The outgoing President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Naba Orlando Ayamga Awuni III, who doubles as the Paramount Chief of Naaga Traditional Area, has said President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo decision to seek a second term in office is appropriate and will be granted by his performance. Excited by the development projects undertaken by the President over the course of the last three and a half years, Naba Awuni III stated that “notable amongst the prominent projects are the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polimakom road under construction, the Pwalugu Multi-Purpose Dam, and the provision of ambulance service to all constituencies across the region.” Whilst acknowledging other projects “like educational infrastructure, agricultural improvement, and other social intervention policies”, the Chief recalled that, in 2017 President Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs where some specific demands on projects were made. “We are, therefore, grateful to know that those demands have been met. Your Excellency, the Ghanaian constitution debars us from taking part in active party politics” he said. The President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs continued, “As Chiefs, our role is peaking our mind on national issues. There is a thin line between partisan politics and speaking one’s mind or opinion on national issues. However, our tradition allows us to commend whoever does something good for you.” However, with two months to the holding of the December elections, the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs appealed to Government to ensure that peace prevails before, during and after the elections. “After all, we have on Ghana with a common destiny. We, of the Upper East Region House of Chiefs, are following the disturbing news in the Volta Region about Homeland Study Group who are advancing for succession, and wish to join our colleagues in the Volta Region to condemn the act as criminal and has the tendency to mar the peace and tranquility the people of Ghana enjoy,” he said. UER: Film Makers Association disappointed over President Akuffo Addo’s snub.
“Disgusted” and “disappointed” were just a couple of the words thrown around by an entertainment industry in the Upper East Region describing the action of President Akuffo Addo and the team during his tour of the Upper East Region. The Upper East Regional Film Makers Association was amazed and bemused after they were allegedly snubbed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo after an arrangement was reached and concluded to meet him. The President was said to have been bluntly prevented from addressing them in the presence of other members alleging that the government was not interested in what they were exhibiting. This took place at the forecourt of the Regional office of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC URA Radio) in Bolgatanga. The President on Thursday had a radio interview at GBC URA Radio before he could proceed to meet the Regional House of Chiefs. The group took that opportunity to meet the President at the GBC yard after the radio interview. However, their dreams of a good meeting with the President was shut. When the President came out from the studios, he waved at them, walked towards them but returned to his vehicle and left. “We came here to meet the President. We had an arrangement with the Party executives including the Chairman and the Regional Minister. We started this preparation three weeks back only to be treated this way today. In fact, we are disgusted and disappointed at the moment. The President just walked away without a minute to spare and listen to what we have for him.” Aminu Inusah lamented. The National founder of Film Makers for Nana, Richard Boateng expressed worry over what he described as a “jiggling and murmuring” moment for members in the industry as they walked home unhappy. He further expressed worry over the fact that “ the Upper East Regional members of the Film Makers Association invited me, booked a hotel for me, hired this stage mounted and spent money for event organizers to make this place beautiful only for us to be ignored.” Mr. Boateng wept. But speaking to the Regional Communications Director of NPP, Mr. Sanusi Issah said the initial arrangement was to meet the group at St. John’s Park in Bolgatanga. The Paramount Chief of Nangodi Naba Yelzoya Asaga II has shown appreciation of praises to the President of the Republic His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for his loyalty and respect to the chieftaincy institution in the country. The chief who was excited during the reading of his welcome address to the President narrated how President Akufo Addo has conducted himself anytime he had the opportunity to meet with him in Accra. “We are indeed grateful and deeply humbled to have you in our midst. Your presence is an excellent demonstration of your outstanding respect for the chieftaincy institution. I remember the first time I met you in Accra for a programme about illegal mining when you were entering, your agents wanted to receive you as President of who you are. Your general performance, is shambolic, abysmal and crummy– Talensi Constituency Secretary to NPP
The Secretary of the Opposition National Democratic Congress in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region Zinekena Solomon has registered some level of displeasure with the President and governing New Patriotic Party, especially with issues of Talensi developments and promises made the people of the Upper East Region. In a press statement released by the constituency Secretary on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, captured by Apexnewsgh.com, they constituency Secretary said, they as a party are not against President visiting of Namoalogo Dam, but they believes, the said dam does not fall squarely under the 1 Village 1 Dam (1V1D) policy per chapter 4, page 50 of the NPP 2016 manifesto. “The President cannot find time to visit one of such dams to commission it but rather seeks cover to inspect the progress of work of a project that does not fall squarely under the President’s flagship policy of 1V1D.” He further stated that for over a year now, no work is going on at the site of Pwalugu Multi-Purpose dam. Ladies and gentlemen of the media, you will recall that President Nana Addo on Friday, November 29, 2019, cut sod for the construction of the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam and Irrigation Project. In his speech at the sod-cutting ceremony, he stated categorically that the project ‘will be the single, largest investment ever made by any Government in the Northern sector of the country’. He also stated that ‘construction of the Dam will avert the perennial flooding caused by the spillage of the Bagre Dam’. Prior to the sod cutting, Vice President Bawumia on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at the Upper West Regional capital, Wa said that it will be the single, largest investment made by any Government in Northern Ghana since independence. Ladies and gentlemen, were these speeches made by President Nana Addo and his Vice their usual rhetoric and lip service speeches where walking the talk become a heavy barrier? If not, why is the President not visiting the site on his way to the Region since Pwalugu is the first community one will first meet when visiting the Upper East Region from Tamale? It is actually the gateway to the Region. It, however, beats the imagination of discerning Ghanaians why the President would abandon and desert a project he claims is the single, largest investment ever made by any Government in the Northern sector of the country. It is also insensitive and clueless on the part of the President to have ignored the project amidst the recent devastating flood in the Northern sector which has claimed several lives, rendered hundreds homeless, destroyed thousands of hectares of farms worth millions of Ghana Cedis, carried away several livestocks and broke culverts and bridges leading to stagnation of economic activities in the affected areas. We expected the President to place a higher priority on this project to avert the perennial flooding caused by the spillage of the Bagre Dam as he suggested in his sod-cutting speech. In the contrary, ladies and gentlemen, it is almost one solid year today, and there is absolutely nothing going on at the site. If it is not for DECEPTION, then, what is this?
