The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has been trending on Twitter over recent comments he made about persons advising the party to go to court to seek redress over the election results. Some Ghanaians who have fallen in love with Sammy Gyamfi’s persona described him as a smart lawyer. They also stated that he’s become their motivation to venture into the law profession. One of the tweeps with the user name, Pretty Jane, while heaping praises on the young lawyer said, “Sammy Gyamfi is my communication director. A smart lawyer by all standard.” Another account holder named The Kings last born stated that, “He’s gradually become a double-edged sword in the flesh of the elephant. He’s my greatest motivation to read law. Sammy Gyamfi.” Favour said, “This guy Sammy Gyamfi erh, NPP people will be complaining and saying shit about him but low key they’ve sent their proposal. You are a goat lawyer. My communication minister. Sammy Gyamfi at a press conference Thursday, December 17 said detractors who have asked the NDC to go to court over the elections result should keep mute because they are not the party’s advisors. According to him, though going to court is an option, whether or not they will exercise that option lies in their bosom. “Do not tell the NDC to go to court because you are not our advisors. PHOTOS: 557 youths renounce cultism, surrender weapons, charms to police
No fewer than 557 youths have renounced membership of cult groups in Bodo and other communities in Gokona Local Government Area of Rivers State. The repentant cultists surrendered their weapons and charms to the police during the disarmament program held at Apostolice Field in Bodo. The programme which began on December 3, followed an intensive military operation in Bodo by the Chairman of Gokana, Hon Paul Vidag Kobani led by the Bori Divisional Officer in collaboration with other sister security agencies in Gokana. Rev. Father Abel Abulu, the Parish priest of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bodo, who facilitated the programme, expressed happiness that the youth realised the need to change their ways and embrace peace. “The whole picture of Christ as a model of reconciliation is the message that this exercise espouses and that is what we have done,” said the priest. Speaking at the event, the state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, urged the youth to resist any temptation to return to crime or be ready to face the law. “We are trying to see if they have genuinely repented so that we can see how they will be rehabilitated and possibly, we will appeal to the government to give them pardon so that they can be reintegrated into the society. But first of all, we just have to monitor them to be sure that actually they have repented.” Mukan said. In his speech, Gokana council boss, Hon. Paul Vidag Kobani, however, warned that the sincerity on the part of those who surrendered their arms is what will either validate or invalidate the process as the security agencies will do thorough verification before the government will consider the plea for pardon. He reminded those who felt the process was a mere jamboree to divert public attention from their nefarious activities to think twice as there will not be another window of repentance for them if they fail to fully utilize the opportunity given to them on a platter of gold. Kobani said those who have denounced cultism can not be given any special treatment at the detriment of youths who have lived an honourable life as that will send the wrong message to the larger society of people who didn’t pick up arms against the people under any guise. The LG boss also stated that government cannot be seen in patronage or encouragement of cultism and as such, can not give any form of special treatment directly or indirectly. Vodafone announces 4G, 5G, services to Ghana by satellite
Vodafone has announced a new initiative through which it intends, in partnership with AST Spacemobile to bein beaming 4G and 5G internet access directly to mobile phones in Ghana and 48 other equatorial countries from 2023. The new platform, which will employ 20 satellites will effectively turn standard smartphones connected to Vodafone’s network, that are capable of leveraging standard 4G and 5G technology, into satellite phones wherever they are being used from all around Ghana. The new initiative when it becomes operational would give Vodafone a distinct advantage in its competition with MTN Ghana in particular, for 4G market share. The two networks are the only two of the four GSM networks operational in Ghana that are currently licensed to provide 4G services – the others licensed 4G service providers being indigenously owned dedicated internet service providers led by Surfline. However Vodafone’s proposed satellite driven 4G services in Ghana would be subject to regulatory approval from the National Communications Authority although it is most likely that the requisite approval would be given within the next couple of years. Apart from offering Ghana a fast tracked access to 5G services, the proposed platform would be immensely useful to Ghanaian manufacturers, exporters and importers that would be looking to take maximum advantage of commerce opportunities offered by the commencement of the African Continental Free Trade Area. This is because the platform would also cover numerous other major African jurisdictions including Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mozambique and Tanzania., enabling Ghanaian traders, entrepreneurs, investors and corporate executives to communicate seamlessly with counterparts in those countries and to stay in touch with home while on business trips to those countries as well without engaging in international roaming at sometimes inordinate cost. Also importantly, satellite technology will allow coverage in rural areas not covered by existing mobile networks because of gaps in cell site infrastructure. Vodafone intends to integrate the technology into the services provided by its Vodafone, Vodacom and Safaricom brands. AST Mobile stated: “More than five billion mobile subscribers constantly move in and out of wireless coverage, and AST SpaceMobile’s solution will fill these coverage gaps to enable people to stay connected whilst on the move. This is a significant breakthrough in helping to bring affordable mobile connectivity to more than half of the world’s population that do not have internet on their phone. “Traditional satellite systems require expensive specialised satellite phones or ground antenna systems, which is different to AST SpaceMobile’s patented technology, where all that is needed is the phone in your pocket”. You cannot ask people to accept defeat when they’ve not received justice – PPP
