Fabio Gama put up a man of the match performance on Wednesday to help Asante Kotoko cruise to a 4-0 win over Bechem United in a Ghana Premier League match day 16 outstanding game at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium. Jacobu: Excavator operator killed in gun attack at mining site
One person was killed when two unidentified men raided a mining site at Attabrakoso, a community near Jacobu in the Ashanti Region. The victim named as 30-year-old Richard Arthur, an excavator operator with Tolla Mining Company died when he sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the Tuesday dawn attack. The robbers also shot a security man during the raid. He is currently receiving treatment at a health facility. An employee of the company who pleaded anonymity told dailymailgh.com that the armed men made away with items such as a TV set, and a mobile phone and two pump action guns. The police at Jacobu have been notified of the development and have since taken over investigations. They were however not reachable for comments. NLA reacts to Ghana Lotto Operators Association

In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, the NLA stated that, there was no policy for KGL Technology Limited to take over from the Authority, which was confirmed by the Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, during his vetting at the Appointments Committee of Parliament. “It is instructive to place on record that NLA is not creating any form of monopoly for KGL Technology Limited and urged the media and the public to totally disregard the allegations by GLOA”. “For the avoidance of doubt, Keed Ghana Limited is not the same as KGL Technology Limited in terms of operations. “Keed Ghana Limited was duly licensed by the NLA to operate a dividend-based game on behalf of NLA known as Lucky 3 with an official short code of *987#. “On the other hand, KGL Technology Limited is an online lotto marketing company duly licensed by the NLA to operate the 5/90 Original Lotto on behalf of the Authority with the official short of *959#. The statement said the allegations by GLOA against KGL Technology Limited and its Chief Executive, Mr. Alex Dadey and Keed Ghana Limited was baseless. It said KGL Technology Limited was fully legal and recognized by the NLA as an online lotto marketing company responsible for the operation of *959# on behalf of NLA and the partnership between the NLA and KGL Technology Limited could be best described as a GAME CHANGER. It said the partnership was a million times more profitable to the NLA than the licenses issued to members of Ghana Lotto Operators Association including Alpha Lotto Limited. Majority Leader should stop fooling — NPP’s Boakye Agyarko angry over selection of NPP flagbearer by consensus comment
Former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, has taken a swipe at the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, for his recent comments on the upcoming NPP presidential election. Mr Mensah-Bonsu had recently made what is described as “unpalatable and unnecessary remarks” that the NPP shall select its next Flagbearer by “consensus”, in contravention of the NPP’s constitution. He further made an ethnocentric pronouncement on the upcoming elections within the NPP, saying it was time for a non-Akan person to lead the NPP. The Majority Leader in an interview with Accra-based Joy News said it’s unwise for the NPP to present another Akan as flagbearer for the party in 2024. “Inwardly, I know I also have the competence but is it wise for me now immediately after two Akans; Kufour had been the president, Akufo-Addo follows from the Eastern Region and there is a third Akan to follow? Doing introspection, I think it may not hold well for a party that is accused by some as being overly Akanistic party. But not everybody agrees with me. And that is the beauty of democracy,” Mr Mensah-Bonsu said. But speaking in an interview with Oman FM, Mr. Agyarko, a senior member of the NPP expresses disappointment in the Majority Leader for making such utterances, describing them as “bloody fool” and “infantile”. “Instead of ensuring that the party is deeply rooted for Ghanaians to know that we are serious people and that when we are given the mandate we do things right, we are there fooling. Why are we disturbing the party? The party has a constitution. For me normally, I will not have mentioned names but I’m disappointed with the majority leader. Leakages in petroleum product distribution worrying – Bawumia
Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched an innovative Digital Retail Fuel Monitoring System by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) in Accra. The Fuel Monitoring System, which allows fuel in OMC tanks across the country to be monitored by NPA, will curb illicit activities in petroleum downstreaming, such as unauthorised third party deliveries, fake receipts, smuggling, among others. Under this system, any OMC that receives illegal fuel would be found out. Launching the programme in Accra on Wednesday April 7, Vice President Bawumia commended the NPA for leveraging on government’s digitization drive to create an innovative solution to a major problem in the petroleum industry. “I am particularly delighted that the NPA is leveraging on technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the distribution of petroleum products in the Petroleum Downstream Industry,” Vice President Bawumia said. Dr. Bawumia revealed staggering losses in petroleum revenue to government due to illegal activities in petroleum distribution, adding that the initiative by the NPA will end the malady of revenue loss and significantly boost government revenue. “It is estimated that between 2015-2019, government lost GHC4.7 billion in tax revenue as a result of illegal activities in the petroleum sector,” Dr. Bawumia revealed. “Actions, decisions and policies of individuals and corporate bodies which result in petroleum product distribution leakages and the associated revenue losses to the State have serious negative effects on the developmental agenda of the government.” Dr. Bawumia undersored the significance of the innovation to the overall development agenda of government, highlighting the importance of petroleum revenue. “Taxes and levies on petroleum products are major sources of revenue for the government in pursuing its developmental agenda,” the Vice President said. “Actions, decisions and policies of individuals and corporate bodies which result in petroleum product distribution leakages and the associated revenue losses to the State have serious negative effects on the developmental agenda of the government.” “With this latest initiative of the Retail Outlet Fuel Monitoring System, we look forward to blocking revenue leakages and improving revenue mobilization that would contribute to Government’s efforts to providing social services and funding for infrastructural development.” The Minister for Energy, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, urged stakeholders in the petroleum industry to exhibit patriotism and join hands with the NPA to help curb illegal activities in the interest of the state. Fetish Priestess who allegedly influenced Kasoa ritual murder arrested
