Pay NABCO trainees, if you claimed you care about the youth—Mahama to Dr. Bawumia

John Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has challenged Dr. Bawumia and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to clear arrears owed Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) trainees if they care for the youth. Apexnewsgh reports He highlighted the plight of former Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) trainees, who have been waiting for months to receive their unpaid allowances. Mr. Mahama pointed out that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had promised to secure jobs for the NABCO trainees after completing their program, but this promise has yet to be fulfilled. He argued that Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, should prioritize resolving NABCO’s outstanding financial obligations before making new promises on youth employment. “The governing NPP promised to provide jobs for the NABCO trainees after completion. It has been over three years, and that has not happened. The allowances they also promised them during the training have not been paid,” Mr. Mahama said. He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia should address the concerns of the NABCO trainees before making new promises to the youth. Mr. Mahama’s remarks came after Dr. Bawumia’s recent address at the Youth Connect program, where he highlighted the importance of youth in his vision for Ghana. Mr. Mahama’s comments were also echoed in a report by (link unavailable), which noted that the NABCO trainees have been waiting for months to receive their unpaid allowances. Source: Apexnewsgh.com

NABCO Beneficiaries to Receive Long-Overdue Arrears

In a heartening turn of events, beneficiaries of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) program are on the brink of receiving their long-awaited payments, amounting to eight months’ worth of arrears. Apexnewsgh reports This news has brought a wave of relief to the beneficiaries, many of whom have endured significant challenges due to the delayed payments. The NABCO program was introduced in 2017 by the Akufo-Addo administration with the aim of tackling graduate unemployment in Ghana. However, the beneficiaries have grappled with delayed payments, leading to severe hardships such as job loss, disruptions in education, and even personal struggles. According to reliable sources, the government is set to disburse approximately ¢6,300 to each NABCO beneficiary, covering five out of the nine months of outstanding arrears. This much-anticipated payment is expected to provide much-needed respite to the beneficiaries, who have patiently awaited their dues. It is important for the beneficiaries to ensure that their timesheets are readily available and signed when the opportunity arises to facilitate the smooth processing of their payments. The NABCO program, which operates under seven modules, has been a beacon of hope for many graduates seeking employment opportunities. This development marks a significant stride in addressing the concerns of NABCO beneficiaries, who have endured unimaginable hardships. As the government takes steps to settle the arrears, beneficiaries can finally see a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Source: Apexnewsgh.com

Thousands of NABCo Trainees Urges Dr. Bawumia to Fulfill Promise on Unpaid Arrears

A group of former NABCo trainees, known as the Coalition of NABCo Trainees, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to honor a promise he made to them during his campaign tour of the Volta Region. Apexnewsgh reports The promise, made on June 24, 2024, committed to paying the trainees’ 9-month arrears, which remain unpaid. The group expressed their disappointment and frustration, stating that “weeks have passed without action, and silence has followed.” They emphasized that the “broken promises and neglect are staggering,” and they will no longer “remain silent on this matter.” The coalition highlighted the struggles they face due to the unpaid arrears and the unfulfilled promise to mechanize the scheme, which has left them “struggling to survive in the grim economic outlook under your leadership.” The group has urged Dr. Bawumia to “honour” his promise and release their “outstanding arrears” without “further delay.” They also demanded the “immediate payment” of the outstanding arrears. Hope for Unpaid NABCO Beneficiaries as Vice President Bawumia Intervenes

The long-standing issue of unpaid stipends for National Builders Corps (NABCO) beneficiaries may soon be resolved, thanks to the intervention of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Apexnewsgh reports  The Vice President has taken a keen interest in the plight of the beneficiaries, who have gone eight months without payment. During a recent visit to the Volta Region, Dr. Bawumia responded to a question from a local chief regarding the government’s plans to settle the outstanding stipends. He assured the chief and the beneficiaries that the government is committed to paying the owed stipends. Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that the government still owes some stipends, which should be paid, and he promised to push the Ministry of Finance to settle the payments. He explained that the delay in payment was not intentional but rather a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted the economy. The Vice President’s intervention brings hope to the affected beneficiaries, who have been struggling to make ends meet due to the non-payment of their stipends. The move is seen as a testament to the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the youth and ensuring their welfare. The payment of the outstanding stipends is expected to bring relief to the beneficiaries, who have been patiently waiting for months. The government’s efforts to address this issue are likely to restore trust and confidence in the NABCO program, which aims to provide skills and employment opportunities to young Ghanaians. Suffering and abandoned NaBCo beneficiaries gives government 1 month ultimatum to clear arrears

