Ghanaian blogger Eugene Osafo Nkansah aka Nkonkonsa has offered an apology to his wife, Victoria Lebene, for making her a laughing stock in public. Although he commended Shatta Wale and his team for the initiative, Arnold maintained on GhanaWeb TV’s entertainment review show Bloggers’ Forum that his expectations were not met. Shatta Wale who had been off the scene for close to a month returned with an encounter dubbed ‘State of the Industry Address’ on June 2. Aside from updating his followers on his journey to the United States, the musician claimed that during one of his meetings, he was asked “what kind of music do Ghanaians do?” but was unable to provide an answer to the question as a result of the many genres being championed by artistes in the Ghanaian music sphere. “I want to propose that, we as music makers and stakeholders come together to identify one genre that can be attributed to all music works coming from our part of the world. Let’s do this for our industry to give it the global attention we have all desired,” he said while advocating for a national agenda to prioritize Ghanaian music on the airwaves. “I want to propose the institution and enforcement of a national agenda to prioritize Ghanaian music on our airwaves. Let’s give Ghana music 90% of the airwaves and spread 10% for the other countries. For this proposition to work, we need all hands-on deck; media house owners, DJs, event organizers, MUSIGA, and every single stakeholder including the government of Ghana. This must be a national agenda. Let’s all get involved now to make it happen.” But Arnold mentioned in his submission that Shatta Wale could have done better with his speech. “I was not too impressed with the address because if you’re telling me you’re going to address industry-related matters, it should be detailed, it should be thorough. All he did was to give us problems and not proffer solutions,” he told host Abrantepa. “You want us to decentralized major event; which events are you talking about? You want us to set an agenda to play 90% Ghanaian music; how do we do it? You want 10% of what is invested in sports to be invested in music; how do we go about it? Has he done any research to figure out if there’s some benefit coming from sports to government? “He said we need an identity with respect to the music genre that we do; what genre? If you’re coming to give state of the industry address, it should be well-researched. You should give us a detailed analysis, empirical evidence and move ahead to proffer solutions,” Arnold added. A video going viral on social media has shown moment a coffin was being carried to a house with the pallbearers clamming the deceased has refused to be buried and instead, was leading to the house of the person who allegedly killed her. In a video shared by Sierraloaded, a group of men were seen carrying a coffin while purportedly being led to the entrance of a house by a strange force. Witnesses said the deceased is a victim of ritual murder in Kent Village, and the house it was entering was alleged to be that of the ritualist that murdered her. Argument over unwashed Ramadan bowl sparks street fight at Ashaiman
Argument over an unwashed Ramadan bowl temporally turned the street near the Ashaiman main market into a “Bukom Boxing Area,” as two street hawkers exhibit their boxing talents with hefty punches. The ugly scene caused temporal vehicular and pedestrian traffic as most people who have been denied the opportunity to watch boxing due to COVID-19 either slowed-down their cars or even stopped to catch a glimpse of the action. The two-street boxers choose a strategic location conducive for boxing, the passing lane in between the dual carriageway which connects the roundabout, creating a resemblance of a boxing ring and aggressively traded the punches. Eye witness told inquisitive, Ghana News Agency Tema team was manoeuvring the area that the two boxers were friends who sell windscreen wipers. An argument ensued between them which moved from various stages with other hawkers serving as mediators but the two kept their rigid positions, refusing to allow peace to prevail and eventually entered the boxing area to settle it. The fight eventually ended when some pedestrians and hawkers lashed them with cane and belt, the intensity of the beatings forced them to abandon their street boxing. Intriguingly Mohammed Ali one of the fighters, not the legendry Boxing Hero explained to the GNA Tema team after the fight adjudged it a draw that on the day of the celebration of the holy feast “Eid Fitr,” that his friend the other boxer run away after consuming the food without washing the bowl”. He said all attempts to get him wash the bowls proved futile, which laid the foundation for the intermittent argument between them since then and eventually leading to the fight. Royalties: Leave the church alone – Patience Nyarko to GHAMRO
Gospel Musician Patience Nyarko has kicked against an intention by the Ghana Music Right Organisation (GHAMRO) to take royalties from churches for the use of music for services. GHAMRO said it is putting in place measures for churches to pay for any musical works used during service. Apart from churches, the music rights organisation also want to go after commercial transport owners who have entertainment systems in their cars. Kicking against the move on CTV’s entertainment show, The Showbiz, Patience Nyarko said the move on churches is wrong because gospel musicians have no original songs but record songs belonging to the churches. The Obi Nyanime hitmaker told show host Kojo Preko Dankwa that if the churches ask gospel musicians to stop recording or singing their songs or even ask every musician that has commercially recorded songs belonging to the church to pay royalties to them, that money will be so huge that the gospel musicians cannot pay. “So, please, they should leave the churches alone,” Ms Nyarko stated. She noted that taking royalties from the church will mar the relationship between gospel musicians and the churches. She, however, agreed with the move to charge transport owners royalties for the music they enjoy in their cars. “I agree with the transport bit because there are many cars in Ghana. If each car should pay GHS5 every year just like they pay for roadworthy certificates, GHAMRO can do a lot for musicians to be comfortable but they should leave the church alone,” she stressed.