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) says the various bodies and individuals calling for peace following the outcome of the 2020 general elections should not lose sight of justice. Mr. Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, the running mate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) who spoke on behalf of the party argues that there cannot be peace when justice has not been given to aggrieved persons. He has, therefore, advised the EC to publish the 275 collation sheets used for the presidential election since that is what will bring the peace we are calling for. He asked the Peace Council, the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, and stakeholders who have called for peace to ensure that their loyalty should be for Ghana and not a political party or an individual. ”Peace is paramount, it is important and PPP supports peace but we are forgetting about justice. For peace to prevail, there must be justice. We cannot cheat people and ask them to pursue a path of peace when we have refused to give them justice,” he said. The EC he stated promised to be transparent and credible but they are now being accused of rigging the polls because they were not transparent in the elections. “For peace to prevail, the EC must publish the 275 collation sheets for the parties who contested the results to be satisfied. That is what will bring peace.” He made these remarks in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm with host Kwabena Agyapong. The PPP’s running mate said the publication should not be difficult for the EC to do because they managed to publish the entire register used for the general elections before December 7, 2020. He said there is no need for people to call for peace when those challenging the results have not been given an opportunity to be heard. Mr. Asamoah-Siaw further noted that it makes no sense to ask an aggrieved party to accept the results when they have raised questions about irregularities. The publication of the 16 regions which have been published on the website he said is a mistake and unlawful because they should have rather published the constituency results. To him, the declaration cannot be correct when the EC has failed to allow due process to be followed and the evidence for the declaration has not been transparent. Kotoko will bounce back – Maxwell Konadu
Maxwell Konadu, Head Coach of Asante Kotoko has said that the team will bounce back from its loss against Great Olympics in the outstanding matchday three fixture played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday. The Porcupine Warriors succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Great Olympics courtesy a sublime header from Micheal Yeboah, as Kotoko suffered their first defeat of the season. Speaking in a post-match press conference, the highly experienced coach assured the fans of Kotoko that they would bounce back from the painful loss. He expressed discontent with their first-half performance but was happy about the response of the team in the second half and said that they have learned their lessons. “It was difficult as you all witnessed. We couldn’t get our rhythm in the first half but after the break when we started doing the basic things we got our game together and for me, that is what we should have done in the first half. “I have taken lessons from this game and going forward we want to reassure our supporters that we would bounce back as soon as possible,’’ Konadu said. Election 2020: Sammy Gyamfi presents evidence of electoral fraud
Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress has presented to the general public evidence of electoral fraud in the just-ended December 7 elections, which his party has gathered so far. He maintained that the 2020 presidential election results declared by Jean Mensa, the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, is a ‘stolen verdict’ for the incumbent president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, hence his party’s rejection of the declared results. Gyamfi, at a news conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra, claimed some evidence gathered by the party so far has established the point that the Jean Mensa-led EC at some polling stations decided to reduce the votes of the NDC candidate, John Dramani Mahama, and added more figures to the votes of candidate Akufo-Addo. He indicated that what the party has detected in their audit of the pink sheets is “naked thievery”. Sammy Gyamfi cited an example thus, “So Sunyani West SDA Primary School, Chiraa 1 Polling Station, the number of voters on the voter’s register is 49. Total ballots allocated to the polling station by the EC per the constituency ballot statistics document they themselves gave political parties is 60.” “Yet, the total votes cast at the polling station is 466 as recorded on the face of the pink sheet. If this is not evidence of electoral fraud, then what is it?” he questioned. “Mind you, this is just one out of the thousands of cases of over-voting we have uncovered through our painstaking audit of pink sheets,” he added. Sammy Gyamfi averred, “right from the onset, it was clear that the NPP was given an illegal advantage to cheat by the Electoral Commission. They have been given official ballot papers which were security materials, stamped with the EC’s validation stamp…” Sammy Gyamfi stressed that the NDC have “all the pink sheets and at the right time, we are going to make our findings public”. The EC within 48 hours of voting on Wednesday, December 9, declared the incumbent President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the president-elect of Ghana, but has changed its figures several times, all of which point to a run-off election, yet the EC claims its wrongful addition of figures and calculation of percentages are correct. For example, the EC on Thursday, December 10, issued a statement admitting an error saying its Chairperson, “inadvertently used 13,433,573 as the total valid votes cast”. “The total valid votes cast is 13,119,460. This does not change the percentages stated for each candidate and the declaration made by the Chairperson.” John Dramani Mahama, who led the NDC into the 2020 elections, at a press conference after the EC declared President Akufo-Addo the winner of the presidential race, described the results as ‘flawed and fictionalised.’ Mahama averred that data available to his party from across all the 16 regions of Ghana showed that he had won the 2020 presidential election, insisting that any other pronouncement by the EC was evidence of manipulation of figures. Security agencies will deal with NDC protesters who misbehave – Minister
Interior Minister Ambrose Dery has issued a barrage of stern warnings to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who are protesting across the country without recourse to the law governing such acts. According to him, the government will not relent to punish any of the protesters who misbehave and fall short of the law while protesting. He acknowledged that it is within their right to protest on the streets to drum home their grievances but as they do that they should ensure that they do it within the remits of the law. Ambrose Dery made this known when he spoke to Accra-based Joy News in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com. He said, “as they try to protest, they must do so within the law. If they go and breach the law, the law shall take its course”. Ambrose Dery said as the Police protect the protesters, it’s imperative that the protesters also ensure that their protest does not put the lives of the citizens at risk. “When you burn tyres on the street, you are causing damage to state property. You are burning and it will affect the roads needless to talk about what the health hazards are that you are doing so and the smoke is going to affect people who have respiratory problems. I think that at the end of the day, we must respect democratic principles. The NPP went to court, what is wrong with that? That is the only due process that you have any other means is doing it outside the law and it’s not advisable,” he said. Parliament approves €18.8m loan facility for supply of 112 additional ambulances
Parliament has approved a loan facility for the supply of a fleet of 112 ambulances to augment the National Ambulance Service’s operations.
