Vice President Bawumia Receives Heartwarming Christmas Gift from Leprosy Survivor

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has described a visit from Priscilla, a four-year-old leprosy survivor, as his “best Christmas gift. Apexnewsgh reports ” Priscilla, who was cured of leprosy and now walks with a prosthetic leg, visited Dr. Bawumia at his home to express her gratitude. Priscilla’s journey began at the Weija Leprosarium, where she was under the care of Father Andrew Campbell. Abandoned by her parents at birth due to her condition, Priscilla underwent numerous failed treatments for her severely affected legs, ultimately leading to amputation in Ghana. Dr. Bawumia, a patron of Lepers Aid Ghana and regular visitor to the Weija Leprosarium, was moved by Priscilla’s story and sponsored her trip to Italy for specialized treatment. After five months of recovery, Priscilla returned to Ghana, now able to walk independently with her new prosthetic leg. Upon her arrival, Priscilla, accompanied by Father Andrew Campbell and Weija Leprosarium officials, visited Dr. Bawumia’s residence to thank him for his kindness. The Vice President was visibly moved by the visit, taking to social media to share the heartwarming moment. “I got my best Christmas gift yesterday when Priscilla… returned to Ghana and paid me a visit at home to thank me and show that she can now walk with her new leg,” he wrote. “To God be the glory.” Source: Apexnewsgh.com

IMF: NPP man lambast government leadership, questioned whereabout of the men.

One of the controversial outspoken member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Wilson Dabuo, has questioned the whereabout of the men his party claimed they have. Dabuo dissatisfaction resurrected after the official release from the office of the President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through the Information Ministry instructing the Finance Minister to engage with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He said, “I believe the President will at this time show some leadership. Change the team A, as the country awaits the IMF arrival. Not only is there hunger in the country, there’s also a pure sight of anger!” Read his full Meta post below: The Wind of  Change that blew across Ghana in the runner up to the 2016 election was such manifest that the opposition then and now government had the goodwill of the people. Motivated by such goodwill, the citizenry were told thatthey have the men and women to deliver. I dare ask the question,Where are the men and the women? Where are they that we can’t see them at work? If this is the team A, they obviously  have not been satisfactory enough! Or it is only the President that see their respective performance? Like the Black Stars of Ghana, we always blame others for our lack of good  showing. Thus, weBlamed COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war. But never thought for once that the team players are core structures in this whole meltdown. How on earth can a President with a cream of competences around him wish to play certain midfielders when indeed there are obvious injuries? I agree we turn to the IMF but until this team of persons around the Presidency are changed, like the joke of the e-levy, the IMF cannot be a panacea either.I believe the President will at this time show some leadership. Change the team A, as the country awaits the IMF arrival. Not only is there hunger in the country, there’s also a pure sight of anger! Source: apexnewsgh.com

Dr. Bawumia inspect ongoing works on the 9.5km road linking Misio and Wuyima in the Mamprugu Moaduri district

As part of my visit to the North East Region I spent time to inspect ongoing works on the 9.5km road linking Misio and Wuyima in the Mamprugu Moaduri district as well as the 210 meter bridge linking Misio to Wuyima. When completed, this will shorten the three and half hours drive time from Walewale to Yagaba to forty minutes and also make it possible for commuters to travel from Walewale to Wa without going through Bolgatanga. It would also open up the vast agricultural potential of the area. The sub structures of the bridge are complete and as soon as the raining season is over the metal layovers will be latched. This is the first time after independence that any government is attempting to fix this bridge and we are grateful to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for this. The contractor (Ghacos) has done an excellent job. Apexnewsgh.com

I will hand over power to the next Presidential candidate of the NPP in 2024–Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has pledged to hand over power to the next presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections. Apexnewsgh.com report According to President Akufo-Addo, the elephant is determined to break the 8-year cycle in order to sustain the economic growth witnessed under his administration. Meanwhile, addressing party members at the NPP’s delegates conference in Kumasi on Sunday, December 19, he said “I am determined to hand over the baton to the next NPP presidential candidate. “We want to break the 8 not just for ourselves but for Ghana because we know the zigzag, NPP comes to clean for them to be polluted, this is not the way progress will be brought to our country. “We need a secure period in office to make that irreversible change in the fortunes of our nation and we are capable of doing it. We will get a candidate that will unify our party and all of us will campaign to make that candidate the next president of the Republic.” He said President Akufo-Addo advised members of the NPP to embrace internal competition because competitions are part of the political exercise but cautioned the party against unhealthy competition that will hinder the determination of the party to break the 8-year cycle in the next general elections. “Competition, we cannot avoid competition. Competition there will be but let that competition help the party and not hinder the party so that we can break the 8 in 2024.” He advised Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your adverts and credible news publications. 66 percent of Ghanaians in Vulnerable employment–Dr. Duffuor

The former Minister of Finance, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has pointed that employed 66 percent are in vulnerable employment meaning they earn little and their jobs are insecure. Duffuor said, a low rate of formal employment would affect the government’s revenue generation, particularly with taxes. Adding that there is a high incidence of underemployment affecting 21.4% of the employed population. “Among the employed 66 percent are in vulnerable employment meaning they earn little and their jobs are insecure. And about quarter of such people are unpaid family workers while the rest are in self-employment with irregular income susceptible to shocks,” he said Duffuor made these pronouncements when delivering a lecture organized by Institute for Fiscal Studies on the theme: The Ghanaian Dream; Transforming the Economy through Job Creation and Opportunities for all’ held at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra on Monday, 29th November 2021. Duffuor said Ghana’s labor market shows an urgent need for decent high-quality jobs for the growing population in the country. “Not only does unemployment cause poverty but higher crime rates. Children with unemployed parents don’t do well academically. The inability to create good jobs and gain sustainable jobs for the young people will foster the problem of inequality. It’s also an issue of gross economic inefficiency. “Although the officially measured rate of unemployment is about 8.4% as of 2017, and there’s a concern for young people’s access to decent employment. Without a transformation of the current economic structure, employment opportunities will remain limited,” he stated. The proposed 1.75 e-levy could undermine the digital economy laboured by Dr. Bawumia– Dr. Duffuor

