NDC Aspiring parliamentary candidates in the Talensi Constituency
Apexnewsgh

Talensi District of the Upper East Region is another interesting place to watch on May 13, as the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) decides who their parliamentary candidate becomes and who leads them as the party flagbearer.

Apexnewsgh team must confess that Talensi is one of the difficult constituencies we faced a tough time during our view gathering from the delegates.

Eight contestants are battling for the seat in the Talensi Constituency and out of these eight aspiring candidates, one according to the party constitution must be selected as the party Parliamentary candidate ahead of the 2024 elections. However, for now, is unclear who the elected NDC Talensi Parliamentary candidate will be contesting from the NPP side.

All the eight aspiring candidates, according to our viewers are party members and entitle to contest the parliamentary seat.

Zones, popularity, Individual contribution and money are factors we identified as an influence in the upcoming NDC Talensi Parliamentary primaries. Some will be considered because of their ‘popularity’, some will be considered because of the ‘zone’ they are coming from, some will also be considered by delegates because of their ‘individual contribution’ to the party and some will also use ‘money’ to convince delegates and they always say, is delegates cocoa season.

Zinekena Solomon TTB:

“Has been a Party Agent – 2004, 2008, 2012, 2015, Elections, Serial Caller and Texter for NDC Communications – since 2007, Branch Secretary – 2008 to 2010, TEIN-NDC President – 2014/15, TEIN-NDC Ex-Officio Member – 2015/16, Regional Communications Team Member – since 2015, Aide to the Former Deputy National Women Organizer (Dr. Cate Deynu) – 2015-2016, Member of NDC Elections Monitoring Team – 2016 Elections, Member of Eastern Zonal Campaign Team – 2016 Elections Campaign, Constituency Secretary – 2018 to 2022, Member of Talensi Constituency Campaign Team – 2020 Elections, Member of Eastern Zone Campaign Team – 2020 Elections, Member of the Constituency Election Monitoring Team – 2020 Elections, Member of a four-member Constituency Team at Constituency Collation Centre (signed pink sheets for Parliamentary and Presidential) – 2020 Elections, Member of the Constituency Monitoring Team for the 2020 Voter Registration Exercise”.

Edward Awunore:

“Was the former DCE for Talensi from 2012 to 2016, he has contributed a lot to the party, he contested for the Parliamentary primaries in 2015 and became second to B.T. Baba. Before becoming DCE, he was a member of the party’s Regional Communication team, he has been part of the party campaigns from 2012 till date within the constituency”.

Peter Badimak Yaro:

“Is the Director of Basic Needs-Ghana, he has been supporting the party behind the scene and not only at the constituency but even at the national level and his support to the party has been very consistent anytime the need arises. He has donated a pickup which is been used by the current party chairman”.

Mahama Dung Daniel:

“He has been a party man. He attempted to contest the 2015 bye-election primaries but at a point rescinded his decision. He has been helping the party behind the scene monetarily anytime the need arises and he is in good standing”.

Nathaniel Daraan Kugre:

“He is not so much known. In terms of giving support to the party, not so much can be said about him. But he is a member of the party”.

Martin Atia Aduko:

“He is a party member, this is the first time he is coming to a contest. In terms of support to the party, not so much could be said about him, except to say that last year when he made his decision to contest, he decided to renovate the party office.

However, in the 2020 election, they all collaborated in terms of the campaigns, especially in the Western area. He has been a party member, during the bye-election he was around to ensure that we win the seat”.

Dickson Krug Kpelim-Etime:

“He attempted to contest the primaries in the 2012 Parliamentary primaries, which saw Hon. John Tia winning the primaries and subsequently losing the general election. In 2015 again, he attempted coming but at the last period, he rescinded his decision and since, he has been a party man, when it comes to campaign in 2016-2020, he was actively involved”.

Rockson Aditiba:

“He also contest the primaries during the bye-election and lost. And since, he has been a party man. At least once in a while, we see him at our programs”.

Our Prediction:

Per the information we have gathered so far, we are tipping any of these five candidates below to emerge victorious after the delegate’s decision on May 13.

However, ‘if’ the zone factor plays as we normally witnessed in almost all the Talensi political elections, then the Talensi Constituency is likely to elect the youngest candidate amongst the eight in the person of Solomon TTB. This is because, he is the only representative coming from the Eastern Zone which is perceived to have the largest votes.

Edward Awunore

John Yaro

Mahama Dung Daniel

Nathaniel Daraan Kugre

For the Flagbearership, John Dramani Mahama will get over 80.5 percent ahead of his other contenders Dr. Kwabena Duffour, a former Minister of Finance and Mr. Kojo Bonsu, a former Mayor of Kumasi will share the rest of the votes.
