Peter Ayinbisa, the Upper East Regional Communication Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said, he is expecting the party National Party’s leadership to come out openly to condemn the ethnocentric comment made by Hopeson Adorye against Northerners.
According to Mr. Ayinbisa, he believes the delegates are those who will speak.
He spoke with Ngaemegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com exclusively on Monday, August 15, 2022.
“I expect the leadership of the party to condemn him and ask him to apologize to Northerners in general for that reckless comment that he made. I expect in the coming days to see the General Secretary, the National Chairman, and the rest of the executives issuing a query to him and demanding an unqualified apology from him regarding Northerners because in this case is not even about the NPP is about Northerners in general”.
“Is not good for our party to be divided into those things, is not good for a senior party member like Hopeson to have to say what he said. But I believe that the delegates are those who will speak. When the time comes, they will decide who will lead this party. The delegates are very sophisticated these days, whoever they elect, at the end of the day as our flagbearer all of us are going to rally behind that person. It doesn’t lie in the mouth of Hopeson to think that we the Northerners are supposed to be running mates. In fact, I wanted to remain neutral but the fact that he insulted us the Northerners, I think what he has said in bad taste, he shouldn’t have made that comment, I condemned that comment”.
“But, we are not shaking as a party we will look at what the instructions and directions will be moving forward”.
“So, for me, as a Northerner am not happy he has re-relegated us to background thinking that we are supposed to be running mates. We think that we have what it takes to lead this country. NDC have had it, they had John Mahama and we too will have it”.
Hopeson Adorye was captured making these pronouncements after a health walk organized by supporters of Alan John Kyerematen on Saturday.
“Whenever a Danquah leads the party, the Busia side steps aside but there is a Dombo (for running mate), and whenever a Busia lead, the Danquah side steps aside but there is a Dombo (for running mate). As for the Dombos they are always there (for running mate).
“If it went to Danquah, came to Busia, went back to Danquah, where should it go now, is it not Busia?” Adorye asked.
