The Madina District Court has discharged Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the suspect in the high-profile murder case of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, following instructions from the Attorney General’s Office.
Ahmed Suale, a prominent member of the Tiger Eye P.I. investigative team, was fatally shot in January 2019 by unidentified assailants—a killing that sparked national outrage and persistent calls for justice. Despite widespread attention, the investigation and prosecution have seen little progress over the years.
Koranteng had been arrested and charged with murder and abetment of murder in connection with Suale’s death. However, at Tuesday’s court sitting on October 14, 2025, prosecutor Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfoa Bamfo informed the court that the Attorney General had directed the discontinuation of the case.
“We have been directed to discontinue the case upon the advice of the Attorney General,” she stated.
Acting on the prosecution’s withdrawal, the presiding judge ordered Koranteng’s discharge.
The decision to drop the charges is likely to rekindle debate over the state’s commitment to justice in the Ahmed Suale case, which, more than six years after the journalist’s murder, remains unresolved.
