North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has called on authorities to urgently replace essential documents lost by his constituents following the recent VRA spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong dams.
The floods that resulted from the spillage have caused widespread displacement and loss in Mepe and surrounding areas of the Volta region.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Mr. Ablakwa stressed the need for immediate action to replace important documents such as Ghana Cards, Health Insurance Cards, Birth Certificates, Voter ID Cards, and Passports for those affected by the floods.
He urged relevant institutions to carry out these replacements free of charge, given the challenging circumstances faced by his constituents.
However, Mr. Ablakwa called on the government to fulfill its constitutional duty to begin resettlement efforts and provide compensation to the victims of the VRA spillage without delay. He emphasized that any further delays in assisting these individuals would be unacceptable and urged the government to act promptly and effectively to address their needs.
