Navrongo Central Constituency Member of Parliament Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has extended another interesting question to the Upper East Regional Mr. Yakubu Stephen. Apexnewsgh.com report The Navrongo Central legislator who had already registered some level of displeasure following the controversies and delay witnessed sofar in the much touted Upper East Regional airport from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC MP is asking the Upper East Regional Minister ‘weather he is waiting for the E-levy killer tax to build the airport?’. However, Mr. Tangombu Chiragia has thrown a challenge to the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu to make himself available for a solid debate on what development they claimed the NPP government has provided for the region for the past 5 years. “Let him know am prepared to debate him. If he is a man who claimed there are development projects in the region, I will let everyone understand there was none in the region. I am ready to debate him. He should tell me the project government is bringing to the region and what they have done for the 5 years. “He shouldn’t be talking about the Tono Dam, the NDC started it. They should tell us the whole region. The Pwalungu Multi-purpose dam is lying down there, not even a wheelbarrow is there. We don’t know where the contractor is. So, is not about talking, is about what to do. He concluded However, the Member of Parliament is patiently waiting to engage the Upper East Regional Minister in what he described as developmental debate. Tell us why no single person from Upper East is a cabinet Minister—Navrongo MP
The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Constituency Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has questioned the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu why out of 19 to 21 cabinet Ministers in Akufo-Addo’s administration no single person is representing the people of Upper East –Apexnewsgh.com Report According to Mr. Tangombu Chiragia: “This clearly shows that his none performing President who does not see Upper East Region as part of Ghana”. His question came after the regional minister had responded to his position on the 2022 budget where he complained that the budget could not even capture the controversial Upper East airport, which he believes is inconveniencing the people of the region and more especially he as a parliamentarian who always love to travel home every weekend. According to the Regional Minister in his response: “If an MP is in Accra, saying he wants to come home every weekend to see his constituents but because there is no airport he cannot come, I don’t think we should even vote for such Member of Parliament. However, the response by the Upper East Regional Minister has triggered the Navrongo Central Constituency legislator to throw another heavy wet question to the father of the region. “Why is it that we have almost 19 to 21 cabinet ministers and we have 16 regions, why is it that Upper East Region is not having even a cabinet minister? We don’t have a cabinet minister in Nana Addo’s government and he doesn’t regard us”. Navrongo MP asked “So, for that matter, who is going to carry issues across? He is the Regional Minister, his constituency is the region, my constituency is Navrongo Central, and his party is in power, and is their responsibility to do something for us, and he should not be dodging his responsibilities. “The last time, that was the same mistake he made, he said there were going to be airport located where? NO, he talked about the aerodrome which he said going to in Navrongo, that one is already known. What we are saying is that, before you can talk about the airport, where are you locating it? Where are you building it? You have not made the land preparation and you have 3 years to go and you are telling us you are going to get two airports when? We need the airport now. He insisted “Not about me coming home, I come home alright but what am saying is that I have business in Accra and definitely, I will close some times and run into the night. I can come and land in Tamale sometime with the last flight. If there were to be an airport in Upper East Region when i land i can even take a bicycle and go”. He explained “But here is the situation, how can you land in Tamale around 6:30 to 7:00 Pm then drive 3 to 4 hours before you get home? Then, that’s even better. When you are going back to Parliament and you want to go with last flight and you are leaving Upper East, it means you have to leave home around 4:00 Pm and if you are not lucky and get a breakdown on the road, what do you do? He shouldn’t run away from his responsibility. He knows very well I don’t have access to his Oldman who is there wasting our time, even he himself doesn’t have access to his old because he goes there, he can only talk to the Chief of Staff and comeback. He is not even regarded, he is only here to represent something. If he claimed he is a darling boy to the President he should make him a cabinet minister so that he can talk for Upper East. “Upper East is the only region we have, no one should be joking with the region that is our country and our capital, we come from there and we can never change”. “He should lead a legacy so that tomorrow, he can say he was a minister he was able to bring us airport. We don’t care where the airport is located, they can send it to Fumbisi, and they can send it to even Pwalungu it doesn’t matter anymore. UER: Upper East Regional Minister responds to Navrongo MP- says Airport isn’t an excuse not to visit home often