A fetish Princess has been arrested at Amanase near Suhum in the Eastern Region by a team of police officers to assist with investigations following the gruesome murder of 11-year-old boy in Kasoa. Fish deaths: Compensate fisherfolk, conduct medical checks – Vanderpuye to gov’t
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Odododiodoo constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has appealed to the government to offer some compensation to fisherfolk who were affected by the washing ashore of dead and unconscious fish species recently. Scores of dead fish were washed ashore on 2 April 2021 at the Osu Castle beach in the Greater Accra Region. A similar incident happened in Axim-Bewire in the Western Region on 4 April 2021, where a number of dolphins were also washed ashore. Following the incidents, the fisherfolk in Accra were asked to take a break from their fishing activities while investigations went on. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Fisheries Ministry visited the scene to take samples of the fish species and seawater for investigations. But Nii Lante Vanderpuye told Class FM on Wednesday, 7 April 2021 that some relief packages must be extended to the fisherfolk because their means of livelihood has been put on hold due to the incident. Additionally, the former Minister of Youth and Sports also urged the government to assign health personnel to the affected areas to conduct medical examination to ensure that those who might have consumed some of the washed ashore fish are in good health. PNC Gen. Sec. accuses party chair, flag bearer of blowing GHS1.7m but Apasera calls claim ‘stupid’, ‘funny
The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr Moses Dani Baah and the party’s 2020 flag bearer, Mr David Apasera, have been accused by their General Secretary Janet Nabla of misappropriating party funds to the tune of GHS1.7 million. According to Mrs Nabla, the two politicians dip their hands into the party’s coffers nilly-willy without recourse to her despite being the “CEO” of the party, as well as a signatory to the account. Apart from the GHS1.7 million, she claimed Mr Apasera recently took an undisclosed amount of money from sympathisers of the PNC meant for the party’s National Executive Committee meeting without informing or rendering account for it. Also, she claimed the two politicians have been using party funds to reimburse themselves for allegedly pre-financing party activities with their private funds. Mrs Nabla wondered if Mr Apasera and Mr Dani Baah are sidelining her on gender grounds. “Is it because I’m a woman?” she wondered in an interview with ClassFMonline.com. She made the counter-allegations after the two politicians accused her of taking some GHS30,000 belonging to the PNC from the Electoral Commission and using it on their blindside. Mrs Nabla, however, explained that she used the GHS30,000 to pay rent for the PNC’s 16 regional officers. Out of that money, she said Mr Apasera took almost a half of it to pay the rent of the party’s national headquarters in Accra. The other 15 regions, she added, got just about GHS1,000 apiece to cater for their rent. “I didn’t pay the GHS30,000 into the national account because anytime money goes into that account, the two dip their hands into it and use it anyhow”, she explained. Reacting to the allegations, however, Mr Apasera, who denied all the claims, explained to ClassFMonline.com that in the lead-up to the 2020 polls, the party first raised GHS500,000 out of which each of the PNC’s 39 parliamentary candidates got GHS10,000 to file their nomination. The flag bearer also used GHS100,000 to file his nomination, bringing the total amount to GHS490,000. “She was there” when the money was being used for those purposes, Mr Apasera said. He further noted that the party raised another GHS500,000 and used it to bankroll other campaign activities such as the drafting and launching a manifesto; printing posters and T-shirts; resourcing the parliamentary candidates to move around, campaigning in the northern parts of the country, renting two SUVs and a pickup and paying the hotel bills of the campaign team. Of that same second tranche, “we decided to give a total of GHS10,000” to each of the 39 parliamentary candidates, which comprised of GHS2,000 in cash, 2,000 posters and 200 T-shirts. The expenditure, according to Mr Apasera, wad done “in the full glare of everyone”, adding: “There has never been any time that myself and Moses have decided on expenditure without telling them”. He continued that the party “finally raised GHS700,000 at the last moment and everybody had a budget” including the General Secretary and “she was given what she came for and then we made sure every parliamentary candidate was given GHS5,000, every region was given GHS3,000 for monitoring and then I was to go out to campaign”. “Moses Dani Baah was to go back to Tumu and help the candidate”, he added. According to the 2020 flag bearer, “it is only in our time that some of the parliamentary candidates got up to GHS100,000 each. The candidates we thought that would win, because our mind was to make sure that we are present in parliament”, so, “the candidates we thought would win, some of them got up to GHS100,000 or above and we had to rent a car to even supplement the candidate in Tumu to be able to run”. “Ask her. She has been in the party and she was calling the shots in the past”, Mr Apasera dared. “She’s making all these funny allegations. Where is that money that I dipped my hands into?” he asked. He said “even at the last NEC meeting, I set up a committee to investigate all the allegations and I told them at that meeting that if they investigate and I have spent a dime of the party’s money, I will resign. I am a politician of character”, he noted. “And, so, when somebody comes out knowing nothing except backbiting and trying to destroy and trying to control and makes stupid allegations. So, at the last congress, we set up a committee of three and I told them they should investigate and come out and tell me who has chopped party money and if what she’s saying is a lie, the party will sanction her because you can’t wake up from within the party and try to create unnecessary stories just because you don’t like someone”, he noted.
