MTN Ghana Employee Volunteers To Equip Health Centers As Part Of Its 2026 21 Days Of Y’ello Care Campaign

MTN Ghana will officially launch the 2026 edition of 21 Days of Y’ello Care, its flagship employee volunteerism campaign, from June 1 to 21, 2026. This year’s campaign aims to equip various health centres with hospital beds to help address critical healthcare challenges in Ghana. Now in its 19th year, Y’ello Care continues to demonstrate the impact of employee-led action in driving meaningful and sustainable change across the communities we serve. Since its inception, the campaign has mobilised thousands of MTN employees to support initiatives spanning education, healthcare, youth development, and economic empowerment. Over the past six years, the campaign has reached more people through the efforts of MTN employee volunteers, contributing significant hours to community engagement, evolving each year to respond to the most pressing needs in our communities, guided by MTN’s purpose of leading digital solutions that drive Africa’s progress. This year’s theme, “Expand Equitable Health for Every Community,” addresses persistent healthcare access challenges in many parts of Ghana. Despite significant progress, large segments of the population, particularly in rural, remote, and underserved areas, continue to face barriers to essential health services due to distance, cost, limited infrastructure, and shortages of skilled health workers. These gaps disproportionately affect women, children, youth, and vulnerable populations. Y’ello Care 2026 will see MTN staff implement practical, community-led health initiatives aimed at improving access to preventative, primary, and responsive care. These interventions will leverage MTN’s connectivity, digital platforms, and strategic partnerships to help scale healthcare access to underserved communities and strengthen long-term health resilience. Planned activities include the repair of hospital beds, and donation of new beds, community health outreach programmes (WASH), digital health education campaigns, telemedicine-enabled services, public health screening to support the campaign against the rising incidence of non-communicable diseases, and the use of data and digital tools to strengthen the delivery of health services. By focusing on prevention, early detection, digitally enabled healthcare solutions, and community-based care, the campaign aims to expand access to services, strengthen healthcare resilience, and improve health outcomes at scale. Commenting on the upcoming Y’ello Care, Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer said, “Y’ello Care reflects our belief that meaningful progress begins with meeting communities where they are. We are focusing our efforts on expanding access to quality healthcare, particularly in communities where it remains out of reach for many”. “MTN is uniquely positioned to help scale equitable healthcare access across Ghana through the power of connectivity, digital innovation, and strategic partnerships. Through Y’ello Care 2026, we are leveraging these capabilities to help communities access healthcare services that are more inclusive, responsive, and sustainable,” she concluded. In line with MTN’s values, the campaign prioritises collaboration, responsible delivery, and community-led implementation. Through trusted partnerships with governments, NGOs, and local stakeholders, the campaign aims to deliver solutions that are responsive to real needs, respectful of local contexts, and designed for lasting impact. Through Y’ello Care, MTN reaffirms its commitment to enabling inclusive development and strengthening the communities we serve. Source: Apexnewsgh.com

MTN Ghana CEO Fires Back at Data Theft Claims: “There’s Zero Incentive for Us to Do That”

The complaints have been growing louder. Ghanaian subscribers of MTN have taken to social media and public forums in increasing numbers, frustrated by data bundles that seem to vanish faster than they should,  or disappear entirely without explanation. For many, the finger has pointed squarely at the telecom giant itself. Now, MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer has had enough. And he wants the public to know exactly where the company stands. Addressing the controversy on Friday, April 17, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett flatly dismissed allegations that the company is stealing customers’ data. His argument was direct: MTN simply has nothing to gain from it. “There’s zero incentive for MTN to steal data from you. Because it will just chase people away. It’s not something we do; it’s not part of our values,” he said. In his view, any telecom company that manipulated customer data would be signing its own death warrant,  eroding the trust that keeps subscribers on its network and ultimately driving them to competitors. It is, he argued, bad business sense as much as it is a breach of integrity. If MTN is not the culprit, then what is? According to Blewett, the answer lies in how dramatically smartphone usage has changed,  and how little many users understand about what their devices are doing in the background. He pointed to three key drivers of data consumption that often go unnoticed: background activity from mobile applications running silently without the user’s knowledge, automatic updates downloading software in the background, and the growing appetite for high-definition video streaming, which consumes data at a far higher rate than most people realise. Together, these factors, he argued, explain why data appears to drain so quickly,  not fraud, but the realities of modern digital life. Blewett did not stop at defending the company. He turned the spotlight on subscribers as well, urging them to take a more active role in managing their own data consumption. Practical steps, he suggested, include monitoring which applications are running in the background, reviewing app permissions, and adjusting video streaming quality settings to reduce unnecessary data use. “So there’s a lot that we have to do as customers. We have to be very responsible,” he said. It is a message that is unlikely to fully satisfy frustrated subscribers, many of whom remain unconvinced. But for MTN Ghana’s CEO, the position is clear: the company is not the enemy, and understanding how data is consumed in today’s smartphone era is the first step toward resolving the dispute. MTN Group’s Ebenezer Asante Challenges African Graduates To Become Digital Innovators And Change-Makers For The Continent’s Growth

