Some residents of Mamprusis and Kusasis who went to Mecca for the performance of 2022 Hajj have demanded for a reconciliation between both factions. The fight between the two groups has been in existence over the years and it has caused the death of many and lost of properties from both sides. However, in a peace video sighted by apexnewsgh. com and post by Rabiu Tanko’s Meta platform, personalities from the two factions were seen collectively reciting the Quran, calling for peace and ceased fire on the Bawku conflict. Re: Bawku clash: Police arrest 13 for violating court injunction and curfew

The spokesperson for the family of the 13 arrested Mamprusis Dr. Razak Bawumia Wuni has raised an alarm over what he described as obvious persecution and violation of the fundamental human rights of their kinsmen. According to rejoinder issued by Dr. Bawumia Wuni, the family of the arrested persons wishes to state categorically that today is the 5th day since the individuals were arrested but neither they or their lawyers have been officially informed the charges upon which their kinsmen were arrested and detained. Below is the family statement:  Re: Bawku clash: Police arrest 13 for violating court injunction and curfew Our attention has been drawn to the above news report filed by one Illiasu Tanko and published on Joy News’ online portal on January 3, 2022. The report further cites an unknown senior official of the CID as saying “The court in Bawku had placed an injunction on the performance of the funeral. The injunction was accepted by them [the Mamprusis]. It was signed by Dr Bugri on behalf of the regent only for them to turn around to disregard the court ruling. We found that unacceptable, and that’s why we decided to enforce the law”. We the family of the arrested persons find these remarks by the unknown CID senior officer preposterous and an indictment on the rule of rule. In this regard, we wish to make the following observations: 1. It is absolutely shocking that the police CID claims they “decided to enforce the law” when in actual fact all their actions violate the rule of law. We the family of the arrested persons wish to state categorically that today is the 5th day since they were arrested but neither we nor our lawyers have been officially told the charges upon which our kinsmen were arrested and detained. Indeed, we are scandalized to learn the reason for their arrest from a media publication. Is this the CID’s way of “enforcing the law”? 2. If Indeed the Police CID have such evidence against our Kinsmen, why then have they not hurriedly arraigned them before a court of competent jurisdiction. Today is the 5th day of their arrest and Ghanaians should know that our arrested kinsmen have not been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction. This is in direct contravention of the constitutional provision which mandates suspects to be arraigned before court within 48 hours. We ask again, is this how the law is “enforced” by the CID? Furthermore, this violation by the police is very troubling because they refused to produce the suspects in court after lawyers filed a bail application.  3. We, the family of the arrested, are much more worried at this obvious persecution and violation of the fundamental human rights of our kinsmen because, we have seen how Ghanaians who have been arrested and charged even with treasonable offences are guaranteed their rights and arraigned before court. Why then does the police treat our kinsmen in such a horrible manner under the pretext of “enforcing the law”? 4. We wish to categorically state that the so-called error riddled injunction made in reference by the Police CID was an exparte given on 29th November, 2021. This exparte expired after the 10th day. However, the funeral rites were performed on 26th December, 2021. That is over 26 clear days after the expiration of the error riddled ex-parte injunction. In any case, if the police claim they have a case why then do they not arraign them before court rather than violating the fundamental human rights of our kinsmen? We wish to conclude by urging Ghanaians and the media to condemn in no uncertain terms the violation of the fundamental human rights of these noble Ghanaians under the pretext of “enforcing the law”. Today it is our family members and tomorrow it could be anyone else’s.  Some of the arrested people like Dr. Sam Bugri are patriotic Ghanaians who have served their country faithfully. He was the Director of Public Health and led Ghana to eliminate serious public health challenges like Guinea worm, etc. So even if the state cannot do him any honours, they should not violate his fundamental human rights. This is also same for the elders of the Nayiri. The Nayiri has always been at the forefront helping Government solve critical ethnic conflicts across Ghana and his wise counsel is often sought from Government. Thus, the least show of respect for him is to treat his arrested elders according to the rule of law and not the violation of their fundamental human rights.  Thank you SIGNED Dr. Razak Bawumia Wuni (0244597115) Spokesperson Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Give peace a chance, we are peace-loving people Kusaug Youth Movement to ……..

