Ben Ephson, the Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper has stated, that religion will play a significant role by way of determining the person becomes the next presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).Apexnewsgh.com reports According to the pollster who spoke on Tuesday’s edition of the ‘Good Evening Ghana’ programme monitored by Apexnewsgh.com he said “If you realized, the Wesley Girls Muslim thing really went into overdrive and I suspect that certain supporters of some of the candidates will use the Muslim card. They will play the religious card, they are going to play it.” He added that such card play will unify the Muslims who may have been voting for another political party. “Now, that will have a double-edged sword because when you play the Muslim card, you are going to unify the Muslims who may have been voting for another political party…that means the Christian vote is going to be split among three or four candidates; that is the danger of the card that could be played.” “as we speak now, most of the candidates who are serious either they are at the various regions where the voting is taking place, or they have highly placed persons within their campaign team to be there and try to get their supporters elected at the various levels… “I believe that, from the 2007 experience where they had 17 leading members, contesting for the slot, I am sure the various mechanisms put in place by the NPP will ensure that three or four or five will be voted for…and it could be very interesting.” He said Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Flagbearership race: Sack Alan, Akoto Afriyie – Ben Ephson to Akufo-Addo
Pollster Ben Ephson has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack Trade Minister Alan Kyeremanten and Agric Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto for acknowledging their interest in the presidency. According to him, it is only appropriate that the president applies the same rule of disallowing ministers to campaign for presidency whilst in office like he did in the case of Joe Ghartey when he intended to contest him. Speaking on Starr FM, Ben Epson said, “The President must sack the two ministers once he himself has acknowledged that they are interested in the presidency. By the same rule that applied with Joe Ghartey when he spoke in that radio interview, he must sack the two. “The president had said that he will not allow people to be ministers and still campaign to be president and that rule affected Joe Ghartey,” he added. The pollster’s comment comes after the president, during an introduction of his minister at Manyhia in Kumasi told the Ashanti Monarch that both Alan and Dr Afriyie Akoto have their eyes on the Presidency. “Asantehene, allow me to introduce my team members. Here is your grandson, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, my Agric Minister who wants to become the President. Nana, this is Alan Kyeremanten, he has been vying for my seat for a very long time, a very workaholic Minister,” he added. —Ghanaweb Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. MMDCE list: Demonstrators hired – Ben Ephson
The disgruntled grassroots members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) who are demonstrating against President Nana Akufo-Addo’s list of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executive nominees have been hired to do so, political pundit Ben Ephson has said. According to Mr Ephson, the best option for the assemblymen and women of the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies is to vote against the president’s nominees if they are unhappy with the list and, thus, demonstrating and vandalising property betrays the up-to-no-good scheming of some interested political elements who have paid people to cause mayhem. His comment comes on the back of pockets of disturbances that have greeted the president’s list of MMDCEs across the country. In Chereponi in the North East Region, some angry youth on Sunday, 19 September 2021, destroyed some structures over the nomination of Zuwera Mada Nashiru as the District Chief Executive. The youth preferred S. K. Orlando. The timely intervention of the district police de-escalated the tension. Reacting to this development on the Class Morning Show on Class91.3FM on Monday, 20 September 2021, Mr Ephson noted that destroying property was not the solution to getting the president to change his mind about his nominees. The pollster told show host Kofi Oppong Asamoah that: “If those supporters are actually on the ground, it will be reflected in the voting to confirm the MMDCEs”. “If people are not paid to go out and demonstrate against the president’s choice and the person is popular, the various assembly members are voted in, so, ‘if I support Mr A and Mr B is chosen and I’m angry, I’ll tell my assembly member not to vote to support this person; if you do, the next assembly election I’ll not vote for you.’ This is where the reflection will be because those who are agitating how many of them are actually foot soldiers? “So, if you’re angry and the district assemblies work at the grassroots level, then there’s no need to demonstrate. They’ve been hired and paid and, unfortunately, it is not going to help them because the long period has given an opportunity for them [MMDCE nominees] to be able to gather their things well …,” he stated. Asked who had been paid, Mr Ephson said the demonstrators. “They have been paid to demonstrate. If you are actually on the ground, tell your assembly man not to confirm the president’s nominee. There’s no need shouting and destroying offices. If the person is on the ground, you, the aggrieved people, tell your assemblyman: ‘Don’t pass this nominee’.” He further stated that the bankrollers behind the demonstrators are “the interested people, the businessman and my good friend the incumbent MCE and he’s not been given the appointment again, ‘I’ll ask people to demonstrate as if that will change the president’s mind.’” He advised the demonstrators against acts of vandalism, saying: “It is a better option for you to go and talk to the assemblyman when it comes to confirmation and say: ‘Don’t confirm the person nominated by the president.’” —classfm Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Ben Ephson sends strong message to Judicial Service will shock you
Veteran journalist, Ben Ephson, has described as unnecessary threats contained in the caution statement by the Judicial Service to media houses. According to him, the Judicial Service could have demanded better exercise of discretion by the media without threatening them. The Judicial Service has, in a statement, called on media houses to remove stories they describe as inciteful or insulting towards judges. “We must notify you, and we hereby do, that should you fail to heed our client’s demand as specified in paragraph 14 above, we have our client’s instructions to take appropriate action to ensure that you do not abuse the right to free speech by deploying and/or permitting your platform to be deployed in a manner that not only threatens our constitutional order and democracy but obviously, adversely interferes with the due administration of justice and also, brings it, into disrepute,” a part of the statement said. Commenting on the development, the pollster said: “I believe the judicial service should be taken through the nuances of how the media works. The judicial service had made their point clear but that threat in their statement was unnecessary. I think the GJA should let them see their workings,” he told Starr FM Monday. Also commenting, lawyer and journalist Samson Lardi said the Judicial Service should have cited the offending media houses. “I wish in their petition, they mentioned the specific media houses and given examples of what they have done. It would’ve been better if we got to know the content and those who are carrying it. But for the enquiry I made, I wouldn’t have known my platform wasn’t part,” he said. Ben Ephson reveals why NPP MPs voted for Alban Bagbin instead of Oquaye
Despite having the advantage of the declared support of an independent Member of Parliament giving them a figure lead, the New Patriotic Party lost its bid to have its candidate elected for the 8th Parliament Speaker Position. According to popular Ghanaian pollster, Ben Ephson, Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin beat Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye in the race due to his character of fairness and firmness which he has exhibited over his seven-term period in parliament as an MP and as a Second Deputy Speaker at some point. Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Daniel on Oduro, Mr. Ephson said Alban Bagbin being a principled person may have won the hearts and votes of his Parties MPs and even members of the NPP who may have voted for him in the closely contested elections based on his history “Yes, NDC proposed him but I must be honest that even John Mahama knows that the man who is the speaker is a very fair person. When John Mahama was president, Bagbin took Mahama on. This is how firm the man is and I am sure because it was Bagbin, maybe one or two of the NPP MPs may have voted for Bagbin,” he said. According to Mr. Ben Ephson, Alban Bagbin based on his personality qualifies as the right person for the job of Speaker of Ghana’s 8th Parliament. The race to find Ghana’s 8th Speaker of Parliament went through a long night beginning from midnight of Wednesday, January 7, 2021 and ended around 9:00 am Thursday, January 7, 2021, in a process which would have ordinarily lasted a few hours before the break of dawn. The process was characterized by several incidences of chaos and disagreements between the New Patriotic Party side and the National Democratic Congress side of the house. Mr Bagbin was eventually declared the winner of the race after votes were eventually counted in yet another chaotic manner that lasted for hours. The New Speaker following his successful election was sworn in by the Chief Justice and subsequently took his position to swear in members of the 8th Parliament of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
