The Upper East Regional has responded to the Navrongo Central Member of Parliament Sampson Tangombu Chiragia after he complained of wanting to come home every Friday but can’t due to the unavailability of an Airport in the region. Apexnewsgh.com reports According to the Navrongo Central Member of Parliament during an exclusive interview on the 2022 budget with Apexnewsgh.com, he said not even the controversial Upper East airport was captured in the 2022 Budget, which to him, he saw as very worrying especially with the difficulty the people of Upper East go through from Tamale before getting into the region. He appealed to the government to do something by starting the construction of the Airport for the people of the region. “As for this NPP budget, not even only constituency alone benefitted anything, I will say the whole region was neglected. If you look at the budget, there is nothing there for Upper East Region. We will continue to talk even our airport, is not easy driving from Tamale to Bolga at all”. He lamented He said MPs would always want to come back home every Friday to visit their constituents and return to Accra Monday but because there is no available airport for the region, it makes impossible. “We are saying that in fact, they should be able to do something in such that, we can also go home every Friday and come back on Monday. We don’t mind whichever part of the region they are putting the airport for us, even if they go and put it in Garu, it will still be better than going to Tamale and traveling all the way to Navrongo. However, reacting to the Navrongo MP, the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu said, if the MP cannot sacrifice for his people he doesn’t deserve their votes as an MP. “If an MP is in Accra, saying he wants to come home every weekend to see his constituents but because there is no airport he or she cannot come, I don’t think we should even vote for such Member of Parliament. Because such MP should be fighting for me and you to make sure there is an airport here. He should rather come back and sit in the region and those who are will fight for the airport will be allowed to go to parliament”. The Minister stated The Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu gave the rebuttal on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, during a press soiree organized by the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC). You have set a bad precedence, remember the table will turn one day – John Mahama to Akufo-Addo
The former President John Dramani Mahama has said, Nana Addo’s government has set a bad precedence following the closure of some radio stations that delayed in renewing their license. The former President who was on a ‘THANK YOU TOUR’ to appreciate the people of the Upper East Region for their wonderful support during the 2020 general election made the pronouncement to the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. According to Mr. Mahama, the constitution guarantees freedoms, human rights, freedom of association and so many other things, freedom and independence of the media and indeed there is a whole chapter on media freedom. “Unfortunately, even when you have the best constitution you can have governments that try to bend it to be able to achieve whatever ends they have in terms of limiting our democratic rights. So today government can say that a radio station has delayed in paying its license fee and so we are shutting you down. “When I talk about it I talk about it because of the precedence it can set .Because the shoe can be on the other foot the next day, they say the stick that is used to beat Takyi, it is the same stick they will use to be Baah. So the stations you don’t like you can close them down today, when another government comes and it decides to do the same thing to the stations they don’t like too, what kind of country will we be building?”The National Communications Authority (NCA), the broadcasting and telecommunication frequency regulator in Ghana, shut down Radio Gold and Radio XYZ, both based in Accra and aligned to the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC). A statement issued by the NCA in Accra on May 9, 2019, said the closures were carried out in line with Regulations 65 (1) of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011, L. I. 1991, which states that “A person shall not use a radio frequency without authorization from the Authority.” Referring to a 2018 ruling by the Electronic Communications Tribunal on the status of FM stations with expired authorization, the NCA said “Companies whose authorizations had expired reverted to the same position as a fresh applicant,” adding that “these applications shall go through the required procedure for new FM Broadcasting Authorization.” The regulator did not mention the two stations, implying that it was a general exercise. However, only Radio XYZ and Radio Gold have been closed so far. Officials of the NCA, backed by armed police officers, stormed the premises of the radio stations to enforce the shutdown in the afternoon of May 9. This is the second time in less than two years that the regulator has flexed its muscles against “defaulting stations.” Former President Mahama stressed In September 2017, the NCA carried out a massive purge of the broadcasting industry that saw a total of 34 radio and television stations being shut down for various infractions, in the enforcement of Section 13 of the Electronics Communications Act (2009), Act 775. The E-blocks standing, they are a disgrace to our national reputation John Mahama to UER-House of Chiefs
The former President John Dramani Mahama has pleaded with the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs to inform President Akufo-Addo that the E-blocks standing untouched across the region since the NPP administration, has become a disgrace to Ghana’s reputation The former President who was on a ‘THANK YOU TOUR’ to appreciate the people of the Upper East Region for their wonderful support during the 2020 general election made the plea to the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. “Governance is supposed to be a continuum and so when a government takes over from the other, it continuous what the previous government was doing. When I came into office, as best as I could the projects that we had inherited from the preceding government we tried to continue them”. Some we concluded, others we move to another level so that another government will come and continue and so I will urge that you continue to urge on this president that the E-blocks that are standing, they are a disgrace to our national reputation. “You are the moral voices of our society. You should continue to draw government’s attention to taxpayer’s money that is being wasted by the numerous abandoned projects that we have in your traditional areas”. “Because, as I have said before it is not my Education Minister who was my running mate in 2020 Naana Opoku Agyeman who financed them out of her pocket, or it wasn’t me who financed that project from my pocket it was the taxpayer’s money, your money and my money that we used to put up this blocks” However, the President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs Pe Dituudini Adiana Ayagitam III who doubles as the paramount chief for the Chiana Traditional Area during his speech described the former President as an ‘epitome’ of peace especially with his posture of calming down growing tensions across the country after the result declaration and during the 2020 election petition. The Upper East Regional House of Chiefs was grateful for the appreciation shown by the former President John Dramani Mahama especially by choosing Upper East Region first as he embarked on his Thank You Tour journey across other regions Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. John Dramani Mahama’s speech at the 9th wreath laying ceremony of HE Professor JEA Mills
Ladies and Gentlemen! Good Morning. Today, we recognise not only Professor Mills, but also our Founder, Jerry John Rawlings, and also our former Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, who have since passed away. I invite you to pay a minute’s silence for their souls. May their souls rest in perfect peace. We are all gathered here, at the Asomdwee Park, today – as citizens, family, friends, sympathizers and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) – to celebrate the life and legacy of President Professor John Evans Atta Mills. Prof., as we all fondly called him, is our departed hero and inspiration who continues forever to live in our hearts and minds. Nine years ago, even the heavens themselves displayed the ominous signs when the skies, which were previously bright, suddenly darkened as though about to rain. A gripping cold enveloped the whole nation. Yes, it was a Tuesday afternoon. Our nation was in shock when news came through confirming the unprecedented event of the death of our sitting President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills. It is a tragedy we all pray would never befall our nation ever again. Nine years have passed but anytime we celebrate the anniversary of his departure, we are reminded of the values and principles he extolled and lived-by: a Leadership of Service, Compassion, Integrity, Humility, Sacrifice, and Unity. Nine years ago, his family lost a God-fearing, devoted father, brother and husband; our country lost a priceless gem, a true servant leader; Africa lost an exemplary illustrious son, the NDC lost a torchbearer, and I lost not only my superior, but a friend and mentor. Although his Presidency was unexpectedly short-lived, his legacy and record remain unmatched in the annals of our nation’s history. I am honoured to have played a humble part as his Vice President and Head of the Economic Management Team. He was a team leader and it was under his guidance that the NDC administration chalked most of its notable achievements, including the longest period of single digit inflation in the history of Ghana for two years continuously, the highest economic growth record of 14.4%, placing Ghana at the top of the World Bank ease of doing business survey for West Africa, making Ghana the number one preferred destination in West Africa for investors. This was not all. Every sector of our national life, including education and health received massive boosts and growth, particularly through investments in socio-economic infrastructure and human resource development. Yet, being the humble achiever that he was, Prof. in tandem with the tradition of the NDC derived no satisfaction or desire to reel off his unmatched economic statistics in self-praise, when his work was there to speak for him. He was more concerned with seeing to the upliftment of the socio-economic circumstances of the people of Ghana so they could live in dignity and prosperity, irrespective of where they were coming from or belonged. Yes, he was a father for all! Indeed, as a social democratic party founded on modesty and not bragging, it must be obvious to all sincere minds that only the party that achieved that feat knows what it takes and can take the country to those heights again. The leadership of President Mills, together with the hardworking and resourceful team in government, gave our nation a blueprint of excellence- the NDC, having laid a strong socio-economic foundation, would utilize in its next government in service to the people of Ghana and in honour of President Mills. President Mills demonstrated that one could rise to the highest positions in life – Professor, scholar, expert in his field, and President – and still be a humble learner. Power never changed him. He changed the direction of power by giving it back to the people whom he led and saw as key partners towards the realization of an open and transparent government. His ultimate aim was to achieve a better Ghana of shared prosperity for all. Like an open book, he was transparent and saw as important the need to account to the people of Ghana. He respected Ghanaians. Professor Mills was passionately concerned about wastefulness, profligacy and arrogant dissipation of public funds and resources. He didn’t just espouse his principles; he lived by them. His strong abhorrence for corruption energized and encouraged anti-corruption agencies to come out and expose all persons found to have been involved