Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, Upper East Regional Communication Officer, has refuted allegations regarding the recent viral video in which Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and several party members were seen swearing an oath with their lives and those of their innocent children in the name of politics. Salifu maintains that their actions do not align with the party’s ideology.
The video has sparked significant criticism from the Ghanaian public, who have raised numerous questions about its implications.
Salifu, a respected member of the party, expressed his disapproval of Afriyie Ankrah’ behavior, stating that he felt it was unnecessary to go to such extremes. Salifu noted that it would be more fitting for their work and actions to demonstrate their loyalty to the party, rather than taking such drastic measures.
Salifu further explained that there may have been underlying issues stemming from the internal contest preceding the national elections in which trust became a concern. Specifically, there were concerns about the handling of results collation and declaration during Afriyie Ankrah’s tenure as the Director of Elections in 2020.
According to Mr. Salifu, these issues developed a perception that hindered his consideration for the position of general secretary.
Promotions within the party are typically contingent on an individual’s performance in their current role. Thus, Elvis was appointed as the Director of Elections, which raised questions regarding his previous performance in that position. Salifu suggests that the controversial video may have been an attempt to address this perception still lingering in people’s minds. However, he emphasizes that Elvis’s actions have crossed a line in his opinion.
Meanwhile, while Jonathan Abdallah Salifu acknowledges the underlying concerns surrounding Elvis and his fellow party members, he advocates for a more measured and effective approach to prove loyalty to the party and dispel any doubts or negative perceptions.