The Upper East Regional has responded to the Navrongo Central Member of Parliament Sampson Tangombu Chiragia after he complained of wanting to come home every Friday but can’t due to the unavailability of an Airport in the region. Apexnewsgh.com reports According to the Navrongo Central Member of Parliament during an exclusive interview on the 2022 budget with Apexnewsgh.com, he said not even the controversial Upper East airport was captured in the 2022 Budget, which to him, he saw as very worrying especially with the difficulty the people of Upper East go through from Tamale before getting into the region. He appealed to the government to do something by starting the construction of the Airport for the people of the region. “As for this NPP budget, not even only constituency alone benefitted anything, I will say the whole region was neglected. If you look at the budget, there is nothing there for Upper East Region. We will continue to talk even our airport, is not easy driving from Tamale to Bolga at all”. He lamented He said MPs would always want to come back home every Friday to visit their constituents and return to Accra Monday but because there is no available airport for the region, it makes impossible. “We are saying that in fact, they should be able to do something in such that, we can also go home every Friday and come back on Monday. We don’t mind whichever part of the region they are putting the airport for us, even if they go and put it in Garu, it will still be better than going to Tamale and traveling all the way to Navrongo. However, reacting to the Navrongo MP, the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu said, if the MP cannot sacrifice for his people he doesn’t deserve their votes as an MP. “If an MP is in Accra, saying he wants to come home every weekend to see his constituents but because there is no airport he or she cannot come, I don’t think we should even vote for such Member of Parliament. Because such MP should be fighting for me and you to make sure there is an airport here. He should rather come back and sit in the region and those who are will fight for the airport will be allowed to go to parliament”. The Minister stated The Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu gave the rebuttal on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, during a press soiree organized by the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC). 2022 Budget full of Killer levies and taxes–Sampson Tangombu Chiragia
The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has described the E-transaction-Levy captured in the 2022 budget as a killer levy that is centered on a common person. The Navrongo legislator made the revelation during an exclusive interview with Apexnews-Ghana on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, the Navrongo Central legislator said, the region was neglected. According to the MP, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not against the tax because no country will develop without tax. But they are concerned about the innocent common person on the street struggling to get 3 square meals a day but are forced to pay what he described as a lot of levy and taxes’ Tangombu Chiragia further pointed that, they are not against Ofori-Atta coming to read the budget, because a budget is an estimate of what is supposed to be done for the development of this country. He explained, “…the issues we think the budget is not going to help a common person and as a social democratic party. You can understand that the budget is targeted to the common person and our aim is normally looking at the gap between the poor and the rich, but this particular budget is poorly centered. That’s why we are saying that there are certain issues that should be resolved so that, we can have the budget approved”. “Actually, there are a lot of taxes are centered on the common person, if you remember the 2022 budget, they were a lot of tax including borla tax and that is why today, the borla taxes are very high because of a number of taxes involved. The actual fuel price is not like we see it today but mostly about 42 to 48 percent are taxes, Ghanaians have already been taxed a lot. “Nobody is against tax, because without tax we cannot develop, but the taxes are a lot. The current Budget as we are talking about, if you look it very well, the benchmark values which we are all enjoying the discount of 50% at the port, they are withdrawing it. If they withdraw the benchmark it now means that all the cost of goods and services brought into this country will go back by a certain percentage. Because, if you are paying Ghc 50.00 for goods brought into this country, with the withdrawal of the benchmark you are now going to pay Ghc 100.00 and that will be passed to the common person and there are some other hidden taxes that people are not aware of”. “Before they came to