The Chief, Tindana, alongside the community, took the initiative to unite all political actors, emphasizing a commitment to fostering a harmonious environment as elections approached.

Hon. Ayinyesima Abiire, the Zorkor-Gamborongo Assembly Member, led the charge, emphasizing the engagement’s focus on political parties, parliamentary candidates, constituency chairpersons, and polling station executives.

With representatives from the NDC and NPP in attendance, the community made a collective decision to reinforce the importance of a peaceful campaign, aiming to eliminate the pervasive issues of alcohol distribution, hate speech, and violence.

According to the community’s directives, strict guidelines were established. Politicians were prohibited from distributing alcohol to the youth or using drugs as tools for inciting violence.

Campaign activities, especially in school settings, were to be conducted with care to prevent any damage, and politicians were required to rent canopies and chairs to protect community property.

The atmosphere was charged with the determination to prevent past electoral issues from resurfacing. Hon. Abiire acknowledged the urgent need to document these directives, given the troubling nature of recent elections. The community’s resolve to build a peaceful environment was palpable, demonstrating the strength of grassroots efforts in promoting stability.

The meeting, skillfully orchestrated by Mr. Baba Moro, underscored the need for cooperation among all political factions. His message on the importance of a peaceful campaign resonated deeply with attendees. Mr. Edward Awudu, the NDC election coordinator, expressed his gratitude for the initiative and committed to following the community directives for a smooth electoral process.

Adding to the conversation, Mr. Stephen Atua, a former Assembly member, reminded everyone that politics should not transform into a life-or-death struggle. Drawing inspiration from the political grace of brothers John and Samuel Abu Jinapor, he reinforced the idea that mutual respect is essential, regardless of political affiliations.

The gathering not only served as a platform for dialogue but also showcased the community’s dedication to fostering a collaborative spirit. Members shared their thoughts openly, further solidifying the commitment to peaceful elections that everyone envisioned.

As the meeting concluded, it was clear that Zorkor-Gamborongo was setting a precedent for other communities. Their initiative highlighted the significance of community-led peacebuilding and the strength that comes from engaging stakeholders.

With a unified goal and shared values, the people of Zorkor-Gamborongo were poised to face the upcoming elections in a spirit of solidarity and peace, inspiring others to follow suit.

Among the attendees, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate Charles Bawadua reinforced the importance of this collaborative effort.
