In a recent interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of ApexnewsGh, Bismark Ayorogo, the Executive Director at Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA), expressed his concerns regarding the ongoing dispute between the presidency and Parliament over President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to sign the witchcraft bill. Ayorogo believes that the president’s deliberate stalling is aimed at avoiding endorsing the bill before leaving office. Ayorogo expressed his disappointment in the prolonged discussions between the presidency and Parliament and emphasized the need for the president to fulfill his constitutional duty once the bill is passed by Parliament. As the bill directly affects vulnerable groups, Ayorogo argued that any concerns the president may have should be overshadowed by the fact that the bill represents the will of the Ghanaian people, as voiced through their parliamentary representatives. Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Ayorogo stressed that lives should not be lost due to baseless accusations of witchcraft. He criticized individuals who claimed supernatural powers to identify witches and harm innocent people, and reminded President Akufo-Addo, a human rights lawyer, of the need to prioritize such issues. According to Ayorogo, any obstacles or challenges regarding the bill’s legality or constitutionality can be swiftly resolved if the president makes it a priority. Ayorogo highlighted that most witchcraft accusations are made by the elderly, while young and frustrated individuals are either unemployed often engage in acts of violence against vulnerable men and women. He lamented this unfortunate situation, arguing that these unemployed individuals should take responsibility for their own actions rather than blaming the elderly for their misfortunes. In the 21st century, Ayorogo asserted that it is unacceptable for individuals to take the law into their own hands. He noted that existing legislation already prohibits the deprivation of life based solely on witchcraft accusations, unless there is irrefutable proof in a court of law. Ayorogo urged President Akufo-Addo not to delay signing the bill, acknowledging the existence of witchcraft but emphasizing the president’s duty to act before leaving office. NORPRA organizes a mining community sensitization forum for Sherigu community
This trend could result in something dangerous if appropriate measures are not followed to educate both the mining companies and the community members. Ribeiro-Duthie once said, despite the positive contribution of small-scale gold mining to community and national development, it is often associated with violence and a wide range of human rights concerns that cannot be overlooked. Martin Kornberger in 2015 also said, “Poorly regulated small-scale mining activities have impacted negatively on communities and impinge on the rights of workers, women, and children. Some of the above reasons and more have pushed the Executive Director for Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA) Mr. Ayorogo Bismark to organize a community sensitization forum for the people of Sherigu a mining community under the Bolgatanga Municipal in the Upper East Region on the Rights and responsibilities of mining communities under the mineral and mining policies and law of Ghana, ECOWAS, and Africa. Mr. Ayorogo when engaging community members present at the forum said, the main objective of the forum, is to influence responsible mining, equitable sharing of mineral rights with communities, peace, and respect for the promotion of human rights. “Our motivation is that, over the years, you can look at Africa continental level, the ECOWAS level, the national level, wherever there is mining or wherever there are mineral resources, there are always associated challenges”. He pointed out, that mining makes a significant contribution to the development of every community in every country. “You can look at it in terms of employment, in terms of contribution to GDP, in terms of foreign exchange”. However, Mr. Ayorogo insisted that despite all the mining contributions, the other side of mining is a symptom that looks so ugly. Stressing that the forum beyond its objective is seeking to see how they can maximize the benefits of mining and then reduce the challenges associated with it, especially the exploitation of these Mineral resources against residents by the mining companies. “So, once NORPRA is aware in accordance to its mandate to mobilize communities, educate them, create awareness among community members on their rights and responsibilities that are been guaranteed by the Mineral and mining laws we thought it wise that once a company is coming into Sherigu community in the Bolgatanga Municipality, we should come around with the regulatory institutions like the Mineral Commission, EPA, Land Commission, Forestry Commission and all the other regulatory institutions with the Municipal Assembly”. Mr. Ayorogo explained Meanwhile, responding to some of the questions asked by community members during the forum about the activities of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in mining communities, an official of EPA present Mr. Agbenyeke Godfred Yao explained, “Once a company or group of individuals come to acquire its documents, they are permitted by the agency to do their work. The agency only comes