In the bustling town of Navrongo, excitement filled the air as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Simon Aworigo, made his way to the Naaga and Kologo communities. Apexnewsgh Reports His presence sparked hope among the residents, as he outlined the party’s ambitious policies to tackle the pressing developmental issues plaguing the area. Expressing gratitude to the national and regional executives for their visit, Aworigo warmly thanked the communities for their warm welcome. He emphasized the urgent need for change in both the presidential and parliamentary elections, citing eight years of hardships and struggles under the current administration. During his address, Aworigo shed light on some of the key challenges faced by the communities, including the lack of electricity in certain areas due to uncompleted rural electrification projects, unaddressed appeals for hospitals and secondary schools, and the persistent issues of deplorable roads and rampant armed robberies. To address these challenges, Aworigo presented the NDC’s comprehensive solutions. These included plans to upgrade infrastructure by improving roads such as the critical Bolga-Shirigu-Naaga route, creating youth employment opportunities through a 24-hour economy, implementing a free policy for the first-year students who gained admission in the university, establishing farmer service centers under the agricultural facility, and introducing a women’s development bank to empower women in the community. Focusing on the critical issue of youth unemployment, Aworigo highlighted that lack of opportunities was the primary concern. Research has also supported this, showing significantly higher unemployment rates among the youth compared to the adult population. The NDC’s policies aim to directly address this pressing concern. As the December elections draw near, Mr. Aworigo’s compelling message of change and development resonates deeply with constituents in the Navrongo Constituency, igniting a sense of hope and determination for a brighter future. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), recently embarked on a 3-day campaign in the Upper East Region, dubbing it a “retail campaign.” This grassroots approach aims to connect with people directly in remote communities, allowing him to grasp the challenges they face firsthand. By doing so, Asiedu Nketiah demonstrates his commitment to understanding the needs of the people and fostering meaningful relationships. Source: Apexnewsgh.com/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen/ Navrongo

JUST IN: NPP disqualifies 23 polling station applicants in Navrongo–Read Reasons
Information reaching Apexnewsgh.com has it that, 23 members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo Constituency have been disqualified from contesting the polling station election. According to one out of the 23 aggrieved disqualified members Gomez Ananzore, who is currently a sitting polling station Chairman for Old GBC Block 1, while narrating what happened, he said: “We picked a form to contest polling station executive position. So, when the forms were brought some of us who are old executives were denied forms. So, as you are aware in the district, if you cannot get a form you can apply to the region and if you apply to the region and you can get, you can apply to the national. So, we actually apply to the region and they made available some form for us”. “So, after we filled those forms and wanted to present the district refused to take because they did not give us those forms and again we petition the region and the region instructed them to take it. So, when they picked the 54 forms, they decided to call for a face-to-face interview with only those 54 people which was given by the region. “The panel was made of over 10 people chaired the Regional Nasara Coordinator Alhaji Siita. After the vetting, we were not told anything, only for us to hear that elections will be done today, so we also mobilize our people to go because we knew we have not done anything wrong, I have not been convicted of anything and am currently a polling station executive who still want to maintain his position. Out of the 54 applicants, 31 were disqualified and 23 were qualified. Other 40 applicants who were not part of the 54 who received their forms from the region were all cleared”. He narrated However, Mr. Ananzore believes some groups of people in Navrongo are hijacking the party by way of destroying the chances of others. “Once they don’t want us, they should take their party and we are good to go and therefore posterity will judge all of us”. He concluded However, when Apexnewsgh.com contacted the Regional Nasara Coordinator, who happened to be the Regional Chairman of the election committee Alhaji Mohammed Siita he said: “NPP as a party, we also have rules when it comes to conducting of elections and it doesn’t say because if you are this or that. If you want to contest, the form that you will pick, the rules are at the back of the form and you are supposed to take your time, study and know exactly what the requirements are before you can contest”. “He who is asking for equity must come with clean hands”. You don’t just get up and say I want to be a party person and you will not be questioned in several ways to know whether you are eligible or not. No party does that. He maintained “You applied and they went through that and found out that you have failed and you say you are leaving the party because of that? Who cares about that? Except those who don’t want the right thing to be done. I don’t care at all, because I know I have done what am supposed to do. The first qualification is that you must be a member of good standing. You should also be someone contesting in the position and be a voter at that particular polling station where you want to contest for the position. He said, Per the NPP party, someone who is a voter at the polling station you want to contest must propose you. Alhaji Siita said: “Some of them went and chose polling station that doesn’t exist and we said no, you cannot contest polling station that doesn’t exist. If you are a party person and a polling station has been moved, will still use that polling station to contest? You will not because if you are a party person, you will know that the polling station doesn’t exist any longer”. “If you are a civil servant, you cannot contest, you are not supposed to be in active politics. So, if you are a worker of the Municipal Assembly, you can’t contest. Some of them that was their case. Some of them didn’t even know that someone has gone to pick a form on their behalf to fill for them. Picking a form and filling for somebody is a crime”. Navrongo: People of Navrongo Constituency want Gregory Abasang as MP in 2024
