• Manasseh Azure has condemned former President Mahama’s ‘do or die’ comment • According to him, Mr Mahama does not need violence to win the 2024 elections • He says the NDC in 2016 and 2020 were careless in collating their results and has asked the party to change Investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has described the National Democratic Congress as being careless in the collation results it obtained in the 2016 and 2020 general elections. Former President Mahama in a recent interview stated that the NDC will consider the 2024 election to ‘be a do or die affair’ in terms of the protection of the ballot and the collating of results. The outspoken journalist in a strongly worded but ‘friendly’ letter reacting tto the former President’s comment, has, however, said that Mr Mahama and his party should rather focus on putting up a more robust and effective system in collating results as the party had been careless in that regard in previous elections. “John Mahama, you don’t need violence to win the next election. You and the NDC only need to be told the bitter truth. The NDC was careless (if not stupid) in the 2016 and 2020 elections. You could not account for your votes. When you said you were in a comfortable lead in 2016, you had no idea what you were talking about. When you said you were leading in the parliamentary majority in 2020, you did not have concrete figures besides what you heard in the media.” He added, “When you were going to court to challenge the 2020 results, you could not account for a chunk of your declaration forms. In effect, if you were cheated, you wouldn’t know. How did you expect to win the 2020 election petition when you went there empty-handed and expected to use evidence from the one you accused of cheating you to succeed? Our elders say a man cannot catch a witch with empty hands no matter how physically strong he is.” To Azure, for the NDC to have failed to successfully to collate their own results in the two consecutive elections was unacceptable. “Our elders say it is only a fool whose testicles are trampled upon twice. If you don’t admit your failures and act, your precious balls will be trampled upon thrice,” he stated in his letter to the former President which he has shared on his Facebook page. While advising Mr Mahama and the NDC to change their ways, Manasseh, who stated that the former President stood a better chance in winning the 2024 elections than previous elections in 2016 and 2020, outlined various reasons why he finds the recent comment by the former President in a bad taste. He said despite efforts by Mr Mahama to defend his statement as not denoting violence, the statement in the understanding of the average political party fanatic equals a war chant. “I heard you explain that what you said was an idiomatic expression. You’re a communicator, and I know you are well aware that the words we speak have denotative and connotative meanings. To the average angry and desperate party fanatic on election day, a “do-or-die” charge at the polling station is a vague and deadly war chant. Your idiomatic expression could be heard as an idiotic expression and translated into violence,” he noted. Among other things, Manasseh argued that the statement made by Mr Mahama goes contrary to his personality for which reason the former President must take a retrospective look at his statement. “Mr. John Mahama, don’t change who you are because you want to win the next election. It might prove counter-productive to your cause. I still have a vague idea about the concept of comparative advantage from my high school Economics lessons. That’s why as one of your fiercest critics, I remain one of your staunchest supporters when mention is made of your love for tolerance and tolerance. Don’t blow away your unique selling proposition to the discerning Ghanaian voter with these needless utterances,” he wrote. Government ‘stealing our money and giving it to Zoomlion’ – Manasseh Azure alleges
Following a report by the Auditor-General that indicted Zoomlion Ghana for taking monies despite not executing their tasks, investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni is alleging that government is colluding with Jospong Ghana which is the parent company of Zoomlion Ghana to fleece the country. In a Facebook post, Manasseh Azure claimed that Jospong Group of Companies have consistently been featured in audit reports as having caused one infraction or the other. As far he is concerned, government is in bed with the company and that the figures revealed by the Auditor-General is a tip of the actual monies which are being paid to the company by government. Manasseh criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for not honoring his promise of stopping deals that benefits a private citizen at the expense of the country. Manasseh further quizzed if President Akufo-Addo”s u-turn on the matter is indication of him personally benefitting from what he considers to be the looting of the public purse by Jospong Group of Companies. “The Auditor General’s report has once again revealed that the government (from the Office of the President to the district assemblies) is stealing our money and giving it to Zoomlion and the Jospong Group in the most obscene manner. “But what you see in the Auditor General’s report is a tip of the rotten iceberg of deals between the government and the Jospong Group. “In 2016, Nana Akufo-Addo promised to stop this kind of thievery. That’s why some of us fell for him. In November 2016, he and the NPP said John Mahama could not stop such shady deals with Jospong because he was benefitting directly from them. “At this stage, is it not fair to ask if Nana Akufo-Addo is benefitting directly from the rot? Or, what has changed, Mr. President?” The 2020 Auditor-General report captured Zoomlion Ghana as receiving GHC3,801,530 from the administrator of the District Assembly Common for fumigation services in 38 assemblies in 2018. The report indicated that at the time, the monies were being paid to the company, it had not done any work. The company has meanwhile denied the allegations, stressing that it received no such funds. —Ghanaweb Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. You don’t tax more to help mend the economy – Manasseh Azure
