‘Abayage said Akufo-Addo brought her to overthrow Adda’ – NPP supporters in Upper East

The feud between the faction of the Minister for Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda, and the camp of the Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, is rolling downhill as the pro-Adda group has quoted the Regional Minister in its latest outburst to have said she was tasked by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to bring Adda down. Adda was brought down in June, this year, when Abayage was drawn against the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Navrongo Central Constituency at a parliamentary primary election conducted by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and won. But Abayage’s quest to finish on the “2020 list of first female MP-elects” rather saw her added to “the 2020 list of MP-rejects” as she lost the main parliamentary election— by a “devastating” margin— to Samson Chiragia, the parliamentary candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). The faction in support of Adda and the pro-Abayage group were locked in an open vendetta before the primary election and have remained so even after the primary and the main elections. The statement attributed to Abayage— that she was assigned by President Akufo-Addo to topple the Aviation Minister— was parroted at a news conference convened in Navrongo on Monday in response to a presser organised last week against Adda by some electoral area coordinators and polling station executives of the party in support of Abayage. “What eventually broke the camel’s back was when a powerful delegation from the Navrongo Central Constituency went to the Jubilee House to pronounce that our Honourable MP, Joseph Kofi Adda, had lost touch with the grassroots supporters and that his popularity had dwindled to an extent that he could no longer retain the seat for the party. The proponents of this treacherous strategy went ahead and proposed Honourable Tangoba Abayage as a viable candidate for the party, claiming she was a unifier. “Tangoba herself stated on several occasions with her engagement with the media that she was brought by the President to unseat Joseph Kofi Adda. It is, therefore, unfortunate that we are trying hard to use a simple analysis to portray why we lost the 2020 general elections in the constituency when the factors are multifaceted,” Adda’s supporters said in a statement signed by the Pungu Central Electoral Area Coordinator for the NPP, Alan Kwesi Nazantra. “Produce evidence that Adda campaigned against NPP”— Adda’s group challenges Abayage’s camp The pro-Adda group also confronted the Regional Minister’s supporters at the conference with a strong demand to provide “true evidence” to substantiate an allegation they made last week that the outgoing MP waged a post-primary campaign against the NPP in the constituency in the buildup to the December 7 general elections. “The so-called group is made up of few electoral area coordinators and some polling station executives who were bought with money during the primaries and they sold their conscience to Madam Abayage, the constituency executive committee and the Municipal Chief Executive. They do not form half of the total number of the electoral area coordinators and polling station executives in the constituency.” “We are privy to an investigative piece by a journalist which indicates that the so-called video they tendered as evidence of Honourable Joseph Kofi Adda sponsoring the PPP’s parliamentary candidate with Gh¢5,000 and ballot samples was an orchestration by the First Vice Chairman of our party in Navrongo Central in an attempt to blackmail and malign Honourable Joseph Kofi Adda and we dare him to come out and deny it. “It is also blatant falsehood that Honourable Joseph Kofi Adda and his numerous supporters took to the streets of Navrongo to jubilate when Samson Tangombu Chiragia, the NDC candidate, was declared winner, and again we challenge them to come out with evidence. Honourable Joseph Kofi Adda never campaigned against the NPP in Navrongo Central and we challenge them to come out with evidence. It can be recalled that shortly after Honourable Joseph Kofi Adda’s defeat in the parliamentary primaries, he made it clear he was not ready to campaign together with people who were calling him all sorts of names and rained insults on him. His only campaign message in the constituency was ‘Four more for NPP to do more’. We have evidence of Honourable Kofi Adda campaigning vigorously in the Chiana-Paga Constituency for the party. He also supported five other constituencies in the Upper East Region,” the statement, read by Gilbert Baase, said. “Politics of Segregation cost us the Seat”— Adda’s supporters Adda’s camp said the seat slipped from the NPP back to the NDC owing to what they described at the conference as “politics of segregation” and some other factors. “One would have thought that after the primaries, the patrons and elders of the party in the constituency would have apologised to the elephant family for their irresponsible acts to pave way for reconciliation among party supporters but this did not happen. Arrogance, complacency and politics of segregation became the order of the day. News of ‘we will win the election with or without Team Honourable Adda’ started flying in town. “Constituency executives, who under normal circumstances are supposed to be referees, eventually requested for jerseys and got involved in the actual game. Again, patrons and elders, who under normal circumstances would have served as a jury of appeal for aggrieved teams, also got the euphoria and decided to take part in the game. Almost all the constituency executives as well as patrons and elders were seen campaigning for Honourable Tangoba before the primaries and we have evidence to that effect,” affirmed the statement. It added: “It is high time we all assessed our individual contributions towards this humiliating defeat and go back to the drawing board or else what awaits us in 2024 will be more than this. We must blame ourselves for giving out the seat so cheaply to the NDC. It is clear that the leadership of the party in the constituency failed us, thus the need for a total change. The situation in the Navrongo Central Constituency is deteriorating and needs an immediate attention.” In attendance also were other

