Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists Thomas Partey‘s early substitution in the second half of their Europa League game against Olympiacos was purely tactical. Thomas Partey provided the assist as Arsenal took a 34th-minute lead through Martin Odegaard, but had to be replaced ten minutes after the break by Dani Ceballos. “No, it was all tactical decisions or things that we wanted to change in the game,” Arteta revealed. “Because I wanted to change him and bring somebody else in to try to find some other stuff and try to change the shape with the way we were playing inside,” he added. Olympiacos leveled three minutes after Partey’s substitution through Yousef El Arabi, but a late surge by the English giants saw them reclaim the lead to go on and win 3-1. Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães put Arsenal in the lead with ten minutes left before Egyptian star Mohammed El Nenny sealed victory five minutes from time. Partey has now made 17 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal and has two assists to his credit. He is yet to net his first-ever Arsenal goal. Prediction: Leicester City and Arsenal match prediction
All eyes will be on King Power Stadium when Leicester City and Arsenal take on each other in the Premier League round 26. The Foxes are enjoying yet another season to remember, with the team sitting in the third position in the standings. Brendan Rodgers’ men are on the right track to book their place in the Champions League, but they need to keep on impressing if they are to secure a top-four finish. Justin, Fofana, Perez, Praet, and Morgan remain sidelined with injuries, while Maddison should be fit to face Arsenal. The Gunners, on the other hand, aim to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Man City. Arsenal have been producing fine displays in 2021, and seeing that Aubameyang has found his goalscoring touch of late, both teams to score betting option should be considered. Thomas Partey should be the only absentee in the away side. “There are no excuses. We have to improve- Arteta
Arsenal received a humiliating 2-1 from Wolverhampton on Sunday in the Premier League in a game overshadowed by a serious head injury to Wolves forward Raul Jimenez. The 29-year-old Jimenez was taken away on a stretcher in the fifth minute and then to a hospital, after a collision with Arsenal defender David Luiz while both challenged for a corner from Willian. Jimenez, a Mexico international, is conscious and talking, Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo said. He will undergo a scan. “He speaks, he’s aware. He’s doing a scan,” the manager said, adding that the team was still worried about Jimenez’s situation. “Now we (will) have a proper assessment. But he’s in good hands.” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said Luiz never lost consciousness and went through all the necessary medical tests when a head injury occurs. Arteta said Luiz was substituted before the start of the second half because the defender had a nasty cut and wasn’t comfortable heading the ball. “Hopefully it’s not as bad as it looks,” he said. While Wolves players were visibly upset by the incident, they went on to take control of the match. Wolves opened the scoring in the 27th when Pedro Neto slotted in a rebound after Leander Dendoncker’s header crashed off the crossbar and fell to Neto in the six-yard box. Adama Traore created the chance, beating Kieran Tierney with a run down the right before the winger lifted the ball into a dangerous area. Gabriel equalized for Arsenal three minutes later with a towering header as four defenders, including one pulling his shirt couldn’t stop the Brazilian from scoring. Wolves made it 2-1 in the 42nd when Daniel Podence took advantage of the rebound after goalkeeper Bernd Leno couldn’t collect Neto’s shot, which bounced off his legs for Podence to volley home. Neto’s run through Arsenal’s shaky defense created panic in the penalty box and allowed Podence to drift in to pounce on the loose ball. Traore nearly made it 3-1 in the fifth minute of injury time of the first half after cutting in from the right, but his shot crashed into the side netting. Willian nearly equalized for Arsenal with a free kick in the 57th, but it rose just over the bar. Rob Holding also had an open header but couldn’t connect with a Saka cross. It was the first away win for Wolves against Arsenal since 1979, bringing the team up to sixth in the Premier League. “We did what Raul would have wanted: for us to focus on the match,” Neto said. “We had to win the game for him and dedicate the victory to him.” Espirito Santo said he was pleased with his team’s performance, considering the shock of Jimenez’s injury. “I’m very proud,” he said. “This team showed heart today. A will, a belief. The way they run, they way they work.” Arsenal, meanwhile, hasn’t won a Premier League game since Nov. 1, when the Gunners beat Manchester United, and languish in 14th place. “We didn’t have enough shots,” Arteta said. “There are no excuses. Arsenal make £45m move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Partey
Arsenal have made a late move to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid before tonight’s transfer deadline, Goal has learned. The Ghana international – who has a release clause of £45 million (€50m/$58m) – has been a priority target for the Gunners all summer. Discussions with Atletico have taken place during the past few months, with Arsenal hoping to land the midfielder for a fee less than his release clause, but Atletico have consistently stated that the only way Partey will be leaving this summer is if that clause is activated. Arsenal have previously indicated that the release is too high, but Goal has been told that stance has now changed and Arsenal are willing to meet the clause and have indicated such to La Liga, who hold the player’s registration. Arsenal’s legal team are now at the club’s London Colney training ground working to get the deal done. Speaking about possible incomings after Sunday’s 2-1 win against Sheffield United, boss Mikel Arteta reassured fans that the club would be doing all they can to add to the squad before Monday night’s deadline. “What I can guarantee is that we are doing our maximum for that to happen, whether we are going to achieve it or not, I don’t know,” said the Spaniard, when discussing the possibility of bringing in new signings. “I cannot discuss the players that we want but we recognise certain positions that we believe we are short in. First of all in numbers and then adding different qualities to complement each other and this is what we are trying to do. “I always try to be really honest and clear. Believe me that the ownership, the board, myself, are doing everything we can to maximise the resources we have to improve the team and to sustain and keep the players that are in this club to make this club successful. “I have 100% backing from them. It’s not just words, it’s reality. Whoever knows me, if it wasn’t like that I wouldn’t say it but I say it because I feel it and it’s true.” Partey has been one of Arsenal’s top targets this summer along with Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, who has now confirmed he will be staying with the French club for another year. Atletico do not want to lose their midfielder and have given him assurances that he will be handed a new contract once the financial difficulties brought on by the coronavirus pandemic begin to lessen, but as previously reported by Goal, Partey wants a move to Arsenal and has been waiting to see if a deal can be struck. The Gunners have now made their move and are trying to finalise the transfer before tonight’s 11pm deadline Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana Please kindly contact APEXNEWSGH on Email:apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications
