The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled official guidelines for the conduct of its parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central Constituency, paving the way for the upcoming by-election necessitated by the passing of the sitting MP, Dr. Murtala Muhammed.
According to the party, nomination forms will be available at the NDC Northern Regional Office, where completed forms are also to be submitted. In a statement signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey on Wednesday, August 20, the NDC indicated that a certified delegates’ list will be provided to all aspirants following a vetting process.
Regarding fees, the party announced that nomination forms will cost GH₵5,000, with filing fees set at GH₵40,000. However, female aspirants and persons living with disabilities are entitled to a 50 percent concession on the filing fee. “Nomination Form Fee: GHC 5,000 (to be paid in cash upon collection). Filing Fee: GHC 40,000 (to be paid in cash only into the official Party bank account. Concessions: Female aspirants and persons living with disabilities are entitled to a 50% reduction on the approved filing fee,” the statement outlined.
The NDC further emphasised that all filing fees must be paid in cash directly into the party’s official account at Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), Adabraka Branch, and that cheques or bankers’ drafts will not be accepted.
Aspirants and their supporters were urged to comply strictly with the guidelines and to conduct their campaigns with unity, decorum, and fairness. The by-election is set to fill the seat left vacant by the late Dr. Murtala Muhammed, with the NDC’s process now formally underway.
