The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has said the New Patriotic Party cannot win the 2024 elections with the same faces taking the country to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a financial bailout. Engaging Party members at the ongoing NPP National Constituency Officers Welfare workshop at Koforidua in the Eastern Region Friday, Mr. Agyapong expressed disgust about the move by the government to seek a bailout from the IMF. “You are sitting here and you are smiling. IMF? What are we going to say again? Somebody texted me that I shouldn’t say anything about the IMF, I shouldn’t say anything about IMF? I will say it”. “Going into IMF is just like giving over power to NDC without a contest straightaway. Because the noise makes and I chew my own words back when I said NDC Went to IMF because of their mismanagement of the country or the economy”. “So, if NPP is going to IMF what am I going to say again? So, breaking the 8 is going to be tough. You cannot use the face of those who took us to IMF to break the 8, I won’t work. My message to you is simple, you cannot read my lips, and am not scared of anybody in the party, I will tell you the gospel truth.” Those who take you to IMF, those same faces cannot break the 8. A word to the wise is enough. I am very very sad today, when I saw the publication that we are going to IMF. You know, that is what Mahama was praying for and he has gotten his wish. It will not be easy, it will take hard work. So, prepare ourselves knowing there is a task ahead of us, and therefore, is only unity that will make sell through breaking the 8. 2022 Budget: Kennedy Agyapong returns in Parliament to take part in the controversial budget approval
Information reaching this platform has it that Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central Member of Parliament who has traveled to the country for sometime now has arrived in Ghana Parliament to take part in the controversial 2022 budget budget approval. Both caucuses of the House are gathering their members ahead of the vote to defend their positions. Reports say the Majority side is still expecting Dome-Kwabenya MP Adwoa Safo who is also in the United States to return before the ballot. The Minority have threatened they will vote against the budget because over the E-levy which is aimed at taxing Mobile Money transfers. Earlier Speaker Alban Bagbin has suspended sitting as a result of the absence of NPP MPs in the House. Members of Parliament from the governing NPP failed to show up for Friday’s sitting where the House is expected to conclude the debate on the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government for the year ending 31st December, 2022. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs contend the move is because the Majority side does not have the full complement of their members for the impending decision on the government’s Economic Policy. The Minority through Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam George had accused the Majority Caucus of deliberately delaying proceedings with their absence from the chamber as of midday Friday. However, the Majority Chief whip, Frank Annor Dompreh, however refuted the claim by the Minority explaining that his side had been locked up in a caucus meeting as well as leadership meeting with the Speaker. But, when the Speaker entered the Chamber at 16 minutes past 1:00pm, only the Minority MPs were present. The development compelled the Speaker to suspend sitting after the Deputy Minority Whip, Ibrahim Ahmed, raised the issue of the absence of the Majority Leadership in spite of their presence in the precincts of Parliament. New judge takes over Anas’ GHC25m defamation suit against Ken Agyapong
Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ GHc25M defamation suit against Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has been assigned to a new judge. After watching the “Who Watches the Watchman” Documentary in court on July 4, 2021, lawyers of Anas were expected to subject the MP to further cross-examination on the case today. But, in court on Monday, November 1, Justice Gifty Agyei Addo has now been assigned to the case and takes over from Justice Eric Baah. Lawyers of Anas who were present in court were also informed that Mr. Agyepong had earlier written to the court that he was out of the jurisdiction. Lawyers of Anas wondered why they were not copied in the said letter but the court showed them a copy. The case was adjourned to December 1, 2021. Lawyers of ace investigative Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on, July 5, 2021, commenced the cross-examination of the Member of Parliament after watching “Who Watches the Watchman” Documentary. The Documentary though already in the public domain, was only watched in court by the parties directly involved in the case together with the judge. Earlier Cross-examination At the last court sitting on June 29, under cross-examination on his written statement, Ken Agyepong told the court that, the Salis newspaper brought him the video and according to them, it was recorded as far back as 2010. According to him, they brought it to him around 2018, when Kwesi Nyantakyi was accused by the plaintiff that Nyantakyi was corrupt during his tenure GFA boss. Though agreed with counsel that, per his own admission he cannot testify to the authenticity of the content of the exhibits Who Watches the watchman, he explained that, “I can testify because, I did further investigations before, I showed the video.” He said, the first video was recorded in Lagos Town in Accra and the second one was recorded in a prosecutor’s office. ‘The first video ‘KOA1’ and is titled ‘Who Watches The Watchman’. It happened in Lagos Town in Accra when the plaintiff was trying to extort money from a group of fraudsters who had gone to defraud a man who wanted to buy gold. “The second one was the plaintiff talking to a prosecutor in the said case how to destroy the case by giving the prosecutor $5k and also claimed to have given money to the CID Head,” he explained. He further told the court that, ‘I’m not the author, but when I saw the video, I did my own investigations by calling some people in the video. I called Aziz and he confirmed that Yes, the meeting did happen at Lagos Town. Aziz further came on air to admit that it was true. I called the current EOCO director who was then the CID Director that the plaintiff mentioned in the video that he has given him (CID Director) money. So after the check then we showed the video. I admit that I’m not the author but I did my investigations to authenticate the truth in that video. “My Lord, simply put, I was told and also saw the video to support what the Salis Newspaper told me. They have a video, that is what has been tendered in,” he noted. Background Sometime in 2018, the ace international investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas dragged the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, to court for defaming him. Anas was asking the High Court to award aggravated damages to the