Are you waiting for the E-levy killer tax to build the airport?—Navrongo MP to Upper East Regional Minister

Navrongo Central Constituency Member of Parliament Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has extended another interesting question to the Upper East Regional Mr. Yakubu Stephen. Apexnewsgh.com report The Navrongo Central legislator who had already registered some level of displeasure following the controversies and delay witnessed sofar in the much touted Upper East Regional airport from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC MP is asking the Upper East Regional Minister ‘weather he is waiting for the E-levy killer tax to build the airport?’. However, Mr. Tangombu Chiragia has thrown a challenge to the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu to make himself available for a solid debate on what development they claimed the NPP government has provided for the region for the past 5 years. “Let him know am prepared to debate him. If he is a man who claimed there are development projects in the region, I will let everyone understand there was none in the region. I am ready to debate him. He should tell me the project government is bringing to the region and what they have done for the 5 years. “He shouldn’t be talking about the Tono Dam, the NDC started it. They should tell us the whole region. The Pwalungu Multi-purpose dam is lying down there, not even a wheelbarrow is there. We don’t know where the contractor is. So, is not about talking, is about what to do. He concluded However, the Member of Parliament is patiently waiting to engage the Upper East Regional Minister in what he described as developmental debate. Tell us why no single person from Upper East is a cabinet Minister—Navrongo MP

The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Constituency Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has questioned the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu why out of 19 to 21 cabinet Ministers in Akufo-Addo’s administration no single person is representing the people of Upper East –Apexnewsgh.com Report According to Mr. Tangombu Chiragia: “This clearly shows that his none performing President who does not see Upper East Region as part of Ghana”. His question came after the regional minister had responded to his position on the 2022 budget where he complained that the budget could not even capture the controversial Upper East airport, which he believes is inconveniencing the people of the region and more especially he as a parliamentarian who always love to travel home every weekend. According to the Regional Minister in his response: “If an MP is in Accra, saying he wants to come home every weekend to see his constituents but because there is no airport he cannot come, I don’t think we should even vote for such Member of Parliament. However, the response by the Upper East Regional Minister has triggered the Navrongo Central Constituency legislator to throw another heavy wet question to the father of the region. “Why is it that we have almost 19 to 21 cabinet ministers and we have 16 regions, why is it that Upper East Region is not having even a cabinet minister? We don’t have a cabinet minister in Nana Addo’s government and he doesn’t regard us”. Navrongo MP asked “So, for that matter, who is going to carry issues across? He is the Regional Minister, his constituency is the region, my constituency is Navrongo Central, and his party is in power, and is their responsibility to do something for us, and he should not be dodging his responsibilities. “The last time, that was the same mistake he made, he said there were going to be airport located where? NO, he talked about the aerodrome which he said going to in Navrongo, that one is already known. What we are saying is that, before you can talk about the airport, where are you locating it? Where are you building it? You have not made the land preparation and you have 3 years to go and you are telling us you are going to get two airports when? We need the airport now. He insisted “Not about me coming home, I come home alright but what am saying is that I have business in Accra and definitely, I will close some times and run into the night. I can come and land in Tamale sometime with the last flight. If there were to be an airport in Upper East Region when i land i can even take a bicycle and go”. He explained “But here is the situation, how can you land in Tamale around 6:30 to 7:00 Pm then drive 3 to 4 hours before you get home? Then, that’s even better. When you are going back to Parliament and you want to go with last flight and you are leaving Upper East, it means you have to leave home around 4:00 Pm and if you are not lucky and get a breakdown on the road, what do you do? He shouldn’t run away from his responsibility. He knows very well I don’t have access to his Oldman who is there wasting our time, even he himself doesn’t have access to his old because he goes there, he can only talk to the Chief of Staff and comeback. He is not even regarded, he is only here to represent something. If he claimed he is a darling boy to the President he should make him a cabinet minister so that he can talk for Upper East. “Upper East is the only region we have, no one should be joking with the region that is our country and our capital, we come from there and we can never change”. “He should lead a legacy so that tomorrow, he can say he was a minister he was able to bring us airport. We don’t care where the airport is located, they can send it to Fumbisi, and they can send it to even Pwalungu it doesn’t matter anymore. Go deeper, if not you might think there is nothing for your constituency or your district in the budget—Abdulai Abanga told 2022 budget critics

The Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency of the Upper East Region Abanga Abdulai has challenged opposition critics who claimed the 2022 budget didn’t capture any reasonable thing for the Upper East Region, to go deeper into the budget. Apexnewsgh.com report “If you don’t go deeper in the budget, you might think there is nothing for your constituency or your district but that is not the case. You need to go into the details of the budget”. Speaking to Apexnewsgh.com in an exclusive interview on Thursday, December 9, 2021, Mr. Abanga said, one critical or far-reaching policy he saw in the budget that is goodies for his people in Binduri and Upper East Region at large is the ‘YouStart’ which he thinks will inure to the benefit of the youth in the region. However, he also pointed that the Pwalungu Multi-Purpose dam which he personally described as a game-changer for the people of Upper East was captured in the 2022 budget and funds were allocated for the project. “One critical or far-reaching policy I have seen in the budget that contains goodies for our people is this youth employment solution that has been provided in the budget the ‘YouStart’. This is an initiative the government intends to support over one million youth to be able to set up their own businesses either as individuals, SMEs or groups. What is happening in Upper East currently, is a national problem and our problem is that we have young people who are looking for jobs and they can’t find jobs. So, what we need to do, is to position ourselves well as leadership to get our people ready to take advantage of this policy”. He said Responding to the controversial E-Levy, he said the only way nations across the world could survive is through taxing. “That only way every country across the world survived their economy. In fact, even if the government goes to borrow and come and construct infrastructure, it is the same taxes that the government will collect from the people and pay back the loans. So, we have to decide, if we want to contribute so that we can get more Feeder roads in various constituencies and districts if we want agenda 111 which Binduri is a beneficiary with some other districts in the region. After the construction, we have to recruit doctors, we have to recruit nurses so that when one is sick and he went to the hospital, there will be some people to take care of your health. The Free Senior High School (FSHS) which district is not benefiting from it? In this budget, is going to be taken care of. Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ), who in the Upper East region, have not benefitted from PFJ? So, E-Levy is a way of raising money to support the roads, the hospitals, FSHS, and so on”. He explained “I would just want to encourage everybody that anytime you drive on the road, anytime you went to the hospital, anytime your child goes to secondary school and he or she is not paying fees, you have to understand that somebody is paying the cost of those things and so, this E-Levy is calling on you to make your contribution towards these social amenities you all enjoy every day. So, you shouldn’t think that you are paying money for nothing in return”. UER: Binduri MP Pledged to follow up with the controversial Upper East Airport

Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency Abdulai Abanga has said, he will seek clarity on the controversial airport meant for the people of Upper East Region. Apexnewsgh.com report His response came after the Navrongo Member of Parliament Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has criticized the government of the day for not considering the people of Upper East in what he described as NPP empty 2022 budget that could not even capture the airport which is one of the very important things for the people of the region. Speaking in an interview with Apexnewsgh.com on Thursday, December 9, 2021, the Binduri legislator who is now known in the region as Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper East said, even though he has not much information about the airport as at the time of this interview, he promised to follow it up. “I will take it up and try and find out what the situation is regarding the setting up of the airport in the region. You are aware that our senior brother late Hon. Kofi Adda, may he rest in perfect peace. They started the airport idea and he worked so hard and really wanted to see the airport fully established but it didn’t happen before his demise”. “It will help all of us in the region and beyond in our transportation especially those of us coming from Upper East. Now we have to land in Tamale, drive 2,3,4 hours before we can get to our various destinations either to Bawku, Navrongo or to Sandema. So, definitely having the airport in any part of the region will give us an advantage and it will help us so much in our duties as MPs, as business people, and for the general public. So, I will also pick it up to find out what the thinking is and the policies with the government regarding that Airport”. He told Apexnewsgh.com However, he was confident that the airport will be constructed once the government has already taken notice of it. Binduri: Assembly Members Elected Presiding Member and Smartly Voted Against President Nominee

The Binduri District of the Upper East Region has failed in the first attempt to confirm the President’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) in the area but succeeded in electing Atilata Ndeogo Salifu as Presiding Member Apexnewsgh.com reports Mr. Ayinga Abagre Yakubu the incumbent DCE for the Binduri District Assembly is one of the former appointees from the first Akufo-Addo’s administration who enjoys a re-nomination from President in his current MMDCEs nominees in the region. However, before the unsuccessful confirmation of the DCE, the Assembly deem it necessary to elect a Presiding Member to stir the affair of the Assembly. But unfortunately, that process became a success after 3 good attempts by the Assembly Members which consumed about 7hours of people’s precious time. The Presiding Member-elect for the Atilata Ndeogo Salifu after the election, used the platform to apologize to everyone present for the unfortunate delay and frustrations witnessed during the process, as he extends his gratitude to all and sundry for supporting his candidate as the Presiding Member for the Binduri District. He further promised to cooperate accordingly with the District Chief Executive (DCE) if confirmed and his colleague’s assembly members for the development of the district. Ironically, when the opportunity came for the confirmation of the President’s nominee Ayinga Abagre Yakubu who happened to be the incumbent DCE in the area, both the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu and the Member of Parliament for the Binduri Abanga Abdulai was given an opportunity to give a short speech of conviction to the Assembly Members. However, it appears the plea from the two Binduri Statesmen could not do the magic as expected because the 17 Assembly Members which includes government appointees voted 10 YES and 7 NO which automatically makes it impossible for the President’s nominee to go through.  Per the constitution, the Assembly will reconvene within 10 days for the opportunity to approve or disapprove Mr. Ayinga Abagre Yakubu. President is the coach, he knows the game plan he wants to play, but am available for selection too—Binduri MP

The Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency of the Upper East Region Abanga Abdulai has said, he is available to be selected by the coach if the opportunity comes. Speaking to Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com in an exclusive interview, Mr. Abanga said he is just a Member of Parliament (MP), adding that the President has the power to appoint people. “For an appointment, is normally will be an added advantage but, I went in there to represent the people of Binduri in Parliament and that has been achieved”. “I am just an MP, the President has the power to appoint people, so he is a coach. You know in football, is the coach that does the selection sometimes depending on the kind of game the coach wants to play, he will decide the kind of players he wants to use. I know the President knows me very well, I have been in this party for a long time, I was the MCE for Bawku in 2008 during when we won 2 seats even under the very difficult condition when there was a conflict between the Kusasis and Mamprusis but we manage to win 2 seats out of 3. I have been very active in the party up to date the President knows me, most senior party members know me, they know my contribution to the party”. “But at the end of the day, it all depends on what kind of game plan the President as a coach has to play. So, I am available for selection and am hoping that we can be given an opportunity to really do well.
