Navrongo: MP vows to fight against the deadly breast cancer disease

The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Constituency, Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia in collaboration with Ghana Health Service (GHS) has initiated a mass breasts cancer screening across the Constituency. Mr. Chiragia who described breast cancer as a silent killer said, the mass screening exercise ongoing across the Navrongo Constituency will help eliminate the deadly disease from his area. “Breast Cancer is a silent killer in our community, and you know the way our ladies are, they try to hide it and before you realized they are gone. And this is because is difficult for our women to expose their breast to men”. “So, when I realized the cancer is secretly killing our people, I decided to organize a breast cancer screening across the constituency for them”. “At least from now on, every year, we will try to do something like that. If the awareness is created, the ladies can go to any health center on their own for the screening”. “I lost my niece because of breast cancer somewhere last year and that also created awareness to me that there is something that can easily kill ladies”. Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Untreated poor widow battles cancer for her life (viewers discretion is advised)

As the world celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness in the Month of October, a 52 year old poor widow, Malebna Abanab continues to battle for her life from cancer of the breast infection. Mmalebna is a hardworking woman from Kongo in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region. She detected an abnormal feeling, lumps and thickening and sudden change in size of her right breast in March 2019. According to her, she had no pesewa so she did not bother seeing the doctor. When she could not bear it any longer, some family members took her to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital where they were asked to get themselves prepared to be transferred to Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment. Since then, they could not go back to the hospital since they did not have some money to travel to Tamale. “We were asked to get GHc500.00 ready so that we could take her to Tamale. The little money we also had we used it to pay for tests and other medications. So we didn’t have money again.” Her sister in-law narrated. Malebna looked pal, dehydrated and weak as at the time I visited her. She could not explain the pain she is going through in this condition without crying. Part of the breast has been chopped off, with some discharge dropping from the leftover breast. The family resorted to local medicine to keep away the flies. When I recently spoke to them on the condition of Malebna, they told me they contacted a herbalist who came to perform some rituals but there isn’t any improvement. A relative of Malebna, Sapambil Joel said “it happened around May in 2019 and it has been terrible for her. The whole compound always smelling, because flies were always on it. They are talking about taking her to hospital at Tamale and we don’t think we can afford the bills when we go there. That’s why she is still at home. So we would be grateful if anybody can help us to save her life.” Any individual, group of persons, or organizations that want to extend some assistance to save poor Malebna’s life can contact us on 0245768733.