power, the wholesalers and retailers are paid VAT flat. When you are a flat-rate taxpayer, it means that you pay only a cooperate levy of 1%, a flat rate taxpayer doesn’t pay GETFund levy and Health Insurance Levy totaling 5%. So, if they are moving you from a flat rate to a standard rate, it means you are now coming to pay the levy as high as 6%. So, those wholesalers and retailers whose annual income is more than 500.000 will have to pay the levies of 6% before VAT is put on top and NPP people think they are very wise. They don’t talk about tax, they talk about levies. “E-Levy is a killer levy, Imagine you are a teacher or a civil servant and they have transferred you from Bolgatanga to Accra and your wife and children are all in Bolga. Then, at the end of the day, your salary is not even enough, the government increases your salary by 4% annually and that 4% percent of Ghc 3000.00 which is about Ghc 120.00 and you are sending chop money of Ghc 1000.00 to your wife in Bolga for upkeep, which means you have to pay 1.75 percent. So, you can see, you are paying the tax again on income and that is now even the final tax is a levy”. Upper East Region is neglected on the 2022 budget–Navrongo MP
The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has cried out loud, over what he sees as an empty 2022 budget for the people of Upper East Region. Apexnewsgh.com Report Speaking in an exclusive interview with Apexnews-Ghana on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, the Navrongo Central legislator said, the region was neglected. According to him, not even the controversial airport issue was mentioned in the 2022 Budget, which to him, he saw as very worrying especially with the difficulty the people of Upper East go through from Tamale before getting into the region. He appealed to the government to do something by starting the construction of the Airport for the people of the region. We are not seeing anything that is helping the region. These are the things we are looking at. If in the whole region there is no good project, how do you then talk of a constituency? Mr. Chiragia who described breast cancer as a silent killer said, the mass screening exercise ongoing across the Navrongo Constituency will help eliminate the deadly disease from his area. “Breast Cancer is a silent killer in our community, and you know the way our ladies are, they try to hide it and before you realized they are gone. And this is because is difficult for our women to expose their breast to men”. “So, when I realized the cancer is secretly killing our people, I decided to organize a breast cancer screening across the constituency for them”. “At least from now on, every year, we will try to do something like that. If the awareness is created, the ladies can go to any health center on their own for the screening”. “I lost my niece because of breast cancer somewhere last year and that also created awareness to me that there is something that can easily kill ladies”. Navrongo health centre 81 Gongnia 40 New market. 117 Total 238 Nyangua=62 Pungu North=70 Punyoro=86 Pungu south=125 Total screened=343 Manyoro =96 Natugnia=72 Yua =30 Gumongo=42 Total screened=240 Officials creating awareness on breast cancer: According to a report, the majority of women who die from breast cancer (324 000) live in low- and middle-income countries, where most women are diagnosed in late stages due to a variety of factors. These include limited awareness on the part of the public and health care providers, and the lack of access to timely, affordable and effective diagnosis and treatment. “Asking somebody to Pay Ghc 100.00 to access a code to apply for job is ‘robbery’ -Navrongo MP
The National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament (MP) for Navrongo Central of the Upper East Region Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has revealed that the security forms sold across the country, was an avenue by the government to raise funds for the construction of the controversial National Cathedral. Stressing that the NDC will demand accountability to what he described as ‘robbery’ going on within the security recruitments. The first time Navrongo MP in an interview with Apexnews Gh questioned why job application forms should be sold to Ghanaian youth interested in applying to become security men and women especially in the country he said, the cost of living is becoming very difficult. “We are all hot in Ghana, We need a solution, and the youth need jobs. We are pleading with the government that they should allow the old system to work, let the people apply and whoever qualifies you picked him or her. Why should somebody pay Ghc 100.00 to access a code and apply for a job? That alone is robbery. It is very bad for people to use the money to go and apply for a job that they are not even sure of getting. How many are the jobs and how many people have applied? We even have to hold the government to account for all the money they are taking from these poor boys. So, telling me I should give money from where? For the people to go and give the government to build a cathedral, then you are unfair to the MP” He said Mr, Chiragia also added, that the ongoing delay in the appointment of MMDCs is as a result