Hundreds of residents from the Bolgatanga Municipality, Bolgatanga East and the Talensi Districts today joined the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu to mark the maiden edition of the National Fitness Day.
The over four hours Walking Exercise which started from the Bolgatanga Astro-Turf Park, popularly known as ‘Mobile Park’, saw residents walk on some principal streets of the Regional capital, Bolgatanga.
The exercise brought together officials from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Fire Service and some selected school cadets within the Municipality.
At the end of the walk, the participants reconvened at the start point and underwent some aerobics.
Addressing participants after the exercise, Hon. Yakubu said there was the need as residents and citizens of the nation to keep fit, “Remember that the exercise is a national activity that involves all 16 Regions as well as Municipalities and Districts.”
The Minister was impressed about the turnout, as he underscored its importance, and observed that some officials after the exercise, realised “old age is catching up.”
