How do you expect workers to survive when the price of everything has doubled—NAGRAT Boss

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has requested the Tripartite Committee negotiating for a national minimum wage to come out with a wage fixed at the existing inflation rate. Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Joy FM, The National President of NAGRAT, Mr. Angel Carbonu, said everywhere in the world, minimum wages are pegged to inflation rates. “How do you expect workers to survive when the price of everything has doubled in the last couple of months?” he questioned. According to Mr. Carbonu, even the cost of government services has skyrocketed. “So, how are workers expected to survive in the wake of these increments and rising inflation leading to price hikes?” Mr. Carbonu said NAGRAT is demanding a 19 percent increase in the yet-to-be-announced minimum wage to address workers’ challenges during these times. Why should i regret as a teacher, When i have…. —Robert Ajene

One of the country’s finest educationists and statesmen Mr. Robert Ajene has said, he has no regret being a teacher for 36 years. Apexnewsgh.com report Speaking to Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, Mr. Ajene said, during his time as a teacher he was very concerned about his teaching and that keeps him focused on producing countless nationalists across the country which till date he is so proud of. Asking whether he regrets being a teacher? Mr. Ajene said: “I was concerned about my teaching and I produced so many nationalists. Late Aliu Mahama was my student, Edward Mahama and even the former President of the National House of Chief was my student. I produced so many Medical Doctors, if went to medical school, i should have been the only doctor. But I produced so many doctors, I produced so many statesmen, and I have touched the human resource elements of most Ghanaians anywhere in the country. So, why should I regret as a teacher”. Mr. Ajene asked “Today, when they enter into teaching, is just like going to a farm and say, if you have planted ten acres of maize, one acre will get you ten bags and you buy hundred empty bags waiting. That is not the type of teaching we want. They have just started and they haven’t seen anything, they should be patient enough. A teacher today wants a car and they compare themselves to others, don’t compare because someone’s problem would have liked to be a teacher. I have never and will never regret being a teacher”. He stressed “I am not a politician but I have touched the human development of this country more than most politicians, so what is my regret?. These politicians respect me. If I entered Ghanaian Parliament 20, 30 percent or maybe more than that will rise and say this is our teacher and I have been very significantly proud that am a teacher”. However, in 2021, the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament Education Select Committee, Clement Apaak in a separate release said 44,000 teachers out of the 284,000 public basic school teachers left teaching profession in 2021. Just In: Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana to Start Strike on Monday

The Colleges of Education NON-TEACHING STAFF ASSOCIATION OF GHANA are set to embark on an indefinite strike starting from Monday, April 11, 2022, across all the forty-six(46) public colleges of Education in Ghana. Apexnewsgh.com report The President of the association at St. John Bosco’s College of Education Mr. Richard Ane announced the strike action to members of the Association on Friday, April 8, 2022.  He said the Association has concluded to lay down its tools and not to report to work until further notice with the assurance that, members are protected since the strike is legal. According to Mr. Ane, the decision to embark on the strike came as a result of government’s continuous disregard for the following: -Wrong placement of first degree holders, non-payment of migration arrears, exclusion of generic allowances, partial payment of office holding allowances and non-payment of interim market premium arrears. Meanwhile, ApexNewsGh has learned that the decision to embark on this strike was served in January 2022, but could not be carried through due to the intervention of the national labor commission ((NLC). Unfortunately, for some time now, no commitment has been shown by the government as a solution to the concern raised. However, the National President of CENTSAG Frederick Forkuo Yaboah has said, with the exception of the school security, all Members of CENTSAG will from Monday, the 11th of April, 2022 stay away from duty until further notice. Blame Napo for the use of unapproved textbooks in schools – Educationist

An Educationist, Mr Ekow Djan has said former Minister of Education Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh should be held liable for the controversial textbooks disparaging Ewes in the country. According to Mr Djan, the Ministry of Education under the watch of Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, together with its direct agency, the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) headed by then Executive Secretary, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah failed to ensure that textbooks accompanied the newly rolled out curriculum. This, he believed resulted in the use of unapproved textbooks by some teachers. “The Standard Based Curriculum being used in Basic schools were effectively implemented in September, 2019. “One would have thought that, Managers of Ghana’s Education machinery would provide requisite textbooks for pupils and teachers to cushion the smooth running of the new curriculum but unfortunately, government is yet to provide a single textbook,” he said in a statement. He added “It is therefore not surprising to note that Publishers have taken advantage of the porous system to publish inferior textbooks with derogatory and false contents. “Apparently, the Ministry of Education under the watch of Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, together with its direct agency, the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) headed by then Executive Secretary, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah failed woefully to ensure that textbooks accompanied the newly rolled out curriculum. “The content of the Standard Based Curriculum is as problematic as the content of the inferior textbooks being criticized now. The Ghanaian people should take the pain to scrutinize the entire curriculum.  There would be more distasteful revelations other than what we’re criticizing now. If we could remember, Comprehensive Sexual Education which sparked a nationwide agitation is still featured in the Upper Primary English Curriculum. “Again, the Ghanaian history has been distorted while our kids are being made to learn the culture and practices of other countries than ours. “I urge parents, Civil Society Groups and patriotic Ghanaians to join the call for the immediate withdrawal of the entire curriculum. I believe this will save our pupils from being fed with toxic contents in school. “ 3news Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications.