Kusaug Youth Movement has described themselves as law-abiding citizens and peace-loving people in response to the earlier press conference by a group known as Mamprusi Youth of Bawku. Members of the Kusaug Youth Movement made this known in a press conference organized in the Upper East Regional capital Bolgatanga on Monday, November 29, 2021. However, the group in their press conference also extended a call to their Mamprusi Youth brothers to give peace a chance. Below is the full press conference: RESPONSE OF KUSAUG YOUTH MOVEMENT TO THE BAWKU MAMPRUSI YOUTH ASSOCIATION Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, we welcome you to this press conference to address some inaccuracies in statements made by a group of Mamprusi Youth of Bawku. Ladies and Gentlemen, we would have ignored the said presser. But our brothers from the Mamprusi Youth of Bawku spewed a lot of lies which if not corrected will mislead the general public and peace-loving Ghanaians. We thus wish to set the records straight and to inform you on recent happenings in Bawku. In their presser, our Mamprusi compatriots alleged that the Upper East and North East Regional Ministers visited the Nayiri and sought permission to extend the performance of the funeral of Late Tampuri Zangbego Turiba. Ladies and Gentlemen, this was a twisted story and a grand scheme fashioned to sabotage the efforts of two gentlemen in their resolve to get a solution to the Bawku impasse. Able men of the Media, does it not baffle you that someone died about 40 years ago and his funeral is to be performed now? In fact, the late Tampuri Zangbego Turiba whose purported funeral the Mamprusis attempted performing didn’t die as a chief but as a commoner. He was dethroned before he died and a series of Islamic funeral rites were duly performed. The Mamprusis in Bawku are destructive and so because they have nothing to lose since they do not come from Bawku. This explains why they have always taken arms rather than dialogue or pursues the law courts. Besides, their ill ambitions have always led them to accuse well-meaning individuals including their kinsmen otherwise, how could the North East Regional Minister, who is a known Mamprusi conspire with Hon. Stephen Yakubu to favour other tribes? We are at lost wits to understand their accusation that the Upper East Minister is varying the implementation of the impending curfew. The imposition of the current curfew is on Bawku Municipality and its environs. This implies that communities in the Pusiga, Garu, Binduri, and Zebilla District Assemblies are excluded since they do not belong to the Bawku Municipal Assembly. Does excluding these districts suggest the Minister is biased or discriminatory? If so, then they should blame the Interior Minister and not the innocent Upper East Regional Minister who is simply implementing what has been imposed by way of curfew. Perhaps, they do not understand that Bawku Municipality is different from Pusiga, Garu, Binduri, and Zebilla District Assemblies. To this end, we unconditionally forgive them for their inability to grasp the Queen’s language in the use of ‘Bawku Municipality and its environs’. For clarity, ‘Bawku Municipality and its environs’ as contained in the imposition document means communities or suburbs around Bawku in which the movements, activities, actions and inactions of people within those areas (environs) are likely to disrupt the order or implementation of the curfew. The communities outside the jurisdiction of Bawku Municipality are thus legally exempted from the enforcement of the curfew regulation. Therefore, accusing the Upper East Regional Minister of bias and favoring Kusasis is baseless and mischievous. The unfortunate happenings in Bawku now are because of their arrogance, deceit, and empty pride. Our Mamprusis brothers must come to appreciate that Bawku will never come under any form of colonization as was the case in the past. We are aware that the Bawku Mamprusis are riding on the shoulders of individuals close to the corridors of power. We are not naive of the political maneuverings, the hate game, and the grand scheme manufactured to dislodge the current Upper East Regional Minister. This is so because one of them strongly lobbied for the Upper East Regional Minister’s post but lost due to incompetence. We, including all peace loving Ghanaians, are fed up with these awkward accusations and activities by the Mamprusis in Bawku that send Bawku backward. The Bawku Mamprusis are not the only people in the northern territory and must realize that it takes two to tango. In the light of these and many more accusations, we wish to advise the Mamprusis Youth of Bawku to swallow their pride and avoid accusing well-meaning Ghanaians including Hon. Stephen Yakubu, Hon. Lawyer Dendiok Kpemka, Hon. Aludiba Hannan and the Upper East Regional Coordinating Director, as mentioned in their misleading presser. We thus urge the Mamprusi Youth in Bawku to dance to their own mischievous tunes. They created them and must dance alone and suffer alone. They should not now attempt to draw others into their mess. We are therefore calling on the President of the Republic, H.E.  Akuffo Addo, and all well-meaning Ghanaians to ignore their presser. Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, Kusasis are law-abiding citizens and peace-loving people and we wish to urge all Ghanaians to support our peace efforts. We again call on our Mamprusi Youth to give peace a chance. Long live Ghana Long live Upper East Region Long live Kusaug ABUGRI A.
