Talensi District Assembly has denied having knowledge of the ripped off classrooms at Baapelug JHS which occurred since May 2020. The incident which has become an eye saw has put the lives of Pupils of Baapelug JHS in very serious danger, especially as the region waits to receive its first share of the 2021 rainfall. However, he is calling on authorities, chiefs, and well-meaning personalities of Talensi living in both home and abroad to come to the aid of the innocent children before any harm is caused. The Assemblyman of the area Osman Abubakar Abengo (Hon) when contacted said, he cannot dispute in 2018 the incident did not happen but, emphasizing that with the current situation happened in 2020. “I learned that wasn’t the first time that school was ripped off. It has happened and happened again. So, when it happened, immediately the headmaster called me and I immediately went there and we sent a report to the assembly and the engineer followed up immediately to the site and then we assessed it, and it came out that the wood that was used is all rotten. So, the previous job they did was to just put on some new wood on top and put new zinc. But, the bonding between the new and the old wood could not happen because the down one was rotten and it was only the top one was strong hence what happens in April -May 2020” He explained According to the Assemblymember, after the costing with the assembly, the assembly concluded to do what he described as ‘total roofing’ before the arrival of COVID-19 and a directive was given for all schools to closed down. However, he is confident that the school will receive some attention before the rain set in, especially as the district waits for the presidential appointment of the new District Chief Executive. He further reiterated that since the reopening of schools in January, he has been following the issue up with the district assembly. Mr. Yin Jacob, the headteacher at the Baapelug JHS when contacted expressed dissatisfaction with the current situation. According to him, he came and met the incident in September 2020 when he resumed post as the headteacher, stressing that the lives of teachers and pupils are in danger and they can no longer study with their peace of mind. “Putting the roof back in shape is what we are asking for”. He told Apexnewsgh.com Most of the aggrieved parents who were not satisfied with the assembly delay in fixing up the ripped off classrooms have questioned, what the assembly is doing since the re-opening of schools in January till April 14, 2021, as at the time of filing this story, the school is still managing with their teaching and learning with such bad environmental condition. However, the president is so passionate about this that subsequent to that, you will notice that there have been two amendments to the law. “I will probably say gaps in the law which were exploited by some people and to prevent that from happening, the president has cause d two amendments to be made to the law in terms of ACT 900 and subsequently ACT 995. “When 900 was passed he said no, this is not punitive enough and he caused 995 to be passed. Akufo-Addo has failed woefully – CPP
The Chairperson and leader of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankuma has said President Akufo-Addo is deteriorating Ghana’s economy irrespective of the excessive borrowing by his administration. Nana Frimpomaa has maintained that President Akufo-Addo when in opposition bragged and made juicy promises to save the country from ditch and economic doldrums’ yet he has failed woefully in all sectors. She has indicated that President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 general elections made those striking promises just to induce and cajole the electorates and termed the promises as false hope. Nana Frimpomaa speaking in an interview on Yen Sempa morning show on Onua FM on Wednesday April 14 expressed complete disappointment in Akufo Addo’s administration and described his performance as appalling especially in the area of job creation. The CPP chairperson described Nana Addo at the time in opposition as “Guy Toronto” adding that his posture and comments were promising to have made him a wonderful president who would leave a legacy yet there is nothing to show after being in office for 4years. “If you look at how he started his administration, the ministries he created and the number of ministers he appointed; in as much as he appointed plenty ministers the ideal for me was that he wanted to ensure things get done for the best but it didn’t happen. “I don’t remember a lot of things that have impacted the economy, indeed the economy today is not the best, there are more unemployed youth and the youth on the street are still there,” she reiterated. Nana Frimpomaa expressed fret over high accommodation rate and the fact that the government is making empty promises in investing in the affordable housing project meanwhile the debt of the country is sky rocky. She stressed that Nana Addo’s regime has clearly shown that the problems and challenges in Ghana are in excess and deeper than what we think it is. She told the host Kwame Tutu that she is dissatisfied and discouraged because she is not seeing the results of the vision she had in Nana Addo. Akuapem Poloo to undergo pregnancy test after being convicted, remanded