Youth, men and women of the Navrongo Constituency in both home and abroad have intensified their calls for their son Gregory Abasang to represent the people of Navrongo under the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 Parliamentary elections. Apexnewsgh.com report According to the people, they believe Mr. Abasang will be a good replacement for the party and the people of Navrongo after the death of their political hero and the former Aviation Minister late Joseph Kofi Adda. However, upon hearing all these calls from the good people of Navrongo and knowing the political history about area, Apexnewsgh.com contacted Mr. Abasang for his urgent response following the continuous calls from his people to lead them in 2024 he said: “I was thinking it was too early for people to start looking for somebody to represent them in Parliament because there is an already sitting MP in Parliament”. According to him, “…the party is very important and bigger than any other person. NPP from the history since the formation of the party in 1992, the only disgraceful election we ever had in Navrongo, is the 2020 election due to hearsay. And that is what am thinking about how to resolve it and am consulting almost everybody in the constituency by way of telling them to sit up and leave everything behind us. Because we need to unite on the condition that we love the party and no matter how it is, NPP is greater than individual interest”. He said He said most times, people don’t understand that “As an MP, you are your people’s messenger if you understand and is not your duty to be telling them how rich you are. You must go and lobby for projects for your constituency to serve the people. So, it is wrong for an MP to always tell his constituents that he or she brought so and so development and if you don’t vote for him, he will deal with you. The MPs easily forgot that, is the poor boy, poor woman and our poor fathers and mothers who always give them the opportunity to represent us in Parliament”. He pointed Meanwhile, responding to those asking him to lead them in 2024, he said the voice of the people is the voice of God. But, stressing he has not made a decision yet. However, he thinks the senior men and women who should rather lead the party not him (Gregory) the poor boy. He wish they all come together and forget of incoming candidate but rather should look forward for good measures to unite the party in Navrongo. 2022 Budget full of Killer levies and taxes–Sampson Tangombu Chiragia
The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has described the E-transaction-Levy captured in the 2022 budget as a killer levy that is centered on a common person. The Navrongo legislator made the revelation during an exclusive interview with Apexnews-Ghana on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, the Navrongo Central legislator said, the region was neglected. According to the MP, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not against the tax because no country will develop without tax. But they are concerned about the innocent common person on the street struggling to get 3 square meals a day but are forced to pay what he described as a lot of levy and taxes’ Tangombu Chiragia further pointed that, they are not against Ofori-Atta coming to read the budget, because a budget is an estimate of what is supposed to be done for the development of this country. He explained, “…the issues we think the budget is not going to help a common person and as a social democratic party. You can understand that the budget is targeted to the common person and our aim is normally looking at the gap between the poor and the rich, but this particular budget is poorly centered. That’s why we are saying that there are certain issues that should be resolved so that, we can have the budget approved”. “Actually, there are a lot of taxes are centered on the common person, if you remember the 2022 budget, they were a lot of tax including borla tax and that is why today, the borla taxes are very high because of a number of taxes involved. The actual fuel price is not like we see it today but mostly about 42 to 48 percent are taxes, Ghanaians have already been taxed a lot. “Nobody is against tax, because without tax we cannot develop, but the taxes are a lot. The current Budget as we are talking about, if you look it very well, the benchmark values which we are all enjoying the discount of 50% at the port, they are withdrawing it. If they withdraw the benchmark it now means that all the cost of goods and services brought into this country will go back by a certain percentage. Because, if you are paying Ghc 50.00 for goods brought into this country, with the withdrawal of the benchmark you are now going to pay Ghc 100.00 and that will be passed to the common person and there are some other hidden taxes that people are not aware of”. “Before they came to power, the wholesalers and retailers are paid VAT flat. When you are a flat-rate taxpayer, it means that you pay only a cooperate levy of 1%, a flat rate taxpayer doesn’t pay GETFund levy and Health Insurance Levy totaling 5%. So, if they are moving you from a flat rate to a standard rate, it means you are now coming to pay the levy as high as 6%. So, those wholesalers and retailers whose annual income is more than 500.000 will have to pay the levies of 6% before VAT is put on top and NPP people think they are very wise. They don’t talk about tax, they talk about levies. “E-Levy is a killer levy, Imagine you are a teacher or a civil servant and they have transferred you from Bolgatanga to Accra and your wife and children are all in Bolga. Then, at the end of the day, your salary is not even enough, the government increases your salary by 4% annually and that 4% percent of Ghc 3000.00 which is about Ghc 120.00 and you are sending chop money of Ghc 1000.00 to your wife in Bolga for upkeep, which means you have to pay 1.75 percent. So, you can see, you are paying the tax again on income and that is now even the final tax is a levy”.