The beneficiaries of the Nation Builder’s Corps (NaBCo) are expressing their disappointment in the government for excluding them from the initial disbursement phase of the YouStart program. Despite previous promises to prioritize NaBCo graduates for the YouStart initiative, this has not happened. YouStart, which was introduced as part of the 2022 budget, aims to support youth-led businesses by providing loans of up to GHS50,000, with a focus on empowering startups and small businesses. In July 2022, Deputy Finance Minister Dr John Kumah announced the government’s plan to transition NaBCo trainees into YouStart, effectively replacing the NaBCo program that ended in October 2021. However, the recent exclusion of NaBCo graduates from the initial disbursement phase of YouStart has left the former trainees feeling betrayed and uncertain. Despite applying for YouStart grants, none of them were selected for the program’s first disbursement phase. Additionally, the NaBCo beneficiaries are still waiting to be paid nine months of arrears. In a statement signed by National Secretary Frank Evans Quansah, the NaBCo beneficiaries have given the government a one-month ultimatum to pay them their outstanding arrears. The statement emphasized that the beneficiaries have “already lost trust” in the current government led by Nana Addo Bawumia. They are demanding full payment of the nine months arrears and have stated that they do not want to have any further dealings with this government. Furthermore, the beneficiaries have expressed their intention to reject any partisan statements or signs that attempt to use the failed NaBCo scheme to gain votes in the 2024 general elections. NABCO: President of (NABTAG) Dennis Opoku Katakyie sends ‘hard truth’ message to govt over unpaid 9 months arrears

President of the NABCO Trainees Association of Ghana (NABTAG) Dennis Opoku Katakyie has sent what he described as a ‘hard truth’ message to the government over their unpaid 9 months arrears. Apexnewsgh.com report According to NABTAG, even though they experienced some delays, the government has done well by not owing them within their 3 years contract. He said, after that, there was a contract extension for 10 months which the government has been able to pay one out of 10 months, still remaining 9 months unpaid. Speaking on Apexnews Ghana’s flagship programme dubbed “SPEAKOUT UPPER EAST” on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, Mr. Katakyie said, He wants to tell the government that, if is not careful and continue to sit on 9months stipends of innocent NABCO beneficiaries, it is going to be something worried to the government now and in future, because generations are going to use it a reference against this government. “I myself have been on a political stage to convince Ghanaians that Nano Addo brought Nation Builder Corps lets support him. We have petitioned him to make us permanent when the scheme is coming to an end and now he is on the battlefield let’s support him. Because nobody wants the mother, father, or CEO to die. If your CEO or father dies what will happen? That means you have lost someone valuable”. He stressed He further advised the government Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to learn from the statement made by former President John Dramani Mahama which he believes is still hunting political carrier and his party till date. “The former President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama last told graduates that he is not a magician to give them a job. This thing the former President said has really caused damages to him and his governance because they in day out people refer. So, if Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP government, this is hard truth am telling them if they don’t get rid of these unpaid stipends, children yet unborn will use as a response”. He stated “As for me, wherever I stand, I would preach about the positive aspect of the scheme and then bring our challenges to it to make it real and genuine but people may put away the importance and all of a sudden bring out the disadvantage or the bad aspect”. Insisting that others will go straight by saying the NPP government came and employ 100,000 NABCO trainees, they worked for 10 months and the NPP government paid them only one month. Some of the beneficiaries have died as a result of hardship, some have lost their marriages, some have ended their educational journey, some have been removed from their renting apartments, and a lot of them are going through one difficulty or the other and yet their cries have not been listened to by those at the helm of affairs at the time of filling this report. However, their petition to the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia which was received by a Deputy Chief of Staff has not received any attention till date despite the assurance of being a listening government by the Deputy Chief of Staff. NDC will offer permanent employment to NABCO beneficiaries—Bunkprugu MP

Member of Parliament for Bunkprugu Constituency in the North East Region Mr. Abed-Nego Bandim has sympathized with beneficiaries of Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) on their current predicaments with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) as he assured them a permanent job when NDC assumed office. Apexnewsgh.com report Speaking exclusively to Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com, the Bunkprugu legislator said: “The NABCO programme was only introduced by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a tool for political profiteering.  According to him, “…because the government wanted to use the youth to get into power and we in the NDC foresaw this and we warn the youth of this country that is a trap and is not going to help anything because we could see that its introduction, they were only interested in people who were aligned into the NPP. We saw people who they perceived to be NDC were taken out, they never received salary and we said No, this is not right, these are Ghanaians. So, if such a policy is been rollout, ensure that it favors everybody. But that wasn’t what we saw. So we warned them and the majority of them were before the 2020 election flying and shouting 4 more 4 Nana because there was NABCO but we knew it will not work and this is the result of it, that after they have won power now they cannot pay them, the economy is in shambled and they are now suffering and that is why they are embarking on demonstrations”. He said: “We from the NDC’s side, we recognized that the youth who are the future of this country has lots to offer and therefore, we will come out with sound policies that will be in our manifesto that they will see that it is workable, implementable and sustainable for them when we come to power. However, asking whether NABCO beneficiaries will be given a permanent job if NDC won power, Mr, Abed-Nego said ‘yes’. Explaining further the MP said: “We from the NDC side have the ability to create jobs and we have done that before. If you look at the inflationary rates, the employment rate before John Mahama handed over, it is now on the high side especially when they came out with all these measures, and yet it didn’t work out. So, we from the NDC will have a policy that will absorb our youth into permanent employment to ensure that everybody in Ghana is happy, we have done it before under Jerry Rawlings, Atta Mills and John Mahama so we have a track record.