The court has remanded actress Rosemond Brown popularly known as Akuapem Poloo in Police custody after being convicted on her own plea. She will also undergo a pregnancy test in any government hospital, the Circuit Court in Accra stated on Wednesday April 14. She was charged with publication of nude pictures with her seven-year-old son earlier pleaded not guilty when she was first arraigned, but changed her plea on Wednesday. Last week the trial judge ordered that the evidence of the prosecution witness, in the person of the Executive Director of Child Rights International, Mr. Bright K. Appiah would be adduced at the next sitting, along with the case investigator. Akuapem Poloo remanded after pleading guilty to son’s nude pictures
An Accra Circuit Court has convicted Actress and video vixen, Rosemond Brown known in showbiz as Akuapem Poloo for publishing nude pictures of herself in the presence of her child. She was convicted on her own plea by the court presided over by Christina Cann after she changed her plea from not guilty to guilty to all three charges leveled against her. The court however, deferred her sentencing to Friday, April 16, 2021 for her to undergo a pregnancy test in compliance with Section 313(1) of the Act 30. Akuapem Poloo was therefore, remanded into police custody for her to be taken to a government hospital for the pregnancy test to be conducted. The court before remanding her asked if she still stood by her change of plea and she said yes, and she was subsequently remanded. Trial Akuapem Poloo is facing three charges of publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence, a conduct that in any way undermines another person’s privacy or integrity and engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in anyway detracts or is likely to detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being. She was dragged to court after she had displayed her naked picture with her son on social media on June 30, 2020 to celebrate his birthday. She initially pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with four sureties, two of who must be justified. Brief Facts A brief facts of the case presented to the court by the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Agartha Asantewaa were that the complainant is Bright K. Appiah, the Director of Child Rights International Ghana. According to the prosecution, on June 30, 2020, the accused person celebrated her son’s seventh birthday and she took her nude pictures together with her son who was also half-naked and posted same on her Instagram page which went viral on social media. She told the court that, the pictures attracted comments, adding that the behaviour of the accused person was likely to detract from the dignity of her seven-year-old son among others. Chief Inspector Agartha told the court that the complainant petitioned the Director-General, Criminal Investigation Department and the matter was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit. Akuapem Poloo, she said was arrested and in her caution statement, admitted posting the nude picture with her son unintentionally. But prosecution held that the accused person had deliberately posted the nude picture together with her son. Galamsey: ‘I won’t act on hearsay, mere allegations’; give me evidence – Akufo-Addo
President Nana Akufo-Addo has said his fight against illegal small-scale mining will not be based on hearsay and unsubstantiated allegations. At a national dialogue on small-scale mining organised by the Minister of Land and Natural Resources in Accra on Wednesday, 14 April 2021, President Akufo-Addo, who has been criticised in the past for letting some of his appointees, who have been accused of aiding and abetting galamsey activities go scot-free, said he will only act on such whistle-blowing based on evidence. “I’m determined to enforce the laws of illegal mining no matter the subject – high or low”, the President said. “I’ll, however, not act on hearsay or mere allegations without law”, he noted. However, he added: “I will not hesitate to act when the evidence is hard before the police and I would do so irrespective of the standing of the person or persons involved”. That, according to him, “is the true meaning of equality before the law”. Mr Akufo-Addo also said: “I want to build on the modest progress made in my first term”. “I want to learn from our shortcomings and receive productive input from this forum for purposes of enhancing the regulation of the sector”, he noted. He said: “Out of this consultative dialogue, I hope we’ll build a national consensus around a national policy on small-scale mining”. Hopefully, he noted, “at the end of the day, we should be able to build a broad-based national consensus around the necessity to stamp out the menace of illegal small-scale mining and the need to support and grow a responsible small-scale mining”.
