The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has opened applications for its newest initiative, the Youth in Sustainable Charcoal Production Project, targeting young people across the Greater Accra Region.
The project is designed to equip participants with the skills to transform coconut waste, corn cobs, rice husks, and other agricultural residues into biochar—a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to traditional charcoal.
This innovative programme forms part of YEA’s broader mission to foster green jobs, reduce environmental pollution, and empower Ghana’s youth to build sustainable livelihoods through eco-friendly solutions. By providing training in the production of biochar, the Agency hopes to spark eco-conscious entrepreneurship and support the country’s shift toward a greener economy.
Eligibility criteria for the programme require applicants to be residents of the Greater Accra Region, aged between 18 and 35, and willing to establish a business upon completion of the training. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply online at apply.yea.gov.gh, with the application deadline set for Friday, 17th October 2025.
According to the YEA, this initiative marks a significant step in merging youth empowerment with environmental sustainability, paving the way for viable opportunities in Ghana’s expanding green sector.