NPP supporters urged to celebrate after Akufo-Addo’s swearing-in

The National Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku, has urged the teeming supporters of the party and Ghanaians to jubilate after the swearing-in of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but should not be oblivious of the ‘huge’ task ahead. Mr. Awuku said the task ahead would be working hard to regain the parliamentary seats lost in the December 7 elections so that the NPP can remain the Majority in Parliament. The NPP National Executive Committee made these sentiments known in an interview with Onua TV’s 100 Degrees hosted by Kwame Tutu on Monday, December 28. “We should be happy about the majority in Parliament and the winning of the presidential slot but we should go back and work to regain the lost seats. We should be happy after the swearing-in of Nana Addo.” Mr. Awuku said “we shall regain all our lost seats because going into the elections, we knew we were going to face a lot of challenges. Some, we were able to solve, some, there was nothing we could do but the good news is that we did not go home with Minority”. Investigations He urged the party faithful to be calm because the party is investigating what led to the loss of some seats in the elections. “I can assure millions of NPP supporters we are launching investigations into why we lost.” He said “we expected to have won with so many votes. We set a target for ourselves but we all know the year has been a challenge globally and Ghana was not an Island”. Mr. Awuku explained that “we lost some and we gained some”. 3 News Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Contact: 0555568093.

We are about to expose the fraud that took place in December 7–Abraham Amaliba

A member of the NDC legal team Abraham Amaliba has revealed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is proceeding to court with the target of exposing the fraud that took place during the December 7, 2020, general elections. Mr. Amaliba who spoke to Ngamegbulm Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com in an exclusive interview said, the decision came as a result of the work which was concluded by the audit team put together by the party to check through the anomalies and malpractices and some violation of the country electoral laws in the December 7. “Well, you know our flag bearer has rejected the election result and after that, he put together an audit team made of Lawyers, statisticians, accountants to audit the pink sheet. That work is concluded and that work has resulted in the NDC through some anomalies, malpractices, and some violations of our electoral laws. So, the party then took a decision that they want to go to court and have resorted a legal team to do so.” He believes, the court is the only place to address issues such as election disagreement for the benefit of the doubt and in the radio station, trotro, or in a market place. The reason they will be going to court to present their case in a few days to come. “In the first place, we are going to court, to expose the fraud that took place during the 7th December elections. It is important we do that because, there are people who still doubt our claims that this election was stolen and the only place to do that is in the court not in the radio stations, not on trotros, and not on the market. That is why we are going to court. “However, Mr. Amaliba is confident that going to court, will give more confidence to the party followers who voted for NDC and as well give them the impression that the party has made efforts in fighting for their votes. “We think that if we go to court those who voted for us some of whom are not card bearing member of the NDC would be satisfied in their minds that the NDC have tried to protect their vote and so next when we are going for election, they will definitely come along with us. The rest we will leave it to the court to judge whether or not that will mean that the NPP Akufo Addo didn’t win the election. As for the court decision, we have no control over it, but we will go and present our case strongly to the court.” Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Election 2020: NDC files petition to challenge results at Supreme Court on December 30

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will go to court on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, to start the process to challenge the Presidential and Parliamentary election results. This was disclosed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi constituency and a member of the Legal team of the NDC, Rockson-Nelson Este Kwami Dafeamekpor. “Certainly, we (NDC) are going to court. This coming Wednesday, it should be done,” he told Accra-based Joy News. The date for the start of the legal process will be the last day of the 21 days an aggrieved political party has to file a legal challenge. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor who made this known on Accra-based Joy News said there is the perception that the NDC is more focused on the Parliamentary elections than the Presidential. But that is not true because the party needs to prepare itself very well in order to be able to challenge the Presidential election, that is why the focus has not been placed on it but the political party will challenge the Presidential results. He indicated that regardless of the fact that the party will be heading to court, it’s nationwide protests will continue unabated because it’s also a legal way of drumming home the need for the right things to be done. UER: Avoiding those who worked for the Party could be a factor for our defeat– Boniface Gambila

