Dual citizenship MP: withdrawal application to be heard on June 8
The Cape Coast High Court has adjourned the suit against Hon. James Gyekye Quayson, the embattled Assin North Member of Parliament’s (MP) to Tuesday, June 8, because the Court was yet to serve first Respondent with a motion filed by his Counsel, Mr Abraham Amaliba to withdraw his services. The Court presided over by Justice Kwasi Boakye adjourned sitting to allow the respondent to take further steps to secure another lawyer to represent him. Mr. Amaliba’s application to withdraw from the case was based on the argument that he found a comment the presiding judge passed during the process to be prejudicial and that he thought the Judge had already predetermined the trial. Briefing the press after the adjournment, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) denied that Mr. Amabila was running from the case but that he believed the Judge would not be fair in his judgement. He said the case was adjourned because the Court was obliged to serve the first respondent for him to take the necessary actions and secure another counsel for the case to proceed. “ The first respondent has not been served for him to take steps to secure a lawyer to represent him in the case” he emphasized. