In a momentous step toward inclusive development and improved public service delivery, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, under the leadership of Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has officially inaugurated the Bolgatanga Passport Application Centre (PAC) in the Upper East Regional capital. Apexnewsgh reports This landmark initiative forms part of the government’s broader commitment to decentralising passport services, thus ensuring that every Ghanaian, regardless of geographic location, enjoys equitable access to essential documentation. For decades, residents of the Upper East Region and its surrounding communities faced significant hurdles in obtaining or renewing their passports. The closest PACs were located in Tamale and Kumasi, forcing applicants to embark on long, costly, and often inconvenient journeys, sometimes spanning over three hours, just to complete the process. For a region with a population exceeding 1.3 million, this meant countless hours lost, added financial burdens, and unnecessary risks on the road. The opening of the Bolgatanga PAC signals an end to these challenges. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Ablakwa acknowledged the historical significance of the day: “This is the first time in the history of the Upper East Region that we are opening a Passport Application Centre. Today, we are making history. It should not have taken us this long, but as they say, better late than never.” He further emphasized that development must be inclusive and not limited to a select few regions: “Government services must be made available to all parts of Ghana so that all of us can feel a part of our national progress and transformation.” The story of the Bolgatanga PAC is also one of community spirit and collaboration. The Alagumgube Association, a local group with its founder, Gabriel Agambila, played a pivotal role by mobilizing resources to assist in the renovation of the facility, originally a Ghana Commercial Bank property. The bank readily handed over the building for conversion, removing all obstacles to the project. Regional authorities also demonstrated keen interest, with the regional minister reaching out for the Ministry’s approval and support. Hon. Ablakwa praised the sense of unity, stating, “What we celebrate today is a mark of togetherness, of unity, of community support where we all come together.” The Minister was quick to commend the Ministry’s staff, who undertook long journeys and tireless nights to ensure that the new centre met the exacting standards required for a modern passport office. This included directors from various departments, Finance, Passport, Consulate in Humanitarian Affairs Bureau (COHAB), and Information Public Affairs Bureau (IPAP), alongside private partners and courier companies, all combining their efforts for a seamless launch. The Bolgatanga PAC is a key milestone in a nationwide agenda. Until now, seven regions in Ghana lacked a passport application centre. With the new addition, that number is down to six, and Hon. Ablakwa has set an ambitious target: by the end of 2025, every one of Ghana’s 16 regions will have its own PAC. “We are putting in the resources, we are putting in the effort, and I am very confident that by the end of this year, all 16 regions in Ghana will have passport application centers,” he assured. This commitment, he explained, stems from the government’s belief that development must be inclusive, reaching every corner of the country. He reminded attendees that the acquisition of a passport is a right, not a privilege, for every Ghanaian citizen. The Bolgatanga PAC is not just about access; it also represents a leap forward in security and efficiency. Ghanaian passports are now highly sought after, particularly following successful negotiations for visa waivers and the country’s removal from the US sanction list. As a result, demand for Ghanaian passports has surged, particularly in border regions like Upper East, which shares a boundary with Burkina Faso. Hon. Ablakwa assured the public that robust security protocols are in place to prevent fraudulent passport acquisition. All PACs across Ghana are networked and powered by advanced AI technology. “Once you are blacklisted here in Bolga, immediately, in real time, you are blacklisted at all passport application centers across the country,” he explained, highlighting a new era of digital vigilance. “We have retrained all our passport application offices. There is absolutely no way that we are going to allow the Ghanaian passport to be easily obtained by any foreigner.” The Minister also discussed a suite of customer-focused reforms designed to make the passport process more convenient than ever. Notably, applicants no longer need to return to the PAC to receive their passports; instead, Ghana Post now delivers completed passports directly to applicants’ homes or offices. An e-tracking system allows applicants to monitor the status of their applications in real time. Additionally, the Ministry guarantees that passports will be ready within 15 working days, with an expedited service available for those who need their documents even faster, sometimes in as little as three days. The Bolgatanga PAC is equipped to issue Ghana’s latest generation of chip-embedded passports, compliant with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. These modern documents offer enhanced security features and durability, ensuring their holders enjoy a smooth experience both locally and internationally. Hon. Ablakwa demonstrated the effectiveness of the new system by surprising the first seven citizens of Bolgatanga, who had earlier completed their biometrics, with their new chip-embedded passports—ready in under five days. “We mean business,” he declared, “This is not some white elephant commissioning. Once we commission, the passport application officials will start work immediately. And those of you who don’t have passports can apply immediately.” Residents of the Upper East Region seeking passport services can now contact the Bolgatanga PAC via email at ipab@mfa.gov.ghOpens a new window or by phone at +233 240 913 284 and +233 240 793 072. For updates and further information, the Ministry maintains an active presence on its official X (Twitter) handle, @GhanaMFA. Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of the Ministry’s online application platform for faster, more efficient processing and to utilize the new centre for all passport-related needs. ORAL Committee to Present Report to President Mahama Amidst Over 700 Petitions
The Chairman of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the committee will soon present its report to President John Dramani Mahama. Apexnewsgh reports This comes after the committee received over 700 petitions from the public, a daunting task that Ablakwa acknowledges, but one that the committee is passionate about tackling. Speaking to Citi News, Ablakwa emphasized that the committee’s work is aimed at ensuring accountability and keeping government officials in check. “We are all passionate about this,” he said. “And what I like about what is going on is that we have the opportunity to show the same passion that we exhibited in opposition, now that we are in government, we are committed to this.” The ORAL Committee has been working tirelessly to review the petitions and gather information. Ablakwa noted that the committee would soon begin the validation process to ensure thoroughness and accuracy in the information gathered. This process will involve field validation sessions across the country, where the committee will visit all regions that have submitted reports. Ablakwa expressed his commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that the committee’s work serves as a deterrent to those in government. “What this does is that it serves as a deterrent to those of us coming into government,” he said. The ORAL Committee’s report is expected to be presented to President Mahama soon, and Ablakwa is confident that the committee’s work will make a significant impact in the fight against corruption. Ablakwa Challenges Government’s Stance on Galamsey
North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has recently made headlines with his strong allegations against the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. Apexnewsgh reports Ablakwa has accused the government of shielding politically exposed individuals involved in illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey. His claims were backed by evidence contradicting the Ministry’s position, particularly regarding the involvement of President Akufo-Addo’s daughters in the controversial issue. At the heart of the controversy is Elite Minerals Ghana Limited, a company allegedly linked to the President’s daughters. Ablakwa challenged the Ministry’s assertion that the company was incorporated in 2008, presenting documents from the Office of the Registrar of Companies that indicated Elite Minerals was actually incorporated on April 22, 2014. Additionally, he disputed the Ministry’s claim that Elite Minerals had a mining license dating back to 2012, pointing out that the company didn’t even exist at that time. Ablakwa further raised concerns about Elite Minerals’ directors, Alvin Mensah and Awo Mensah, who are said to be close associates of the President’s daughters. He alleged that they have been involved in questionable business dealings, including a USD34.9 million ambulance scandal. The MP’s accusations have ignited a heated debate about the government’s handling of galamsey and its connections to powerful individuals. Ablakwa emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the fight against illegal mining, urging the government to act in the nation’s interest and not protect elite individuals engaged in such activities. As the controversy continues to unfold, it is evident that the fight against galamsey requires utmost transparency and accountability. Unraveling the Mystery: Ablakwa Queries GHS168m Drain Post-African Games Fiasco
In the wake of the 13th African Games that concluded in Accra on March 23, 2024, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the resolute North Tongu MP, has raised alarming revelations about the financial operations surrounding the tournament. Apexnewsgh reports Ablakwa asserts that a perplexing saga of withdrawals totaling a staggering GHS168,386,331.00 has unfolded long after the final cheers of the Games faded away. With a bold sense of duty, Ablakwa took to social media to unmask the enigmatic series of transactions that have unfolded in recent weeks, all under the banner of the supposedly concluded tournament. He outlined a timeline that seemed to defy logic: On May 17, 2024, an eye-watering sum of GHS70,000,000.00 vanished from the national coffers, purportedly under the guise of “Payment for 13th African Games.” This grand spectacle was followed by a further extraction on July 3, 2024, where GHS30,000,000.00 was siphoned off for the same purported reason. Just thirteen days later, a mirroring sum of GHS30,000,000.00 was whisked away, leaving many scratching their heads in incredulity. To add a final stroke of peculiarity, a seemingly erratic release of GHS38,386,331.00 occurred on the same day – July 16, 2024 – all ostentatiously labeled as payments for the bygone African Games. Ablakwa’s exasperation is palpable as he brings to light the gravity of these dubious post-tournament disbursements, particularly when juxtaposed against the Finance Ministry’s previous allocation of over GHS460 million, a figure significantly surpassing the parliamentary mandate. With unwavering determination, Ablakwa demands accountability from the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, urging the powers that be to shed light on the purpose behind these obscure financial maneuvers. He passionately insists that in a time of economic turmoil, where sectors languish due to inadequate funding and the populace grapples with worsening conditions, such financial hemorrhaging cannot persist unchecked. The call for transparency resonates as Ablakwa presses for clarity. Source: Apexnewsgh.com Thanks for reading from Apexnewsgh as a news publishing website from Ghana. MP Ablakwa Requests Evidence of Rock City’s Tax Clearance Certificate
North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has filed a request under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, seeking proof of Rock City’s GRA Tax Clearance Certificate. Ablakwa alleges that Rock City, bidding to acquire a 60% stake in four SSNIT Hotels, failed to file tax returns for 2021 and 2022, rendering their tax clearance certificate invalid during the tender process. Apexnewsgh reports Citing the Income Tax Act and SSNIT’s Pre-Qualification Criteria, Ablakwa argues that Rock City’s bid should have been disqualified. He is also seeking the full evaluation report and tender committee meeting minutes. The MP expects SSNIT to comply with the RTI law and provide the requested information, promoting transparency and accountability. Ablakwa has been vocal in opposing the sale, labeling it “state capture” and organizing a demonstration against it. He urges Ghanaians to resist the transaction, exercising his parliamentary oversight mandate. Source: Apexnewsgh.com Thanks for reading from Apexnewsgh as a news publishing website from Ghana. MP Ablakwa Announces Demonstration Against Sale of SSNIT Hotels, Accuses Government of “State Capture”
Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that a demonstration against the sale of hotels belonging to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) will take place on Tuesday, June 18. Apexnewsgh reports The demonstration, dubbed “Hands Off Our Hotels Demonstration,” follows Ablakwa’s petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) against the sale of the hotels to Agric Minister Bryan Acheampong. Ablakwa alleges that the sale of the state properties to government officials is an abuse of power and should be prohibited. He claims to have intercepted documents showing that negotiations to sell 60% of the shares of six SSNIT hotels to the minister’s Rock City Hotel Limited are far advanced. The MP is seeking relief from CHRAJ, including a full-scale investigation into the sale, which he believes raises fundamental concerns about conflict of interest and abuse of power. He also wants CHRAJ to investigate SSNIT’s conduct and procurement processes, citing numerous violations of due process and unfair treatment. Ablakwa’s petition further alleges that Minister Acheampong has not obtained the necessary permission from the Speaker of Parliament to hold an office of profit, in violation of Article 78(3) and 98(2) of the 1992 Constitution. The demonstration has been sanctioned by the police, and Ablakwa has called on supporters to join him on Tuesday, June 18, to protest what he describes as “state capture.” Source: Apexnewsgh.com Thanks for reading from Apexnewsgh as a news publishing website from Ghana. President Akufo-Addo Criticized for Silence on Plight of Volta Residents Affected by Dam Spillage
Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed disappointment in President Akufo-Addo for not addressing the struggles of thousands of residents of Mepe and surrounding areas in the Volta region during his recent State of the Nation Address. These residents were severely affected by the spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams, which occurred months ago. Ablakwa highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the displaced residents who continue to rely on private donations for survival, as the government has not provided any support in resettlement, compensation, or livelihood assistance. He criticized the President’s silence on this issue, deeming it as insensitive towards the suffering of the affected communities. In an interview with Class News, Ablakwa condemned the lack of government intervention, calling it “shocking,” “unconscionable,” and “unacceptable.” He emphasized that the displaced residents are in need of support and assistance to rebuild their lives after the devastating flood waters destroyed their homes and farms. Approximately 30,000 residents were displaced by the dam spillage, with the Volta River Authority justifying the action as necessary to prevent a collapse of the dam. However, Ablakwa believes that the government should take responsibility for supporting these displaced individuals and providing them with the necessary resources for recovery. As the affected communities continue to face challenges, Ablakwa is urging the government to prioritize the needs of these residents and to take immediate action to address their plight. Replace lost documents for free for my constituents – North Tongu MP