The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nabdam constituency of the Upper East Region and the 2020 Party Parliamentary candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party Boniface Gambila has told Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com that one of the reasons the NPP lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7, election in the region, could also be as a result of the party avoiding those who suffered to bring the party to power. Speaking exclusively to Apexnewgh.com on December 17, 2020, said those who oppose the party during the 2016 general election were rather considered given job opportunities whereas those who suffered to bring the party to power were avoided and sidelined even though they equally have good and better qualifications to enable them to acquire same positions. He believes, these are some of the reasons the party lost massively in the Upper East Region which had resulted in Upper East losing the 3 seats the party already suffered for in 2016. “You are going to create jobs, after creating the jobs, those who fought for you, you didn’t put them in the job and you end up putting those opposing you onto the jobs. Meanwhile, those who fought for you and the party also have good qualifications, they are strong and very loyal to you and you leave them out of the jobs and those who fought because they also have qualifications even though some don’t really have better qualifications and yet because once you put one of them, he pulls the others. So, they have their various groups. These are real facts.” Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Contact: 05555568093.

THE NDC HAS NO CASE; DON’T JOIN THEIR DEMONSTRATION-PART 1—Aziz Adam Kobilla

In 2016, the then EC chairperson and the returning officer of the 2016 presidential elections, Madam Charlotte Osei declared the outcome of the polls without four constituencies; Afram Plains North, Upper West Akim, Sawla Tuna Kalba and Tamale Central. These four constituencies have a combined voter population of 220,270. Madam Charlotte Osei declared the results of the two main parties as follows: Nana Akufo Addo (NPP)= 5,716,026 (53.85%) John Mahama (NDC)=4,713,277 ( 44.40%) This yielded a difference of 1,002,749 ( 9.45%) between the two main contenders. Madam Charlotte Osei explained that the votes of the four constituencies left out in the declaration is immaterial no matter their outcome to the Presidential polls hence the reason she went ahead to declare the results without them. The gazetted results ( NPP and NDC) for the 2016 presidential polls were later published as follows: Nana Akufo Addo (NPP)=5,773,299(53.6%) John Mahama (NDC)=4,800,737(44.6%) Difference =972,562. Fast forward, this year, the EC under a new boss and returning officer, Madam Jean Mensah declared H E President Nana Akufo Addo the winner of the 2020 presidential elections without Techiman South Constituency. The results declared for the two main contenders are as follows; Nana Akufo Addo( NPP)=6,730,413 (51.595%) John Mahama (NDC)=6,214,889(47.366%) With a difference of 515,524 between the winner and his closest contender. According to Madam Jean Mensah, Techiman South Constituency has a total voter population of 128,018 and so if all these votes were added to the votes of the second contender it cannot cancel out the excess votes ( 515,524) between the winner and his closest contender. She further stress that in as much as the percentages will alter if such a situation happens but the winner as she declared would have obtained 50.8% which is beyond the required percentage to triumph in any presidential election as posited by the constitution of the republic of Ghana hence the reason she went ahead with the declaration. It is important to note that this article sort to address two issues as being advanced by the leadership of the NDC that resulted in the incessant demonstration we are seeing on our streets on daily basis by supporters of the NDC. Point 1: the NDC argued that why will EC declare the 2020 presidential polls minus the Techiman South Constituency? This argument appears sensible but in actual sense it is deceptive. It is important to remind the NDC and ourselves that the 2016 presidential election was declared without FOUR CONSTITUENCIES as established above but it was accepted by all. Drawing from the above experiences, what the two EC bosses-cum-returning officers sort to educate us is that declaration of results can be done with some outstanding figures provided those figures outstanding cannot significantly alter the declared results. Mathematically, in the case of 2016 if all the 220,270 votes from the four constituencies that were outstanding were added to the votes of the second contender in this case John Mahama it wouldn’t have been enough to offset the over 1 million votes difference between Nana Akufo Addo and John Mahama. Moreover, Nana Akufo Addo percentage would have still remained above the over 50% + 1 votes. Similarly, if all the 128,018 votes from the Techiman South Constituency is added to John Mahama during the just ended 2020 polls it cannot cancel out the 515,524 votes difference between Nana Akufo Addo and John Mahama and Nana Akufo Addo will maintain a percentage higher than 50% +1 votes. This means waiting or not waiting for the outstanding results from the four constituencies and Techiman South Constituency as in the case of 2016 and 2020 respectively is of no significance to the declared results hence the decision to forgo them to avoid unnecessary delay and further heightened tension in the country. Just like myself, any Mathematics student understands this phenomenon adequately. If your Mathematics is defective don’t just follow, consult a selfless Mathematician for advice. This is a science and data issue. If we are to be guided by some electoral experience. It will suffice to say that the assumption to allocate all results coming from the outstanding constituencies in the case of both 2016 and 2020 to one presidential candidate is untenable and should be discouraged as it is nearly impossible to make such assumption. It is untenable because these outstanding figure represents the total registered voters in those constituencies and our electoral experience reminds us that: 1. No constituency has ever recorded 100% voter turnout. 2. No constituency has given all its valid votes to just one candidate. This further supported the decisions taken by the respective returning officers of both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. Point 2: the NDC argued again that why did the EC declare the results with certain figures and gazetted the results with different figures? Again, this arguement is flawed because the EC did indicate before declaration that there are some figures yet to come from Techiman South Constituency. We were told this by the EC to bear in mind that the declared results is not final but reliable because the outstanding figures cannot vary the results significant enough to invalidate the declared results. Dear NDC supporters, your leaders are misleading you into doing the unthinkable don’t listen to them. It was a peaceful walk not a demonstration–NDC MPs

It was not as simple as expected at the Electoral Commission Headquarters in Accra when Minority members in parliament led by Hon. Haruna Iddrissu beseeched the EC’s Headquarters to present their petition.   Some of the MPs were seen dressed in a mourning black attire with their faces frowned which indicates how peeved they were, following the recent happenings in the country especially after the declaration result of the December 2020 general elections.  In an event which the Minority described as a peaceful walk to the Electoral Commission Headquarters to enable them to submit their petition, some of them were captured struggling themselves through the barricade as they were been pushed by the police but few of them later passed through the barricade and was able to penetrate.   However, some MPs described the situation as an unfortunate incident as they expressed dissatisfaction. according to them, they were surprised that police personnel was seriously preventing them not to submit their petition. During a protest in Tamale First Vice Chairman of the NDC, Chief Sofo Awudu Azorka said the NDC intends swearing in John Dramani Mahama as President on January 7.  Adding that the NDC believes that John Dramani Mahama is the legitimate President of Ghana and no human can change that. Meanwhile, the content of the petition is yet to be revealed the NDC has consistently said they do not accept the results of the just-ended polls which was used to declare Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as president.    Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/ Ngaemgbulam Chidozie Stepehen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. I will join the NDC demonstrate if there’s proof of rigging – NPP communicator

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s communication team, Padmore Baffour Agyapong has said that he will willingly join the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s demonstrations for EC to overturn the election results if only the party is able to present evidence that the election was rigged in favour of the ruling NPP. In a panel discussion on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he said: “If the NDC presents evidence that shows that the election was rigged, I will join the NDC to demonstrate. That is if they present evidence to convince me that the election was rigged for NPP. “Convince me with the data. But so far you have not given any evidence to convince me that the figures presented by the Electoral Commission were wrong. The EC has published all the sixteen regions’ results but which of the region has been contested by the NDC along with the pink sheets? That is how you convince people to go on the streets to demonstrate. But you don’t convince people to go on the street on the basis of ‘we are still looking into it but we have been cheated’ narrative”. Padmore was insistent that even if the NDC is able to present numbers different from that collated by the EC, it had to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the numbers they have are really the true numbers and not concocted. Last week, hundreds of supporters of the National Democratic Congress stormed the Electoral Commission’s head office demanding that the Commission declared John Mahama as the President-elect. But what started as a peaceful protest turned violent when the supporters blocked the Accra-Kanda section of the road and set lorry tyres ablaze.
