As the governing New Patriotic Party holds the view that one of their flagship policies One Village One District (1V1D) is a blessing to the people of the Upper East Region, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region believes the policy is a curse as far as the region is concerned.
According to the NDC representative and a regional member of the communication team Jambeidu Mbawini Sadat, the government promised the people of the Upper East Region a dam, not a dugout. He described the 1V1D constructed so far in the region as “shoddy”
He spoke on the Apexnews Ghana programme dubbed “SPEAKOUT UPPER EAST” on Monday, September 12, 2022.
“In fact, this is a curse, not a blessing. I call it propaganda. My brother, let’s say, I promised to give you a flat-screen TV and later give you a matches box TV. Does it make sense? What they have done is not a dam is a dugout and what they have done is very shoddy and in fact, very pathetic. You don’t come to promise us something and give us another thing? It means that you are toiling with the emotions of the people and I can tell you on authority that in my community, they came and did that shoddy work they called a dam, and now that we are in the rainy season, you can go and see a little drop of water there. But after the rainy season somewhere in November or December come and you won’t see any water in it”.
Mr. Sadat said, doing such a shoddy job without any value for money, only gives the impression the government came in to loot the system.
If you know the amount of money they have paid these contractors, and in the end, we didn’t get value for money. If you are coming to govern people in this manner, you are only creating the impression that you only came to loot and share.
