“There is no way any student should be turned away from school” — Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum Ghana’s Minister for Education, has advised the Heads of schools that performed below 0-10 percent pass rate to put together intervention programmes in order to make students who pass through such schools find opportunities for further studies than becoming a liability to the society and their parents because of their inability to pass their examinations. Addressing the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and Principals of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institutions at a meeting in the Ashanti Regional Capital, Kumasi on Saturday, 11 March 2023. The Education Minister admonished CHASS and Principals of TVET institutions of such schools, to improve the standards of the schools or risk having them shut down. According to the Minister, closing down the schools, will save government from incurring huge losses with the existence of such schools. He explained that, the students who will be affected by the closure of such schools will be reallocated to schools nearby to enable them continue their education. The Minister also commended the heads of schools for their various roles in helping transform education in the country, while encouraging them to work hard to ensure the right results are achieved. He further cautioned the heads of schools against preventing first year students from beginning their studies due to their inability to procure all items on their prospectus. “There is no way any student should be turned away from school because the parents have not been able to procure some items on the school’s prospectus. “At least, let them come to the school and the rest could be procured with some time,” the Minister cautioned. The purpose of the meeting, which is held annually was to discuss the current state of the country’s educational system, new developments in the country’s educational system and the issues affecting them. UER: Teachers described missing yellow signal on our traffic as a confusing trend for children–VIDEO

Some nursery school teachers in the Upper East Region have registered some level of dissatisfaction over the missing ‘yellow signal’ on the traffic light in recent times. Over the years, children in kindergarten and nursery schools have been taught some traffic rules and regulations by way of singing. The popular song for our children is “If you see a traffic light there is something you must know, red means stop, yellow means get ready, green means go go go and go. Is no longer the way it was taught because the yellow signal is seriously missing in the modern traffic light available in most regions across the country. Some of the teachers who spoke to Apexnewsgh.com described the current experience as confusing and worrying. “This one is a problem because the yellow signal would alert you to get ready. So, as there is no yellow signal, we that are used to the yellow signal will be confused. especially when it’s time for you to get ready and you are still there, you might crash with someone”. The lamented This incident has generated some arguments between a lovely daughter and her father when they were caught up in the traffic light. The little girl as they stopped at the traffic light, started singing when the traffic signal was on ‘red’, as brilliant she was, she was patiently waiting for the traffic light to change to a yellow signal but unfortunately, the ‘green light’ appeared and she quickly asked the father whether the traffic light is faulty because she expected the yellow signal light which in the actual sense means ‘get ready’ but unfortunately the green signal rather appeared. The father said, as at that time, he was short of words and didn’t know what response to give to his daughter but only resorted by telling her is a modern traffic light.   But, did that change the situation or even the girl mentality about the confusing trend? Are the manufacturers of these current traffic lights telling us that the yellow signal which normally allows people to get themselves ready for the green signal is no longer relevant? UE NAGRAT Threatens Strike Action Over Govt Adamant on COLA

The Upper East Regional Chapter of the National Association Of Graduate Teachers(NAGRAT) led by it’s regional president Akunzebe John has threatened to embark on a strike action should the government fail to grant their request for twenty(20%)cost of living allowance(COLA) which they think will help mitigate the mass suffering of the Ghanaian worker. Mr. Akunzebe John who addressed the press at the regional secretariat of NAGRAT in Bolgatanga said, prices of fuel, goods and services continue to rise day by day and between January to now, fuel has increased by fifty percent(50%) and prices of basic food and other commodities have increased astronomically. The regional President further lamented that price of a bowl of groundnut which was seven cedis(7) was now thirteen cedis(13) and a bowl of beans which was nine cedis(9) has increased to twenty five cedis(25) and the price of lorry fare from Bolgatanga to Accra which used to be one hundred and fifty cedis(150) was now twenty hundred and twenty five cedis(225) and the teacher today lives on the providence of the Lord and not knowing how long this would continue. Mr.Akunzebe said, in the face of this challenges, the Labour unions requested for (COLA) from the government to mitigate this sufferings during this year’s MAY DAY celebrations which had the president and vice president of Ghana in attendance. He said having not heard from government despite the calls the union whose core mandate is to promote the welfare of its members it would not sit unconcerned and they had come to their wits end and demand from their national leadership that if by the end of June 2022 their call for COLA is not heeded to they lay down their tools as stated by members of NAGRAT in the Upper East region. Heads of five Senior High Schools to face prosecution

