paradigm of trade between the Global North and the Global South, incorporating Nkrumah’s concept of power.

During a recent address, Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of Africa becoming self-empowered. He highlighted that once Africa has established its own power, it will be able to negotiate with the Global North in a manner that prioritizes Africa’s best interests and is based on mutual respect and cooperation.

Mr. Mahama also emphasized that the establishment of such trade negotiations will signal the creation of a new trade paradigm between the Global North and the Global South.
