Abdallah Salifu, Upper East Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emphasized the party’s desire for a neutral referee in the upcoming 2024 elections. Apexnewsgh reports
Speaking to Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of ApexnewsGh, Salifu stressed that the Electoral Commission (EC) must ensure a fair and transparent process for a peaceful election.
The NDC has been vocal about its concerns with the EC, citing several issues that need attention. One major concern is the addition of 38 people from Tamale South to the Pusiga constituency, which Salifu believes is not a mere mistake.
Furthermore, the party has detected over 249,000 names added to the voter register without accountability and 15,000 names transferred between constituencies without proper documentation.
Mr. Salifu views these irregularities as manipulation by the EC, led by Jean Mensah, which he claims is biased towards the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NDC is seeking transparency and accountability, emphasizing that a neutral referee is essential for a fair election.
The party’s concerns come ahead of the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections, with former President John Dramani Mahama urging stakeholders, including the EC, to ensure a free and fair process. As tensions rise, the NDC’s demand for neutrality highlights the importance of trust in Ghana’s electoral system.
