In the heart of political tensions in the country, a clash of ideologies and strategies emerged between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as they debated the significance of signing peace accords ahead of the upcoming elections. Apexnewsgh reports

The NPP, voicing their concern, condemned the NDC’s stance of abstaining from endorsing the peace agreements, labeling it as a departure from a genuine dedication to ensuring peaceful electoral processes.

At the forefront of this discord stood the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who openly expressed skepticism regarding the efficacy of such pacts.

Citing historical instances where similar agreements fell short, he questioned the practical impact of signing peace accords, dismissing them as mere symbolic gestures that do little to forestall violence.

In a bold assertion, Nketia emphasized the need for proactive measures to curb the escalation of tensions, rather than relying on signed declarations that he deemed ineffective. His analogy likened the process to signing a peace pact before a football match, suggesting that the real solution lies in addressing underlying issues that fuel potential conflict.

In response, Mr. Akbar Yussif Khomeini, the Deputy National Communications Director of the NPP 2024 Campaign Team, took to the airwaves to stress the paramount importance of national peace and stability transcending political interests. He underscored that safeguarding the nation’s peace was fundamental to upholding democracy, surpassing individual party agendas.

Addressing the NDC’s reservations about the peace council’s perceived inaction in previous electoral disputes, Khomeini rebuffed claims that the responsibility for preserving peace rests solely on the council. He asserted that all citizens bear a collective duty to uphold the nation’s tranquility.

Disputing the NDC’s argument that signing peace accords offers no guarantee of peaceful elections, Khomeini underlined the moral obligation attached to such agreements. He painted them as a pledge to resort to legal avenues in times of disagreement, rather than succumbing to violent means.

Calling for reconsideration from the NDC, Khomeini appealed for a unified front in signing the peace accords as a testament to an unwavering commitment to the nation’s welfare.
