Why THREE big Ghanaian coaches rejected Hearts of Oak

Hearts of Oak are struggling to attract a big-name coach after the unexpected exit of Kosta Papic two weeks ago. GHANASoccernet.com understands Maxwell Konadu, Ibrahim Tanko and Yaw Acheampong has turned down offers to replace the Serbian in the dugout. These three top coaches are concerned about the rampant dismissal of coaches by the club’s board who have come under pressure. The headhunted coaches are not enthused about the club’s signings in the offseason. Also, they dread inference by the board in player selection which was cited as the chief reason for Papic’s exit-but that has been quashed by board member Vincent Sowah Odotei. Konadu has been available since his dismissal by Asante Kotoko and Acheampong also expected to leave Elmina Sharks. Tanko, former Black Stars assistant coach and Black Meteors head coach, has been unattached since returning from the 2019 CAF U23 Cup of Nations in Egypt. In 11 years, the Togbe Afede XIV-led board have fired 22 coaches including Paa Kwesi Fabian and the late Yusif Abubakar. The rest are Nebojsa Vucicevic, Shaibu Tanko, CK Akunnor, Ben Adjei, David Duncan, Mohammed and the late Herbert Addo. Others are Eddie Ansah, Can Vanli, Kenichi Yatsuhashi, Sergio Traguil, Yaw Preko, Henry Wellington and Frank Nuttall just to mention a few. In the interim, stop-coach Samuel Nii Noi seems to be getting the job done with two straight wins (against Ebusua Dwarfs and Liberty Professionals). Next week, the Phobians face perennial rivals Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League derby. Ex-Hearts of Oak coach Kosta Papic responds to allegations of favouritism

Former Hearts of Oak coach Kosta Papic has decided to keep mute over allegations levelled up against him by the club’s top hierarchy.   The Serbian coach after leaving the Hearts of Oak job was accused of favouritism and sowing divisions in his team selection by Board member Dr Nyaho Tamakloe and team captain Fatawu Mohammed. Responding to the allegations levelled up against him, the Serbian coach said, “I’m not going to criticise anybody. To respond to that, I’m just going to move on. Yah, I’m going to take it like that,” . “I don’t want to respond to anybody because the things that have happened between the club, the players and me, are supposed to remain in the club. Not in public. We agreed to resign because of that issue of what I said. “I submitted my resignation, they accepted my resignation and they make me free. I’m not going to respond to what the press say because nobody actually got an interview from me [about the accusations] except you now.” Papic revealed that Black Leopards approached him if he wanted to return to the club, he accepted negotiations started while he was with Hearts of Oak as head coach. “It’s Black Leopards who approached me, I don’t know whether they had seen in the websites or something that there was some small problem in Ghana. They asked me, ‘Do you want to come back?’ I said yes and then we started to talk about that, and we waited for everything to happen in Ghana, and when that happened, I came back, told KickOff.com. Papic resigned on 15 February 2021 stating that he decided to step down as Hearts of Oak coach because of interference in his job by the club’s top hierarchy. He was appointed the technical director of Black Leopard four days time after his resignation.