tune of GH¢25 million arising from defamatory materials published by the MP. He said, the MP had been publishing materials in his bid to discredit the investigative journalist, who had released an explosive piece on the rot in Ghana football. Displeased with the MP’s actions, Anas has, through his lawyer, Mr Kissi Agyebeng, sued Mr Agyapong for the award of general damages for defamation in the defendant’s publications. A journalist, Mr. Listowell Yesu Bukarson, has been granted the lawful attorney to stand in for Anas. Publications The publication complained of are a May 29, 2018, live programme in Twi on Adom TV, where Mr Agyapong categorically stated that Anas was a blackmailer, corrupt, extortionist, and evil. According to the statement of claim, the defendant, in a similar manner, published defamatory words on May 31, 2018 via Oman FM, a private radio station owned by the defendant. The statement of claim also stated that the defendant published more defamatory materials against the plaintiff via other platforms to the extent of releasing pictures purported to be those of the investigative journalist in his bid to blow the latter’s cover. —Starrfm Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Suhuyini to testify against Ken Agyapong on Monday
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mr Joseph Osei Wusu has said the Member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhassan Suhuyini who petitioned the Speaker against his colleague lawmaker for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong will appear before the Privileges Committee to testify. Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Thursday July 23, the Bekwai lawmaker said the matter will be heard as if it is a court trying an accused person. “It is a member (Alhassan Suhuyini) of the House who petitioned the Speaker so it is the petitioner who will appear before us. If the petitioner decides that he needs somebody else to assist him to prosecute his case, why not. “Remember that when it comes to the privileges committee, it is more or less a trial so our process is no different from the court. “Whatever or however you put your case, you will be guided by the rules of the house, nothing else. “A committee of parliament is only a committee of parliament , we make recommendations to the House so yes, under the rules of parliament whichever recommendations that are permissible under the rules can be made by the committee, decisions are made by the committee.” Meanwhile Mr Suhuyini has said he felt obliged to raise the issues against his colleague Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong on the floor of the House because of his background as a journalist. This comes after the Speaker Alban Bagbin has referred Mr Agyapong to the Privileges Committee of Parliament for his utterances against a journalist with the Multimedia Group, Erastus Asare Donkor. Mr Agyapong on Friday, July 9, is reported to have allegedly threatened to attack Mr Asare Donkor, “for the journalistic work that the latter undertook during the recent shootings and killing incident at Ejura” on his television station. The Multimedia Group filed a formal complaint against Mr Agyapong. On Wednesday July 14, Alhassan Suhuyini raised the issue on the floor of the house and asked the Speaker to refer the matter to the Privileges Committee. He said “Mr Speaker, I think that as a former journalist I feel obliged to draw the House’s attention to this conduct of an Honorable colleague of this house which in my view, brings this house into disrepute. “Mr Speaker, I urge you to exercise your powers under 27 and refer this conduct of the Honorable which is becoming unacceptable, to the Privileges Committee to ascertain the veracity of the comments that were made and recommend sanctions if possible that will act as deterrent to other members who may be tempted to act like him.” In response to his request, the Speaker accordingly referred Mr Agyapong to the committee. He said he cannot take a decision on Mr Agyapong over his utterances against a journalist in Ghana. That decision to determine whether or not the conduct smacks of abuse of privileges, he said, rests with the lawmakers as a House, to take. “As it is now, I am compelled to refer it to the Privileges Committee. I want to emphasize that it is the House that will take the decision, it is not the speaker, it is not any other person apart from the House. “That will be your collective wisdom that come to the conclusion whether what is alleged is just a mere allegation or is supported by facts and whether those facts constitute contempt of the House and abuse of a privilege of members. “It is important for me to emphasize here that the privilege and immunity of free speech applies in full force in plenary session and committee sessions, not when members are outside debating issues or on radio and TV. You don’t have that right, that privilege, that immunity to just say anything because you are a member of parliament. “We are not above the law. It is for good reasons because you represent a large number of people, you should be given the full immunity to be able to say what the people say they want you to say. That is why you say it here and you are covered. “That immunity doesn’t extend to you in anywhere else. So pleased the committee should go into the matter, submit the report.” —3news Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Contact: 05555568093

Ken Agyapong cuts sod to build cardio centre at 37 Military Hospital
Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has cut sod for the construction of an 80-bed Cardiothoracic Centre at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. The Centre will have a Cardiothoracic Training Centre and Conference Room, VVIP Clinic, 3 operating theatres, an Intensive Care Unit, Executive Clinic, Dialysis Unit, X-Ray unit, Robotics Unit, Pharmacy and an Out-Patients Department among other essential units. Currently, the 80-year-old hospital refers all cardiothoracic cases to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for treatment. The sod-cutting ceremony is a follow-up on a promise made by Mr Agyapong in 2020 when he presented some personal protective equipment to the facility in response to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in Ghana. The Chief of Defence Staff, Seth Amoama, in his opening remarks, said the MP’s gesture was magnanimous, adding that the project was one of great significance to healthcare delivery. Mr Agyapong, who is the Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, expressed his contentment about the attention the project has received so far. He said upon thorough research, he realised the need for such specialised healthcare in the sub-region due to its rising population and the huge number of people who would require such specialised healthcare. Mr Agyapong said he chose the 37 Military Hospital due to the facility’s effort to deliver quality healthcare and its service to the nation. —Classfm Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications.