in when there are challenges with regards to pollution of the environment or destruction of the water bodies within the environment”. “That is where we write to the company involved and invite them, if need be we ask them to provide an alternative source of water to the community”. “We are not into giving of concession, we only come in when there are environmental issues that need attention” He explained Alhassan B. Zakariah, Acting Regional Valuer in charge of the land Commission also clarified some issues regarding the mining lease and compensation. Also responding to questions, Mr. Zakariah said: “We must take into account the number of years of the mining lease”. “So, our compensation or our assessment is going to be based on the number of years. So, if the mining lease says that is 5 years, we are going to assess our compensation for 5 years. After 5 years, if they renew their mining lease then, you renegotiate. It is not a one-time compensation” He stressed Mr. Zakariah further explained that “It is only when land is acquired compulsorily by the government for a project that will inure to the benefit of the Ghanaian people that is where the government pays compensation wholly and takes over the land. But when it comes to mining, it is a lease that is given, and the assessment of compensation is done based on the number of years that is inserted in the mining lease. So, if is for 5 years, we do an assessment of compensation for deprivation of land use. According to him, the assessment also includes crops, economic trees, and building structures. He says they assess them based on the period of the mining lease. Once the lease is expired and later renewed, there is a need for renegotiation of compensation. He explained The Bolgatanga District Officer of the Mineral Commission Mr. Achindiba Dickson when responding to questions regarding the rights of a prospecting company says: “Prospecting license allows a company to trench, it allows them to drill, it allows them to be able to take samples. But any destruction caused in the process by the company, victim, or victims of the affected destruction must be compensated. He further explained that when it comes to mining leases, prospecting is 3 years subject to renewal, Small scale mining has 5 years subject to renewal but for large scale, it has 15 to 30 years lease depending on the amount of deposit. He said any mining company that entered a community for mining has to get an office to enable them to carry out their activity. It doesn’t matter where the office is situated, it could be in the community or outside the community. Mr. Achindiba stated Meanwhile, when addressing members of the Sherigu community and its surroundings at the community sensitization forum, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Rex Asanga maintained that one of the surest ways that all actors-communities, mining companies, and government can reap the full benefits of these natural resources is for all to act and conduct themselves responsibly and unconditionally respect the policies and laws that regulate the mining sector. According to him, the mining policies and
UER: Take advantage of Akufo-Addo’s visit to the region to fight for Devpt-Bismark Ayorogo to UER Chiefs
The Executive Director for Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA), Bismark Adongo Ayorogo has advised the Chiefs in the Upper East Region to take advantage of President Akufo-Addo’s visit to the region on Thursday, August 4, 2022, to address some developmental challenge facing the region. Apexnewsgh.com report Mr. Ayorogo made the pledge during an exclusive interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com on Tuesday. He said: “Chiefs are supposed to be our fathers in our various communities and chieftaincy institutions command a lot of respect locally, nationally, and internationally. And they have a compelling voice but regrettably some of them, though the institution itself is not a political institution, the individuals there seem to prioritize partisan politics to the neglect of their own people”. He added: “So, we as their subjects, we as their followers can use this opportunity to appeal to them to prioritize the development of the region first by coming together and raising critical voice on some of the strategic development projects that are eluding us. According to him, almost all regions in the country have an airport, but the people of the Upper East still don’t have and is just because the politician is taking undue advantage of their divided front and lack of humility toward the people. “Can you imagine what the President will do if all the chiefs say, look Mr. President our region is even a distance to the national capital than most of the regions you have given airports? We need one now whether is in Bolga or Navrongo we need one now, it will work. If our chiefs in unity say, Mr. President this your industrialization is fantastic but we as a region, we want to see smoke in the air at the Pawlugu tomato factory, so that all our farmers from the region will be able to produce tomato and feed and even to make it a multi-vegetable factory, So that in the raining season when tomatoes are not even produced they can produce other crops such as yellow melon, watermelon and other vegetables to feed the country, it will be done”. He believes “If over 50 years ago, the leadership of this country thought