Former Finance Minister Kwabena Duffuor has said, the proposed 1.75 percent E-levy in the 2022 budget could undermine the Ghanaian digital economy, which the Vice President has been working on all these years. Speaking at a lecture on the theme: ‘The Ghanaian Dream; Transforming the economy through job creation and opportunities for all’ held at the Tang Palace on Monday, 29 November 2021, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Duffuor said “taxing modes of payment could lead to instantaneous double taxation”. “An electronic transfer usually represents a mode of payment or settlement. And indeed, modes of payment should not attract taxes/levies.” “This is because taxing modes of payment could lead to instantaneous double taxation since the underlying income – the commodity – would have normally been taxed already”. “This makes the proposed E-Levy problematic because it could be fraught with serious implementation challenges”. “This tax could undermine the Ghanaian digital economy, which the Vice President has been working on all these years.” In his view, the government can rather mobilize so much revenue from the extractive industry. “There is so much additional revenue that can be generated from the extractive sector, which is currently being left in the hands of private investors”. “We are not asking for confiscation; we are asking for partnership as it is being done in Botswana and Nigeria.” Dr. Duffuor stressed Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. As for me, I think it should be reduced for ease of calculation–Nana Akomea

The 1.75% E-levy spelled out in the 2022 budget statement by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has generated a whole lot of controversies among the Ghanaian public since after the announcement. According to the government, the budget when approved will cover mobile money transactions, bank transfers, merchant payments, others. Speaking on this matter in a panel discussion on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ monitored by Apexnewsgh.com, a member of the governing party Nana Akomea said “the budget is yet to be approved and discussions are still ongoing…the 1.75% is not cast in stone…it’s possible it can be adjusted, but as for me ‘I think it should be reduced for ease of calculation’.” Meanwhile, he urged the government to be responsible and accountable because “Ghanaians will have no trouble paying any amount; once they know what the monies are being used for”. NAVASCO: Shun acts of vandalism, recklessness and defiance to School authority-Dr. Bawumia to Nabians

Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has admonished students of Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO) campus in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region not to get involved in any act of vandalism. Apexnewsgh.com reports The Vice President Dr. Bawumia offered free advice to the student of NAVASCO as part of his speech to mark the school’s 60th Anniversary celebrations. “You must shun all negative activities and invest your time and energies in acquiring goods of the mind -imagination, knowledge, and creativity- and the development of your capabilities and skills for the future. Acts of vandalism, recklessness and defiance to School authority would not make you a proud NABIA and certainly not a good citizen of Ghana. He advised “Let me also admonish students on the use of mobile phones and the internet. Our digital and educational revolution requires the use of these instruments. But, they must never become inseparable companions and distractions to you. The mobile phone, even though has positives, some students often use them for the negative activities and spend more time on the phone to the detriment of their studies. Let us embrace the technological progress for academic excellence. 197 countries and 44,000 airports worldwide to recognized Ghana Card–Dr. Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana said his government is making efforts to get the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to recognize the Ghana-Card as an e-passport by the first quarter of 2022. According to him, the efforts are to allow the Ghana Card to be read and verified in ICAO compliant countries and enable holders of the card to board flights to 197 countries and 44,000 airports worldwide. Dr. Bawumia added that Ghanaians living outside the country who are holding the Ghana-Card would not obtain visas to travel to the country any longer. “ It is not widely known that the Ghana card is also an electronic passport (e-passport) that contains the biometric information that can be used to authenticate the identity of travelers. We have been working with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) this year to globally activate the e-passport function of the Ghana card and I am happy to announce that on 13th October 2021, Ghana officially became the 79th member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD) community. The ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD) is a central repository for exchanging the information required to authenticate e- passports. “The PKD allows border control authorities to confirm in less than ten seconds that the e-passport was issued by the right authority, has not been altered, and is not a copy or cloned document. Ghana’s Country Signing Certificate Authority would therefore soon be imported into the ICAO PKD System through what is known as a Key ceremony. The Key Ceremony for Ghana will be held at the ICAO headquarters in Montreal Canada hopefully by the 1st quarter of 2022. “This means that the Ghanacard will be recognized as an e-passport and can be read and verified in all ICAO compliant borders (in 197 countries and 44,000 airports in the world). When this happens, holders of the Ghana card will be allowed to board any flight to Ghana. Furthermore, the good news for diasporan Ghanaians is that when the Ghana Immigration Service is linked to the NIA architecture diasporan Ghanaians who hold the Ghanacard should not have to obtain visas to travel to Ghana. We expect this to be operational by the end of the first quarter of next year. Ghana is one of the few countries in the world where the national ID card is also an e-passport. “The Ghanacard is also being linked with existing passports so that travel history will be preserved. The Ghana card is already valid for travel to all ECOWAS countries. I should note that the national ID project was executed by the NIA in collaboration with a world-class Ghanaian private sector firm, (IMS) Margins. So proud of them.” Dr. told Ghanaians during the digitization lecture on Tuesday 2, November, 2021.
