UER: Motorist burnt to death after running into a commercial van
A motorist has been burnt beyond recognition leading to his death in an accident involving a commercial bus popularly known as trotro in Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region. The incident occurred near the hospital junction on Bolgatanga-Navrongo road. According to the eyewitnesses who spoke to Apexnewsgh.com, expressed shock over the tragic incident, the motorist appeared helpless after been trapped and the vehicle and consumed by the terrible fire. the van according to eyewitnesses, was loaded with drinks whiles moving towards Navrongo run into shortly after the deceased motorist and a pillion rider were seen overtaking oncoming bikes from the opposite direction. The eyewitness further accounts that the riders lost control and ran into the moving vehicle which had 3 passengers on board and heavily loaded with bottled drinks. An explosion was heard and followed shortly by flames in what is suspected to be an explosion caused by the crash of the motorbike beneath the vehicle. Though a team of police and officials of the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene, only the drinks and a part of the vehicle could be salvaged. However, two passengers on board the vehicle have been rushed to the Bolgatanga hospital for treatment. Supply of food has improved considerably under my watch – Akoto Afriyie
Former Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie has touted his first term achievements saying Ghana recorded significant food supply under his tenure. “The comparison we are making is about what things are like now and what they were like 10 years ago or five years ago. I’m very confident that the supply of food in Ghana has improved considerably under my watch”, he stated. He passed these comments at his vetting for reappointment on Friday when he turned up before Parliament’s Appointment Committee. Sue wholesalers who refuse to accept returned contaminated pet foods – FDA to Retailers
The Food And Drugs Authority has urged retailers to sue Wholesalers who refuse to accept the various contaminated pet foods returned to them. Speaking Friday on Agoo FM Morning Show, Head of Food Division at the FDA Roderick Daddey Adjei said all retailers can return their goods to the Wholesalers for their monies to be refunded. “I think individuals wouldn’t be bothered much but for those who buy and sell should return the products to their wholesalers or wherever they bought the goods from…and the person must refund your money because this is a matter of force or get a lawyer to address the matter amicably. If you buy something and it is not of quality, the person must even apologize to you so it is their responsibility to refund the monies to whoever bought the product in large quantities, ” he stated. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has warned the public against contaminated pet foods on the market. There has been a recall of various brands of pet foods manufactured by Midwestern Pet Foods, Indiana in the United States of America (USA) already on the Ghanaian market following the development. The recall is due to the presence of high aflatoxin contamination which has caused the death of 70 dogs and other illnesses in another 80, FDA in a statement on Thursday said. The FDA named several pet foods contaminated by the aflatoxin including Pro Pac Originals, Sportmix, Splash Pet food, Sportstrail Pet food and Nunn Better Dry Dog and Cat Foods. The pet foods being recalled have the following information on the packaging which is “Expiry dates on or before 9th July, 2022 with facility number 05 found at the end of the Date Code i.e, EXP: 03/03/05 or 03/Mar/22/05, Registration OK-PFO-0005 and Batch Numbers: 17/10/21/05/L3 and 12/11/21/05/l2”. “In view of the above, those who are in possession of these Pet foods are being directed to return the products to the importer, place of purchase or any of the FDA offices across the country” the FDA said its press statement dated February 18, 2021, signed and issued by the Chief Executive Officer of FDA, Mrs Delese A.A. Gov’t officials will publicly take doses of COVID-19 vaccines to demystify fear – Oppong Nkrumah
Some government officials will publicly take doses of the COVID-19 vaccines before the mass vaccination exercise to help demystify the public apprehension about the vaccine. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) will next month begin a mass vaccination exercise with COVID-19 vaccines for selected segments of the population. The vaccines will first be administered to health care workers, frontline security personnel, persons with known underlying medical conditions, 60 plus older persons and frontline members of the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has, so far, approved AstraZeneca vaccines from India and Sputnik-V vaccines from Russia for mass immunisation in Ghana, starting from March to October. However, some social media platforms are awash with videos and photographs of people, who allegedly took COVID-19 vaccines in other jurisdictions, experiencing side effects, such as twisted mouth and nose, which has created fear and panic among a section of the Ghanaian population. It is in that light, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister-designate for Information, said at a public engagement on the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out plan, in Accra on Friday that, some members of government, including himself, would volunteer to publicly take shots of the COVID-19 vaccines to demystify the negative perception. He said there would be elaborate stakeholder engagements and sustained public sensitisation campaigns by the Ghana Local Service(GLS), Ministry of Health(MOH), Ghana Health Service(GHS) National