The Member of Parliament for the Zebilla Constituency Hon. Cletus Avoka has made interesting revelations about how parliamentarians started using their car boot as offices in the first Parliament.
The veteran politician when addressing participants in Bolgatanga during a peace walk organized the mark the 30th anniversary of Parliament democracy on Saturday, June 17, 2023, narrated how they were using their car boots as an office for parliamentary activities. An activity they were carrying on due to the lack of office space for Members of Parliament in the country.
“First Parliament I was there, we didn’t have an office, we were having Parliamentary proceeding from the Accra International Conference Center there was no Parliament house, we didn’t have a chamber, we didn’t have offices, we were using our car boots as offices”.
However, responding to the call for the review of the constitution, Hon Avoka said: “Many people have made observations or concerns about the constitution but I want us to understand that a constitution is a living document, yet admittedly there are some areas that need improvement but the good thing is that for the past 30years, we have had a stable country and that is commendable”.
The 30th anniversary of Parliamentary democracy was massively celebrated by both current and former Parliamentarians from the Upper East region and beyond.