of the broke economy which he thinks isn’t a hidden thing because the President himself is aware. “He should understand that it is business as usual. They are just going to mobilize money from the poor Ghanaians and go build a cathedral because they know the economy is broke. Nana Addo himself knows the economy is broke and that is why he cannot even appoint his DCEs because when they appoint DCEs, there will be pressure on them. Why should the people of Navrongo be looking for an NPP chairman to give them money? Because there is no DCE. They should fix the country and stop the nonsense”. He stated His response came after the Navrongo Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Anthony Spinoza Mensah demanded the MP should make available to address the need of Navrongo youth by supporting at least 500 -1000 with Ghc 100.00 each to enable them to purchase security recruitment forms. pexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. NDC MP for Navrongo Central Sampson Tangombu Chiragia and NPP Navrongo Central Constituency Chairman Anthony Spinoza Mensah
NAVRONGO: Stop your ‘Amariya Kule’ (hide and seek) lifestyle against the people of Navrongo, be visible -NPP Chairman to NDC MP
The Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo Central Constituency of the Upper East Region Anthony Spinoza Mensah has advised the NDC MP for Navrongo Central Sampson Tangombu Chiragia to stop his ‘Amariya Kule’ (hide and seek) lifestyle against his own people. According to Mr. Mensah, the Member of Parliament elect for Navrongo Central Mr. Chiragia popularly known as STC is doing what he describes as Amariya Kule (hide and seek) meaning he the MP is running away from his 2020 promises to the people of Navrongo. Mr. Mensah told Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnews Gh, that he as the Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party in the constituency now receive the pressure of addressing challenges bedeviling the ordinary youth of navrongo because he [Mensah] is seen more visible than the elected Member of Parliament who made a whole lot of empty promises to the youth and people of Navrongo. “He shouldn’t be like ‘Amariya kule’ he has won, he should come out, because he is supposed to work. He said, when he became an MP, he will let people join various services (Police, military, fire, and prison service) and now the people want to buy the form, at least he should give them money to buy the form. A form is Ghc 100.00, at least he can buy for 1000 or 500 people he can do that”. He said However, confirming the remarks by the NPP Constituency Chairman, Apexnews Gh sighted these few promises made by the now Navrongo Central Member of Parliament Sampson Tangombu Chiragia (STC) in June 2020 as part of his campaign messages to his people. However, responding to the call by the NPP Constituency Chairman, the ‘Amariya Kule’ Member of Parliament Mr. Chiragia as alleged by Mr. Mensah told Apexnews Gh that what he has witnessed so far, isn’t business as usual because the government of Akufo-Addo administration did not consider giving any protocol to the opposition MPs. He further accused the government of not releasing Common Fund for 4 quarters to enable him carry out most of his responsibilities as MP. “They don’t give protocol to opposition MPs, so what can opposition MP do? The Common Fund is in arrears for (4) four quarters. The government has not been able to appoint DCEs, the MP has no resources, is an opposition MP and the government has failed the people of Ghana for not releasing the Common Fund, making the whole hardship affecting everybody not me alone I cannot manufacture anything, I don’t hold the public purse is the government and if they leave government, he is the NPP Chairman who do they want the people to go to? He should give them the money because he also holds the money. DCEs are not in place, even if my Common Fund comes I can’t spend it and moreover the common Fund is not in. So, he cannot accuse the MP who cannot do anything”. He said Meanwhile, the MP further recounted some of his achievements so far in the constituency without any Common Fund. “He should understand that in my small way, I have been able to mobilize friends and they gave street lights, I have been able to organize computer training for 97 people, I have able to mobilize my friends to come and build a dressmaking center a capacity of 100 people to train them, I have sunk 7 boreholes without my Common Fund, that is what I have been able to do, the NPP Chairman is aware”. The MP recounts. Meanwhile, Mr. Mensah the NPP Constituency has argued that, when the MP was seriously making his promises to the people of Navrongo, he didn’t say he was going fullfill his promise based on the avalibilty of Common Fund. 1, “Let it reflect that when he the MP was promising he never said he was going to relay on common fund as a funding source. 2) Again the so called IT skilled, was targeted at University students who are computer illiterates . Now he the MP has brought the image of Navrongo down by training University students who are already computer literates . How can they be trained on the use of smart phones. 3) He should come home and make himself available to the masses”.