Ace Broadcast Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni has reacted to portions of the 2021 budget as delivered by Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu on Friday, January 12, 2021. Osei-Kyei Mensah presented the budget on behalf of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta who is currently receiving medical attention in the United States. As part of the presentation, he introduced some new taxes and levies are aimed at helping to recover the economy which government says has been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. These levies and taxes include the COVID-19 Health Levy, Road Toll increases, Gaming Tax, Sanitation and pollution Levy(Bola Tax), 1% Increase in NHIL, 1% increase in Vat flat rate, ESLA increase, and the financial sector clean up Levy 5%. Though tax reliefs were granted for commercial vehicles as part of measures to reduce the cost of transportation and in areas like the arts and entertainment institutions, hotels, restaurants and travel and tours, many have still reacted to the move. For them, it is inappropriate to introduced taxes particularly at a time like this, when the economy is recovering from the harsh impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Minority Leader, Haruna Idrissu for instance, described the move as insensitive, whilst accusing the government of mismanaging the economy. In a tweet, Manasseh Azure also added his voice; “When the economy is shrinking and jobs are lost, you don’t tax more to “help the economy recover,” he said. I Won’t Take Covid-19 Vaccine With Journalists Today – Manasseh Azure Writes
Last night, I received an invitation from an executive of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to come for the Covid-19 vaccination today at the Ghana International Press Centre. I asked further questions and I was told that 800 doses of the vaccine provided to Ghana through the Covax initiative have been allocated to journalists. I was excited about the opportunity. I have never bought into the wild conspiracy theories. I have been looking forward to the opportunity to get vaccinated. And here was one! On second thought, however, I decided to decline the invitation so I communicated it to the GJA executive and gave my reason. I’m relatively young and do not have any known underlying health condition. I know many active or retired journalists are old. I also know journalists who are young but have underlying health conditions that make them more susceptible to the vagaries of Covid-19. With the limited doses available, I don’t think it is right to go and get the jab while those who need it more than I may not have the opportunity. Ghana has a population of about 30 million. We took delivery of 600,000 doses from the Covax arrangement. And if each person is to get two doses of the vaccine, then it means we will cover 300,000 people. (I stand to be corrected). I’m eager to get this vaccine to protect myself, my family, and those I come into contact with. But I know there are many people out there–in this case, many journalists–who need it more than I. I’ll wait. Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Contact: 0555568093
Anas condemns threats on journalists; demands state protection for Manasseh, others
Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas of Tiger Eye P.I. is asking state authorities and other agencies to ensure that media personnel who continue to receive death threats are given immediate protection. He is also demanding justice for his colleague journalist who was gruesomely murdered in the line of duty. Anas’ call comes in the wake of recent complaints of threats and attacks on some journalists in the country. He particularly mentioned, Manasseh Azure Awuni, Edward Adeti, Afia Pokuaah, Captain Smart, Abdul Hayi Moomen, David Tamakloe among others as some persons whose lives must be protected by security agencies. In a statement, the Tiger Eye P.I boss condemned the attacks describing them as “barbaric and backward” adding that, “it is a terrible thing to practice journalism under conditions such as these, and it is even dangerous when nothing is done, and the perpetrators get to carry out their threats.” He has thus charged government, security forces, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the National Media Commission (NMC) to decisively probe into the incident and ensure that the perpetrators regaled of their social class are arrested made to face the full rigours of the law. “Tiger Eye P.I calls on the government to condemn these threats and careless utterances be it from a lawmaker, a government official or opposition groups in the strongest terms yet. The security agencies must proactively investigate the sources of death threats and arrest the criminals. The security agencies should not be seen or be used to perpetuate any such attacks or intimidation. We appeal to the National Media Commission and Ghana Journalist Association to do more, particularly in engaging political parties and journalists who pursue public interest journalism”, the statement added. While solidarizing with his affected media colleagues, Anas also recounted the death of his former team member, Ahmed Suale and maintained that never again should any journalist be made to suffer such a horrible experience. “The murder of Ahmed Suale is still fresh on the minds of all journalists and sympathisers in this country. No journalist in the country can survive the bullets of their assassins if ever they become targets.” Find below his statement Citinewsroom Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications.
