The NDC Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has challenged the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to show Ghanaians one factory they built as a government 5 years down the line. Apexnewsgh.com report

Speaking in an interview with ApexnewsGH on Friday, April 8, 2022, the Navrongo legislator threw the challenge whiles responding to some issues raised by Dr. Bawumia during his TESCON encounter on Thursday.

“In Ghana today, let the NPP show us one factory they started as a new factory as a government of Ghana. They only came to support individual existing projects”.

“Under the One Village One Factory (1V1F) policy, no single factory has been built by this government and they claimed they have been able to revamp about 130 factories and they don’t want to use the word revamp. Can you show me a factory the NPP built that has recruited over 300 people in Ghana 5 years down the line?”.

In the Upper East Region, can they show us just one factory they have built for the region?”. Mr. Sampson Tangombu asked.

Meanwhile, according to governing New Patriotic Party, the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative is the vision of His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to change the nature of Ghana’s economy from one which is dependent on import and export of raw material to one which is focused on manufacturing, value addition and export of processed goods. These raw materials are largely found in the districts which would have otherwise gone waste.

The initiative as proposed by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is private sector-led. Government creates the necessary conducive environment for the businesses to access funding from financial institutions and other support services from Government agencies to establish factories. Ghanaian entrepreneurs will thus own the companies, operate them and bear all the risks and rewards of the projects.

However, since its launch on 25th August 2017, the people of the Upper East Region are yet to see even one of the old collapsed factories such as Pwalugu tomato factory, and the Meat factory at Zaurungu revamp.
