The Ghana Premier League transfer deadline day is upon us, with clubs looking to wrap up last-minute deals before the window slams shut at midnight. The window has been open since August. Some clubs have reportedly completed their deals are confident heading into the new season next month. Kotoko have been busiest with as many as 10 new additions to their team thus far. Americans are ready to retain Donald Trump in power following his tremendous achievements in his first 4 years in office as the American President. Below are some of the accounts given by ordinary American citizens. He made the economy work for so many Americans, kept us out of new and costly wars and even brokered peace deals in the Middle East. He believes our taxes should be lower, not higher — and signed into law sweeping tax relief for businesses and the vast majority of federal income tax filers. He thinks government shouldn’t overregulate, rolling back numerous Obama-era overreaches, while working with his Republican allies in Congress. And despite his relative dovishness, he has invested in our military and in the men and women who wear the uniform. As a result, our enemies know we are more than capable of finishing them. Just ask the former leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi or former Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Beyond that, Trump stands up against the worst impulses of the American left and the radicals who seek to banish from the public square those who dare to think differently. Heck, even the Girl Scouts deleted a tweet congratulating Amy Coney Barrett on her elevation to the Supreme Court because of pressure from the liberal Twitter mob. Is that the kind of American we want, where unhinged progressives can shut down even a simple tweet of congrats to an accomplished female judge? Whatever problems I have with him — and there are more than a few — Trump’s willingness to stand up to this kind of mob impresses the hell out of me. Standing by Justice Brett Kavanaugh during a tough confirmation fight, for instance, was a particularly proud moment. Trump is not a perfect person. His personal history, and the way he speaks to and about people can be atrocious. But Trump did become the first sitting president to attend the March for Life Rally this year, where he voiced his unwavering support for “unborn children,” who he said “never had a stronger defender in the White House.” Whether his views on abortion are pure or transactional, I care not. He stands up for the unborn who can’t stand up for themselves — and has appointed judges, like Barrett, who will hopefully do the same. Elections are choices. Pro-life or pro-choice. Higher taxes or lower taxes. Support free speech or coddle censorship. No politician ever satisfies me fully, but Trump comes far closer than Joe Biden ever could. There’s room for Trump to improve, but in no way does Biden represent a step in a policy direction that I can support as a conservative. He fails the test on virtually every issue I care about, and I expect the United States would move radically left on his watch, especially on abortion. Clarity from the Adongo family Regarding Our Child’s Treatment by the MP for Bolga Central, 30th October 2020 In line with recent News about the treatment of our child in India by Hon. Isaac Adongo, it has become important that the Adongo family bring some clarity on the issue. It is worth noting that, it was never our wish to discuss our daughter’s health in the public domain, but once it has become a topical issue, we would kindly like to clarify the issue for two main reasons: 1. To clarify our expenses to other contributors who have raised concerns about what their contributions were used for, since the child’s treatment was catered for by the honorable MP. 2. To thank the MP once again and also explain that his contribution constituted 12% of the entire expenses on our child’s treatment abroad. We are however not seeking to belittle the support we had from the honorable MP. Respectfully, we would like to add that, preparations were almost complete for the trip before Hon. Isaac Adongo was contacted by a close friend to the child’s mother. We considered it as unexpected but very helpful contribution, and we’re forever grateful. Considerably, below is a brief breakdown of the total cost of our child’s treatment and the sponsors involved. The entire expenses on the child’s treatment at the Bolga Regional Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the eventual trip to India was approximately $22,000 dollars (i.e Ghc 121, 000 cedis approximately as at 2017). We still have receipts on almost all the hospital expenses.The honorable Bolga Central MP’s contribution was Ghc15,000 cedis constituting approximately 12% of the total expenditure; which we appreciate very much. We are told the MP said he contributed 17,000 cedis, but the family can only confirm receipt of 15,000 cedis from his office. The remaining 88% contributions came from: 1.Family 2.Mr. Evans Abolga (Owner of Total 2 & 3 Filling Stations in Bolga town) 3.GNAT 4.Afrikids 5.Assemblies of God Church, Bolgatanga. 6. Other anonymous contributors. Therefore, if one contributor says he/she sponsored the child to India for treatment, it will be unfair to other contributors who also contributed significantly. It also will mean that our family did not use contributions from other sources for the intended purpose, since the bill was sponsored by the honourable MP. That is why the family finds it necessary to clarify the issue in public for people to understand the level of support we received from various sources with much appreciation. Gov’t Rejects CHASS Call To Review Free SHS And Levy Parents
A petitioned by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) for the Akufo-Addo administration to review Free SHS policy and allow parents to support the programme financially has been rejected. The President of the CHASS, Alhaji Yakub Abubakar earlier at the 58th annual Conference of CHASS in Cape Coast made a call for the Government of Ghana to consider reviewing the policy after 3 years of implementation Alhaji Yakub Abubakar following suggestions and negative comments about the policy noted the programme needs to be reviewed to address challenges confronting the Free SHS in other for it to produce a fruitful outcome. The Executive Director of the Africa Education Watch, Mr. Kofi Asare in line with the CHASS President on social media made a similar request for the PTA’s to support programme and free some resources to the basic level. “One cannot ‘fully’ finance secondary without under-financing basic, as the case is in Ghana today. So please, GoG, allow PTAs to support, so you can free some resources to basic”, he said in a social media post. According to him, education is not only a collective responsibility involving parents, communities, teachers and government but also one that is economic in principle, hence the need for a review of the Free SHS policy. However, the Deputy Education Minister in an interview with the Daily graphic newspaper said such a review of the policy will negatively influence the purpose of the implementation of the Free SHS programme. “To say that the government should somehow allow you [CHASS] to levy your own fees against parents in an era of free senior high school is what I don’t understand. Journalist murdered in Mexico, sixth in 2020
A journalist has been shot dead in crime-ridden northern Mexico, authorities said Friday, the sixth such murder this year in one of the world’s most dangerous countries for reporters. Chihuahua state governor Javier Corral condemned the “cowardly” killing of Arturo Alba Medina in Ciudad Juarez near the US border. Corral said on Twitter that he had told prosecutors to ensure the perpetrators are punished, adding: “Justice will be done.” The 49-year-old journalist and television news show host was assassinated a few minutes after the end of his program on Thursday night, according to media watchdog Reporters Without Borders. “This was clearly an execution and his media colleagues where he worked are afraid and don’t know the reason for the crime,” Balbina Flores, RSF representative in Mexico, told AFP. The journalist’s body was found inside a vehicle along with eleven bullet shells, the reports said. Chihuahua attorney general Cesar Augusto Peniche promised to give “all the resources available to the prosecution to resolve this case.” – ‘Silence zones’ – RSF regularly ranks Mexico alongside war-torn Syria and Afghanistan as the world’s most dangerous countries for news media. In September journalist Julio Valdivia was found decapitated in eastern Veracruz state, a flashpoint in turf wars between rival drug cartels. More than 100 reporters have been murdered since 2000 in Mexico, where asking questions about political corruption or powerful drug cartels can be a deadly business. Only a fraction of those crimes have resulted in convictions. Such impunity has led to “silence zones” where journalists have chosen not to investigate topics related to organized crime or corruption for fear of being killed. In a rare case, a man convicted of ordering the 2017 murder of prominent journalist Miroslava Breach in Chihuahua state was condemned in August to 50 years in prison. Prosecutors said the sentence was precedent-setting and the longest yet for such a crime.