that it was good to build factories like tomato and meat factories, is it today that is not relevant? Is it today that our growing population is not relevant? We are not united, they leave it to in the hands of youth groups and civil society and mostly CSOs are looking for what the donor is saying, is the donor interested in LGBTQI or Gender-based Violence because they think that is where money is. But the key strategic thing that will unlock the development potential of this region they are swept under the carpet”. He laments He said the pawlugu multipurpose dam which was touted as one of the biggest public investments in northern Ghana has not received any serious attention from the government “Just look at the biggest public investment in the word of government in northern Ghana been the pwalugu multi-purpose dam which was given 50 months period for it to complete, what is there? I can tell you on authority that all the workers have packed and gone”. “I understand President is going round talking about Agenda 111? Just go to any medical stores in the Upper East here, no single paracetamol. That is why when you go to the hospital these days, is just because you want to meet the doctor and go to a pharmacist nothing more. One would go to the hospital with offering you any medication, they are likely to bill you for no medication given”. laments Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Only solution to cause Prez Akufo-Addo resignation, is to mobilize ….Bismark Ayorogo
The Executive Director for Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA), Bismark Adongo Ayorogo has said, the only solution left for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to resign from office, is to mobilize the over 30 million suffering Ghanaians to the Jubilee house. Mr. Ayorogo who was sharing his expectation with Apexnewgh.com said, in 2016 unemployment rate in Ghana was 5.3 to 5.4% but today, the unemployment rate has increased to 13.5%. He said, “nobody should waste his or her time thinking that things will get better under the leadership of Nana Addo. He has milked the cow and finished milking and now nothing is coming and he is still milking the cow”. However, Mr. Ayorogo believes the only solution left is to mobilize over 30 million Ghanaians including Persons with Disability to the Jubilee house to cry their heart out. “Maybe we as Ghanaians should always mobilize and go to the Jubilee house, he few that are ruling us, they are not even up to 200,000 but if the over 30 million of us will mobilize with women and children at their back, with Persons with Disability, we gather and go kneel at Jubilee house and cry 24/7. Maybe that is the only thing that can move this man out of the place”. Meanwhile, He also believes that there are credible hands to lead the country of Ghana successfully. “I just think that there are people in Ghana with fine brains perhaps some are even in the NPP that can lead this country, the country deserves better, we can’t continue like this”. People of Upper East Region enemies of development, reasons why Upper West is ahead
:Written By Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Upper East is region blessed with wonderful places especially with lots of tourist attraction areas such as Paga crocodile pond, tono dam, pikworo slave camp, Upper east regional museum, tongo hill etc. But there is no doubt, is a region deprived of important developmental and social amenities such as Regional Airport, Regional Sports Stadium, Regional Hospital, Regional Passport Office, just to mention but few. It is becoming so worrying to its patriotic citizens who actually have started asking about the crime they have committed by voting and as well making recommendations for appointments for politicians from the region who will end up disappointing them by not using their positions and office to secure good developmental projects for the region they represent. According to the people of Upper East, a region that had the opportunity of having their own flesh and blood as the Ghana Minister for Youth and Sports under the NDC John Dramani Mahama administration, isn’t supposed to be crying for none availability of a Regional Sports Stadium in 2021, especially when such a big opportunity was missed by their own selves. Meanwhile, Upper West got their stadium with 5,000 capacity in 2006. And yet, just like ‘eve’ in the bible was created from the ribs of ‘Adam’ so was Upper West created from the ribs of Upper East. A region that had their own flesh and blood as the Ghana Aviation Minister during the first batch of President Akufo-Addo/Buwumia administration isn’t supposed to be crying for not having an airport in 2021, especially when such precious opportunity was used to play politics among the same beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the people of Upper West opened their airport for commercial flight operations in October 15, 2019 with service by Africa World Airlines from Accra via Tamale using an Embraer 145 regional jet. And yet, just like ‘eve’ in the bible was created from the ribs of ‘Adam’ so was Upper West created from the ribs of Upper East. As at the time of this publication, the people Upper East still risk their lives on a daily basis traveling to Tamale the Northern regional capital for their passport application and renewal. Meanwhile, the people of the Upper West Region commissioned