in the canker in every strata of society. He saw anti-corruption campaigners and activists as partners in the fight against corruption rather than enemies of the state. President Mills strongly abhorred politics of insults. He saw politics as a contest of ideas and was constantly concerned about the need for leaders to be proper role models to the younger generation who are keenly watching and may end up emulating the actions of the political class. Unfortunately, he was attacked viciously by opponents even when he was unwell, but the NDC has continued to live by his tolerant nature. It is imperative that we, as members and sympathizers of the NDC, continue to be guided by the values of truth, humility, transparency and accountability that are exemplified in Professor Mills. I lived it, and while some, including from within our party will criticize me for it, I believe that our politics must be a platform and opportunity to ensure total development and a general improvement in the lives of the Ghanaian, and not an opportunity for wickedness, trampling on the rights of your people, the destruction of businesses of perceived political opponents, pushing the parochial interests of your family and friends, etc. It is especially critical for the survival of our nation that the NDC as a social democratic party restores these values and principles that have been lost in our country in order to be distinct from the NPP, and above all, in order that our people can begin to hope again and trust in our institutions once again. In closing, as we are all gathered here in celebration
“I was very disappointed in the result of the election in the Upper East Region–President Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his recent visit to the Upper East Region has disappointed some party personalities who claimed all is well with President Akufo-Addo regarding the party abysmal performance in the region during the 2020 general election. Apexnewsgh.com reports Upper East Region is one of the regions across the country that performed abysmally during the 2020 general elections. Before the general elections in 2020, politicians from both the opposition NDC and the governing NPP in the region predicted a number of Parliamentary seats both parties will capture after the final election declaration results. NDC, knowing they dominate the Upper East Region, came out with Operation 16-16 meaning that they are not leaving any constituency out, whiles the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the region strongly believes they will capture between 5 to 7 seats out of 16 constituencies. However, the predictions went in favor of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who nearly took all the 16 seats but succeeded in capturing 15 seats in the region, leaving only one seat for the governing NPP, the Binduri seat. Even though one would have thought that the already secured 3 seats by the governing party will be maintained but unfortunately, all the old seats were lost to the NDC. President Akufo-Addo during his speech at the Bawku Naba Palace made what he what described as a ‘frank’ pronouncement to the people of the Upper East Region during his visit to Zug-Raan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II “Just as you speak frankly to me, I have to speak frankly to you as well and had to say to you that I was very disappointed in the result of the election in the Upper East Region. Especially if you have considered the work we have done in this region. But whatever the case may be, at least we have one seat in the case of the MP for Binduri” President Akufo-Addo said. Prices of Millet, maize, rice and others in the Upper East Region increasing massively- Apexnewsgh-Tv reports (WATCH VIDEO)
For some time now, Bolgatanga Municipal as a regional capital of the Upper East Region has become a place of unbearable increment of goods and services. This trending development is gradually becoming a huge canker that cannot be controlled if care is not taken by those mandated and paid with the taxpayer’s money to control such irregularities. Unfortunately, the two main local political party communicators in the region NDC and NPP have started playing politics with such terrible development in the name of ‘I SPEAK FOR MY PARTY’ without considering the majority of the needy and those who cannot afford to meet up with the growing unfortunate development. Very pathetic, isn’t it? From what Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen gathered when Apexnewsgh-Tv visited the popular Bolgatanga Ayia market of the Upper East Region, it appears that millet and maize saw an increment of over (95) percent between the last year 2020 and the month of June 2021. Ironically, the market women themselves were not happy with such development. According to them, the skyrocketing prices of their products are gradually becoming an impediment to them because consumers are no longer forthcoming to patronize them as usual and that is affecting their responsibilities at home as family breadwinners. That’s alarming, isn’t it? Even though Apexnewsgh-Tv crew tried so hard to avoid some political comments during our engagement with some of these traders, they still insist on blaming the government of the day for their predicaments. According to them, during the time of John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, things were better for them and everyone in need of buying their product was able to afford it. Just last year 2020, a bag of maize was sold between Ghc 120.00 to Ghc 150.00 and a bag of millet was sold between Ghc 150.00 to Ghc 200.00. Currently, as at June 5, 2021, the Price of Maize is sold in the Bolgatanga Ayia market between Ghc 230.00 and Ghc 240.00 whiles millet is sold between Ghc 340.00 and Ghc 350.00 A bag of unpolished local rice 100kg bag is sold between Ghc 500.00m and Ghc 530.00 Prices of groundnut and Dawadawa bags isn’t an exception. Watch the video: Indeed, it is gradually becoming a true reflection of a particular popular saying that ‘when two elephants fight, the grass suffers’ May those in control at the top, remember to consider the ordinary people who struggle to eat ones in a day.