Mr. Ebenezer Asante, Senior Vice President of MTN Group, called for stronger alliances between academia, government, and industry to foster a generation of African innovators prepared to shape the continent’s technological future. He made this address at the 2025 graduation ceremony of Accra Technical University (ATU), themed “Emerging Technologies: How Prepared is the ATU Graduate?” During his speech, Mr. Asante urged young African graduates to take the initiative in shaping the continent’s technological destiny by becoming creators and innovators rather than mere consumers of digital technology. He stated, “The curious, tech-savvy graduate of the 21st century will not only use technology but will also shape it with foresight and a sense of shared human purpose.” Referring to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) 2023 Report, Mr. Asante noted that Africa’s share of global technology patent filings has decreased from 4.4% a decade ago to 3.2% in 2023, despite the continent accounting for over 18% of the world’s population. This statistic highlights the urgent need for improved collaboration among universities, private sector players, investors, and policymakers to boost research, invention, and the industrial application of technology on the continent. “If we are serious about using technology to address Africa’s complex developmental challenges, we must become part of the technology supply chain and the global ecosystem of invention,” he asserted. Drawing inspiration from futurists Alvin Toffler and Professor Akosua Ampofo, Mr. Asante highlighted that Africa’s competitiveness in the digital age will rely on its youth’s ability to keep learning, unlearning, and relearning. He explained that the most successful graduates will be those who combine technical skills with creativity, empathy, and teamwork, traits that foster innovation in the 21st century. He encouraged the ATU graduates to embrace a growth mindset, emphasizing that their success will rely more on their psychological and behavioural flexibility than on their academic qualifications. “Do not fear the unknown. Be clear about what you possess that can make a difference and keep applying yourself until you achieve a breakthrough,” he advised. “Stubborn perseverance is what the world is waiting for from you.” Mr. Asante also emphasized how technology can tackle Africa’s real-world challenges across various sectors, including sanitation, healthcare, agriculture, education, and energy. He highlighted the inspiring work of The Buz Stop Boys, a youth-led initiative addressing urban sanitation in Ghana, as an example of how civic-minded innovation can make a difference. He challenged graduates to use their technical training to develop IoT-enabled waste management systems, smart data-driven city solutions, and even robotics or drone technologies to optimize waste collection and improve urban hygiene. Reflecting on the changing nature of employment, Asante noted that technology has enabled young people to work globally without relocating. He encouraged graduates to seize opportunities in freelancing, digital entrepreneurship, and hybrid work, leveraging platforms powered by AI, cloud computing, and digital payment systems such as Mobile Money (MoMo). In closing, Mr. Asante called on the graduates to actively contribute to advancing Ghana’s national digitalization agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, both of which envision an integrated and prosperous Africa driven by innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability. Stephen Blewett Shares Insights on 5G Technology and ICT Centre at ‘Time with Stephen’ Engagement

In a recent engagement with the media and other stakeholders titled “Time with Stephen,” Stephen Blewett, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, shared his perspectives on the much-anticipated 5G technology and addressed various concerns surrounding its implementation. Blewett emphasized that while 5G is generating excitement, it is just one part of the broader spectrum of wireless technology. He explained that 5G operates on specific radio frequencies, with various spectrums available for different applications—highlighting that there is much more to wireless technology than just the latest upgrade. Reflecting on the evolution of wireless technology, Blewett remarked on the significant transformations that occurred as mobile technology advanced from 2G to 3G. However, he suggested that the upgrades from 4G to 5G, while impactful, may not be as immediately noticeable to users. He reassured attendees that there is no need to rush into purchasing 5G devices; the current 4G experience meets the needs of most users, and as technology progresses, 5G devices are expected to become more affordable. Addressing concerns about the new technology, Blewett asserted that there is no reason to fear 5G. He described the rollout as a natural progression in wireless technology, with the implementation of 5G continuing to evolve alongside customer needs and technological advancements. Looking ahead, Blewett acknowledged that further upgrades, such as 5.5G and 6G, are already on the horizon. However, he emphasized that the focus should remain on understanding and appreciating the benefits of each upgrade rather than getting caught up in the numbers. As discussions about 5G technology continue to unfold, Blewett’s insights reassure consumers of MTN Ghana’s commitment to a seamless technological transition that prioritizes user experience and understanding. On the hand, Stephen Blewett shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming launch of the MTN ICT Centre, set to debut in the first quarter of next year. This significant initiative, a collaborative project between MTN and the government, promises to reshape the technology landscape in Ghana. The government has generously provided the land for the centre, signaling a strong partnership aimed at fostering innovation and growth. Blewett emphasized the center’s potential to serve as an incubator for fresh ideas, entrepreneurs, and innovative solutions. With its state-of-the-art resources, the ICT Centre aims to nurture local talent and support businesses as they develop and market their products. He envisions a vibrant hub that not only showcases Ghana’s burgeoning entrepreneurship scene but also puts the country on the global map as a center for innovation. However, Blewett was clear in his message about the centre’s future. He stressed the critical importance of keeping the ICT Centre active and engaging. The goal is to ensure it thrives as a dynamic space rather than becoming an unused structure, often referred to as a “white elephant.” By maintaining its vitality, the ICT Centre can become a cornerstone for local entrepreneurs, helping to drive economic growth and innovation in Ghana for years to come. Celebrating Transformational Leadership, Excellence and Innovation was the theme for the engagement. Source: Apexnewsgh.com