Some heads of five Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Western Region have been referred to the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for prosecution. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), referred the heads of these schools to EOCO for procurement breaches. The schools include Adiembra SHS, Tarkwa SHS, Bozo Kaku, Methodist SHS and St. Augustine’s SHS, Bogoso. Also, a tutor at the Archbishop Porter Girls SHS has been referred to EOCO for the alleged unlawful taking of salaries. Speaking at its sitting on the Auditor General’s 2018 Report in Takoradi, Chairman of the PAC, James Klutse Averdzi noted that the prosecution of the heads of the five schools will serve as a deterrent to others. Mr. Averdzi said: “In the past, we have never referred officials or the individuals for prosecution so it looks like they are taking advantage of that, that it has become an annual ritual, we will only come, the chairman will caution and that will be the end. “So we decided that now if you go against the law we will recommend you for prosecution. So you go to court and defend yourself. If the court thinks that your defense is sufficient or strong enough they will set you free but if your defense is weak then the court will apply the law to ensure that you face the punishment.” Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your  adverts and credible news publications. All governments since 1959 have paid lip service to our educational system–Robert Ajene

A popular country’s finest educationists and statesmen Mr. Robert Ajene has revealed, that all past government since Nkrumah’s time has exhibited nothing but only lip service to the country’s educational system. Apexnewsgh.com report “All past governments since Nkrumah’s time in 1959 have paid lip service to our educational system and stakeholders look like they are not playing a major role to see that we are in the right track in education”. Mr. Ajene also hold a strong view that, teachers unions formed to help shape the educational system have failed to play their role as expected. “We have teachers unions GNAT and so on, I don’t think they are playing their role to see that the colonial educational system which was given to us and later we find out that we were producing white color job. No single individual or organization can convince me with the role they have played right from the beginning of our educational system till today”. “You see, we only try to change names, labels don’t matter. In this case, our educational system is still there but inside there, we keep on changing. He stressed According to the retired Educationist, “since 1954, Ghana has been trying to change the educational system because we found that people who left Universities were not specially trained, so the mere acquisition of a degree meant that you could do anything. And 1957, I heard those who were responsible, we changed the system and we said, there was too much academic thinking, why can’t we blend this with pragmatism? ‘the using of the hands more than brain’ and many schools were changed over the day to secondary schools and most of them are technical school and they are just standing there by name, the technical aspect is not been taught and I can mention a lot of school SECTEC SECTEC SECTEC, if you send your child there, there is no technical aspect to do. “We have heard about all these, what have we done to change? We set up Polytechnic to train middle-level manpower, how many polytechnics succeeded in doing that before they were changed overnight to Universities. People left polytechnic walking on the street without jobs because the training made them unemployable. That is why we have unemployed graduates. He stressed Mr. Ajene made the revelation during an exclusive interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your  adverts and credible news publications. Why should i regret as a teacher, When i have…. —Robert Ajene

One of the country’s finest educationists and statesmen Mr. Robert Ajene has said, he has no regret being a teacher for 36 years. Apexnewsgh.com report Speaking to Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, Mr. Ajene said, during his time as a teacher he was very concerned about his teaching and that keeps him focused on producing countless nationalists across the country which till date he is so proud of. Asking whether he regrets being a teacher? Mr. Ajene said: “I was concerned about my teaching and I produced so many nationalists. Late Aliu Mahama was my student, Edward Mahama and even the former President of the National House of Chief was my student. I produced so many Medical Doctors, if went to medical school, i should have been the only doctor. But I produced so many doctors, I produced so many statesmen, and I have touched the human resource elements of most Ghanaians anywhere in the country. So, why should I regret as a teacher”. Mr. Ajene asked “Today, when they enter into teaching, is just like going to a farm and say, if you have planted ten acres of maize, one acre will get you ten bags and you buy hundred empty bags waiting. That is not the type of teaching we want. They have just started and they haven’t seen anything, they should be patient enough. A teacher today wants a car and they compare themselves to others, don’t compare because someone’s problem would have liked to be a teacher. I have never and will never regret being a teacher”. He stressed “I am not a politician but I have touched the human development of this country more than most politicians, so what is my regret?. These politicians respect me. If I entered Ghanaian Parliament 20, 30 percent or maybe more than that will rise and say this is our teacher and I have been very significantly proud that am a teacher”. However, in 2021, the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament Education Select Committee, Clement Apaak in a separate release said 44,000 teachers out of the 284,000 public basic school teachers left teaching profession in 2021. GES is not a mushroom agency–GES Director replies social media uniform critics

DIRECTOR GENERAL OF GES, PROF. AKWASI OPOKU AMANKWAA WRITES: “I have seen these pictures of some purported GES teachers in a prescribed uniform for work, circulating. GES is not a mushroom agency. It’s the largest Gov’t agency in Ghana. We employ more than half of all Gov’t employees. If we want to introduce uniforms for teachers, we won’t do that through social media and over the weekend. I guess it’s some group of teachers who’ve decided to have a uniform. Or it could even be photoshop. We may have to look for those in the pictures to first find out if indeed they’re teachers and if they’re what’s their motivation for the uniform. In this era of unionized labour GES cannot introduce a uniform for teachers without engaging the teacher unions. Issues relating to who pays, govt or individuals, the fabric, etc. would all have to be discussed. Any national project of this kind may have to be announced and possibly launched OFFICIALLY. Thank you!”. Apexnewsgh.com
