NDC’s Neglect of Upper East Region: A Tale of Broken Loyalty

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted its National Campaign Team for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary campaigns. Apexnewsgh reports  The team, appointed by the Functional Executive Committee, is tasked with prosecuting the party’s campaign nationwide. The National Campaign Team is led by Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary, as Campaign Coordinator, with Dr. Joseph Yammin, National Organizer, as Deputy Campaign Coordinator in charge of regional campaigns. Other members include Richard Quashiga, Chief Hamilton Nixon Biney, Sammy Gyamfi, George Opare Addo, Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, Alhaji Cole Younger, Prof. Joshua Alabi, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Beatrice Annan, Alex Segbefia, James Agyenim Boateng, and Eric Adjei. The team will work under the guidance of a Campaign Steering Committee chaired by Johnson Asiedu Nketia, with members including Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, Dr. Ato Forson, Rt. Hon. Doe Adjaho, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, Kofi Totobi Quakyi, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, Betty Mould Iddrisu, Julius Debrah, Marrietta Brew, Dr. Valerie Sawyer, Sam Pee Yalley, and Alhaji Alhassan Ligbi. The National Campaign Team and Steering Committee will report to the Functional and National Executive Committees of the party, with the flag-bearer, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, providing overall leadership. Despite the unwavering loyalty of the Upper East Region to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party has consistently neglected the region when making critical appointments. This disturbing trend has become a norm, leaving party members in the region feeling disenfranchised and disillusioned. The Upper East Region has been a stronghold for the NDC since 1992, earning it the nickname “World Bank for the NDC.” Even in opposition, the NDC boasts 14 Members of Parliament from the region, while the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) only has one. This impressive feat alone deserves recognition and respect from the party leadership. However, the region’s dedication and contributions seem to go unnoticed, as key appointments and decisions continue to bypass the region. The silence from party members in the region is deafening, as they fail to express their discontent to the leadership in Accra. Only one person Richard Anamoo was appointed as representative of the NDC’s professional forum out of 33 appointments. This neglect has created a sense of disillusionment among party faithful in the Upper East Region, who feel their loyalty and hard work are being taken for granted. The NDC must acknowledge and address this issue to prevent further disillusionment and potential defections. The party’s neglect of the Upper East Region is a stark reminder that loyalty and dedication are not always reciprocated. Source:  Apexnewsgh.com

Upper East NDC leadership are late commas, reasons why they can’t get development for the region

If you are wondering why the debate about the NDC in the Upper East Region not bringing development still exists in the minds of some residents of the region, don’t look any further. Apexnewsgh.com report Mr. Yen Nyeya has revealed, that those seen as NDC leadership in the Upper East Region are late commas in the party, they are not seen as parts and parcels of the party. The reason they are not given attention by the party when it comes to sharing the national cake for the region’s development. Mr. Nyeya made the pronouncement in an exclusive interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com on Friday, February 3, 2023. Giving a brief history of what happened in the past, he said Upper West is well recognized by the NDC because when former President Jerry J. Rawlings needed an alternative, he found Upper West as a source to recruit and counterpart people in the Upper East Region and that is why we have the Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin’s, the present Speaker, you had the late Sali and others who were brought into the regime and in the process of development, any little development is sent there. So, the Upper Easterners who later joined the PNDC or the NDC were late commas and you can see, that they don’t have that strength or control. Supposing if I and Nicholas Atampugre and Co had stayed, we may have been able to extract resources. The Cletus Avoka and Mahama Ayariga, they came later. So, because they were late commas, they were not able to gain that access because is about those whose voices are heard. But unfortunately, they are not seen as part of the various government that has ruled in the NDC and NPP, the leadership are not seen as part and parcel of those parties, they are not seen as owners. Hon. Asaga and co were Ministers but they were seen as late commas. Mr. Nyeya believes the people he describes as late commas in the NDC didn’t have much influence to extract development for the region. “So, they didn’t have that much influence and even in terms of a new colonial development, they could not access the little resources that were there to the region and that is why up to now, we don’t have an Airport”. He told Apexnewsgh.com