Commission for Civic Education(NCCE) and Information Services Department (ISD), to educate the public on the upcoming immunisation exercise. Mr Oppong Nkrumah said health staff from the GHS, ISD and NCCE would visit markets, lorry parks, churches, mosques and other public places, with vans to sensitise the public, explain and answer questions regarding the vaccination exercise. The Minister-designate urged the mass media to continue partnering government in educating the public on the vaccination programme as well as advocating strict adherence to the COVID-19 safety and preventive protocols. Dr Kwame Amponsa-Achiano, the Programme Manager, Expanded Programme on Immunisation, Ghana Health Service, said the COVID-19 vaccines the country would soon administer had gone through clinical trial and proven to be safe and efficacious. He said it would be administered in three phases, with each person taking two doses. It is estimated that 20 million Ghanaians would be vaccinated at a cost of over $50 million and that it would cost the government $2.60 per person. He said the GHS had trained over 12,500 vaccinators, 2,000 supervisors and 37,413 volunteers to administer the vaccines across the 260 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies. The vaccines would be stored at temperatures between two and eight degrees Celsius. Dr Amponsa-Achiano said the country had a robust immunisation programme with more than 95 per cent coverage, which had stood the test of time. Ghana’s COVID-19 vaccine immunisation regime is being supported by the COVAX Facility, the African Medicine Platform, the African Union and civil society organizations into pharmaceutical service. A Security Analyst Adam Bonaa has asked the Appointments Committee of Parliament to endorse the nomination of Hawa Koomson as the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture in spite of claims by some quarters that she put up a poor show at her vetting on Thursday February 18. Minority accuses NDA CEO of sharing contracts to NPP members
The Minority in Parliament has demanded the immediate removal of the Chief Executive Officer for the Northern Development Authority over procurement breaches. The NDC MPs are accusing Dr Alhassan Sulemana Anamzoya of sharing contracts without dues process to members of the governing NPP. UER COVID:14 nurses in Upper East Region currently infected with COVID-19
112 nurses in Upper East Region were infected with coronavirus from the first reported case of COVID-19 in Ghana to February 6, 2021, according to the Upper East Regional Branch of Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Council (GRNMA). 89-9 According to the Upper East Regional Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Council (GRNMA) Lambon Jafouk, 9 nurses were reported, followed by 89 and the figure of the infected nurses in the Upper East Region with the deadly coronavirus stands at 14 per the collation as at 6th February 2021. “Initially it was frightening but now, I can say the numbers am getting shows that people are waking up”. Level 400 university student allegedly commits suicide after his girlfriend dumped him for cheating(Photos) A 400 level student of the Federal University of Dutse, Jigawa State identified as Abdul, has reportedly committed suicide after his girlfriend dumped him for cheating on her. According to reports, the deceased, a Mathematics student described as a First Class material, reportedly drank a poisonous substance after his girlfriend identified as Rafi’atu, a 200 level student of the same institution, allegedly ended their relationship based on infidelity. Rafi’atu, in a statement, said the deceased had told another girl that he loved her and she found out. She requested that they go their separate ways as she couldn’t be in a relationship with a cheating partner. She further stated that on the night of Valentines, he sent her a message threatening to drink the poisonous substance if she didn’t get back to him. We have to resist LGBTQI with all our might – Antwi Danso
Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso, Dean of Academic Affairs at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, has urged Ghanaians, especially those in authority to be emphatic in the resistance of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexuals, Transgender and Queer Individuals(LGBTQI) phenomenon in the country. He expressed his apprehension on the heels of the LGBTQI establishing an office in the country in an interview with Alfred Ocansey on News 360 on TV3, Thursday February 18. Dr. Danso emphasized the position that “any international organization can support any other entity in any other country but that does not confer diplomatic immunity to persons who are going to use this facility, so if any Ghanaian is there doing anything, only Ghanaian laws apply to such personality. If any foreigner is patronizing the place his immunity inures from the diplomatic immunity according to the international conventions we know in Vienna. They can’t claim immunity just because the facility belongs to gays, lesbians, and that kind of thing”. He shares the view that such avenues are subtle ways of influencing the cultural norms and security of a sovereign society like Ghana with a potential international consequence for the country. “Ghana has not officially accepted LGBTQ and that kind of thing as an official position that we recognize it as a Human Rights thing, and therefore going further to have this thing established has repercussions not necessarily from government to government level repercussion but the general security implications, when I say security I’m talking about the broad sense security, I mean what is this?” he fumed. “That my 8-year old daughter is now going to learn touching femaleness, maleness?