their Passport Application Center (PAC) in 2020. This bringing the number of Passport Application Centers across the country to 13. And yet, just like ‘eve’ in the bible was created from the ribs of ‘Adam’ so was Upper West created from the ribs of Upper East. The Upper East Regional Hospital unlike other regions has become a political ring tone for the two main political parties NDC/NPP every election year. You will be amazed when listening to party communicators from both parties arguing on whose party contributed more than each other at the ongoing renovation work at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. Meanwhile, 160-bed capacity Upper West Regional Hospital was made open to the general public in January 9, 2020, even after a little delay. Because President Akufo Addo earlier commissioned the US$ 52 million facility in August 2019. And yet, just like ‘eve’ in the bible was created from the ribs of ‘Adam’ so was Upper West created from the ribs of Upper East. What could be cause for the Upper East set back on development? Tribalism/Discrimination, political slavery, greed, hatred, self centered, giving positions non patriotic individuals, ethnicity superiority, literacy superiority and above all disunity were all captured as the real cause of Upper East Region set back on development. Those given opportunities must start thinking outside the box: When Mr. B goes into the office and he decides to do the same thing Mr. A was doing before leaving the office then, Mr. B is not thinking ‘OUTSIDE THE BOX’. In the Upper East Region, it appears development from the two main political parties NDC and NPP are not seeing much light of the day due to the spectacle both big parties are putting on for the region and this is a contributing factor affecting development in the region. Those from the region appointed into positions of MMDAs, regional and national must start thinking outside the box as far as development in the region is concerned. What one could describe as ‘political slavery’ is another canker bedeviling the people of the Upper East Region in terms of developmental projects, unlike some other regions such as Upper West where the people cherished development irrespective of the political party one belongs to. For the National Democratic Congress (NDC), their mentality on the ground as far as Upper East Region is also not helping matters when its comes to development. Because their mentality that the people of the Region vote for NDC come rain come shine because Upper East Region is NDC stronghold and whether they campaign or not they will surely win. Such mentality, is not helping the region in terms of development. Below is a typical example. A piece of published evidence which was reported on a local radio station A1 radio somewhere in November 23, 2020 “IF WE DON’T CAMPAIGN IN UPPER EAST, WE WILL STILL WIN – NDC SECRETARY” “The Upper East Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Donatus Akamugre Atanga, has expressed confidence that his party remains solid in the region to secure the endorsement of voters in the upcoming December 7 general elections; even if they don’t campaign in the region. “According to Mr. Akamugre, though the Upper East Region is considered a stronghold of the NDC, their continuous campaign in the region was to show appreciation to the people of the region for their undying support to the party; and not necessarily to canvas for votes”. So, this mentality by a respected Party Regional Secretary, also confirmed why development isn’t coming as expected in the region and why those elected to represent their constituencies and the region decide to sleep on their jobs. After all, whether they brought development or not next election they will come and
As a country, we do not sell application forms to people seeking jobs as DCEs, CEOs and Ministers–Bismark Ayorogo
The Executive Director for the Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NOPRA) Bismark Ayorogo has registered displeasure following the government decision to sell application forms to poor youth seeking for jobs in the country hence, the likes of DCEs, CEOs and Ministers exempted from purchasing voucher Pin code from banks to secure their jobs. Mr. Ayorogo in his Facebook post said “As a country, we do not sell application forms to people seeking jobs as DCEs, CEOs and Ministers but the poor youth must buy a form to look for a job in the security services to serve mother Ghana. Don’t worry, the youth shall take over this country one day to shape their own destiny”. Earlier, Mr. Ayorogo used his Facebook wall to make an appeal to the government to refund all unsuccessful applicants their Ghc 100.00 form fee “An appeal to Government to refund all unsuccessful applicants the amount of the security services application forms to mitigate the unimaginable levels of hardship and frustrations the teeming unemployed youth are currently going through in the country”. He appealed He is hopeful, that the youth shall take over this country one day to shape their own destiny”. They just need Ghc700.00 to survive” Meanwhile, some NABCO beneficiaries who were dissatisfied with the issue of paying 1st and 2nd lady, per their calculation said, a salary of Ghc 21,000 for 1st lady can pay 30 Nabco Personnel’s with an amount of Ghc 700.00 each month Below is the Facebook post: Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications.
