President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), replacing COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. Apexnewsgh reports
This move comes after speculation surrounding the change in leadership, which was finally confirmed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President, on March 13, 2025.
COP Yohunu brings an impressive 40 years of experience to the position, having served in various capacities within the Ghana Police Service. His appointment is expected to usher in a new era of modernization and transformation within the force.
As the new IGP, COP Yohunu will be tasked with overseeing the reform agenda of the Police Service, driving efficiency, integrity, and public safety. With his wealth of experience and reputation for delivering results, expectations are high for his tenure.
The appointment was made in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution, following consultation with the Council of State. COP Yohunu is expected to be sworn into office on Friday, March 14, 2025.
