Arrest Chiefs flouting road safety laws – Otumfuo to MTTD

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has directed the Road Safety Authority and the Police Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) to discharge their duties devoid of fear or favour. Otumfuo who is displeased with the increasing road fatalities and indiscipline among private and commercial vehicle drivers, directed the security agencies to arrest any Chief or person who flouts the road safety regulation irrespective of the person’s status in the country. “It has come to my attention that Nananom are part of indisciplined vehicular driving in the region. The police and road safety officials are afraid to arrest them because they have my photo and Manhyia stickers embossed on their cars. Note that my sticker is not a licence and I have not directed anybody to use my sticker as a driving licence for which reason they feel big to stop at police checkpoints,” he said. Otumfuo added that “Police and National Road Safety Authority, I haven’t issued out any paper to you that my sticker is a licence so do your work. If you see any chief driving without insurance simply arrest him nothing more.” He added “I don’t have any sticker embossed on my car therefore if you arrest a person and the person says he is from Manhyia because my picture is embossed on his car, bring him to the palace and let see if that car is mine’’. Otumfuo gave the order over the weekend when personnel from the road safety authority paid a courtesy call on him at Manhyia Palace. –Starrfm Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Green Ghana Project: Asantehene plants first tree in Ashanti region

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II today planted a tree, as part of the Green Ghana Project. The project is aimed at planting five million trees in a day across the country. His daughter, Nana Afia Kobi Serwah Ampem Osei Tutu, also planted a tree to celebrate her 16th birthday today. The trees were planted during a short ceremony organised by the forestry commission to commence tree planting at the Royal Golf Park at Danyame in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti region. Other dignitaries who also planted trees include the Deputy Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources, Benito Owusu Bio; Ashanti regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah; the regional Forestry Manager, Augustine Gyedu among others. The Ashanti region planned to plant 1 million trees but according to the Regional Forestry Manager, Augustine Gyedu, seedlings distributed across the region have exceeded the target by 200,000 due to high demand for the seedlings. The Deputy Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Benito Owusu Bio complained about the severe degradation of the forest reserves due to illegal mining activities, illegal logging, bush fires and bad agricultural practices. He stressed the need for Ghanaians to participate in the government’s Green Ghana Project to restore and protect the degraded forest cover. Public and private organisations and individuals are joining the tree-planting fray. President Akufo Addo, Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh and some diplomats are participating in the Green Ghana Project. What kind of chief are you if you have given your land for galamsey?

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has questioned why chiefs should give out their lands for galamsey. According to Osei Tutu II who was speaking in a regional consultative dialogue on small-scale mining at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)m in the Ashanti region, he said about 30 percent of the people present during the conference knows those involved in the galamsey activities in the country “Let’s be honest with ourselves else we will do these conferences to no avail. Any chief who has given land for galamsey must feel guilty. What kind of chief are you if you have given your land for galamsey? They said I shouldn’t speak if I do, I will say a lot of things so I’ll stop here”. “On my part, I have already warned my Chiefs and elders against participation in such illegalities, and I will not hesitate to strongly sanction any such infraction. Already I have had reports on some things happening at Amanse, the Fomena area, and I will be investigating that to see what is happening,” he said.