North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has called on authorities to urgently replace essential documents lost by his constituents following the recent VRA spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong dams. The floods that resulted from the spillage have caused widespread displacement and loss in Mepe and surrounding areas of the Volta region. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Mr. Ablakwa stressed the need for immediate action to replace important documents such as Ghana Cards, Health Insurance Cards, Birth Certificates, Voter ID Cards, and Passports for those affected by the floods. He urged relevant institutions to carry out these replacements free of charge, given the challenging circumstances faced by his constituents. However, Mr. Ablakwa called on the government to fulfill its constitutional duty to begin resettlement efforts and provide compensation to the victims of the VRA spillage without delay. He emphasized that any further delays in assisting these individuals would be unacceptable and urged the government to act promptly and effectively to address their needs. Ghana’s Shocking $8.5 Million Budget for 2023 AFCON Revealed
North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has recently obtained documents that confirm the Ghanaian government and the Ghana Football Association’s agreement on a staggering $8,506,450.00 budget for the preparation and participation of the 2023 AFCON tournament. This substantial amount translates to a colossal GHS105 million at the current exchange rate. According to Ablakwa, this GHS105 million is completely separate from the GHS27.9 million spent on the qualifiers. The intercepted letter from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, dated January 2nd, 2024, contains the requested partial payment of $5,071,840.36 from the total Black Stars budget of $8,506,450.00. The letter, signed by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. William Kartey, on behalf of the Minister, Mustapha Ussif, raises questions about the reasoning behind such an exorbitant budget for a country grappling with financial difficulties, including defaulting on loans and seeking an IMF bailout. Comparatively, the prize money for the winner of the ongoing AFCON in Ivory Coast is $7 million. Ablakwa highlights that even if the Black Stars had won the tournament, the budget would have resulted in losses exceeding $1.5 million. He questions why a country like Zambia can approve a budget of only $2.1 million for the same competition but Ghana, a financially distressed nation unable to provide basic amenities to its citizens, opts for such lavish spending. Furthermore, Ablakwa emphasizes that the massive budget did not guarantee success on the pitch either. He claims that this exorbitant sum explains the efforts made by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government and FA officials to conceal the Black Stars AFCON budget, which raises concerns about their intentions. Ablakwa vows that Parliament will investigate this astonishing budget when it reconvenes on February 6th, 2024. Ghana’s disappointment in the early exit of the Black Stars from the AFCON tournament for the second time in a row adds to the public’s frustration with the situation. I only took Ofori-Atta on a tour; I didn’t receive any personal donation from him—Ablakwa clarifies
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has clarified that he has not personally received any donations from Ken Ofori-Atta, the Minister of Finance, during his visit to North Tongu. Ablakwa addressed this matter during an interview on an Accra-based radio station monitored online by this platform, emphasizing that the pictures circulating, suggesting he had received a donation on behalf of flood victims, are misleading and untrue. “It is important to clarify this point that I have not received any personal donation from the Finance Minister. I hope that those pictures and the focus to create the impression as if I have received something. Because if you look at the pictures carefully it was when I was taking him on a tour and showing him the level of devastation and he was really shocked. “He told me that the media had not captured it fully and he repeated it in the budget statement that he was totally shocked. He couldn’t believe the level of devastation,” Mr. Ablakwa said. According to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Akosombo Dam Spillage has affected a significant number of residents in the North Tongu area. More than 12,000 individuals and over 1,500 houses have been impacted by the flooding. The overall figure for the eight affected districts, which include South and Central Tongu, Anlo, Asougyaman, Ada East, and others, exceeds 26,000. Unfortunately, despite the ongoing disaster, the government has not yet made any plans for the resettlement of the victims. As a result, those whose houses were destroyed by the floods are still residing in uncomfortable conditions within temporary camps.
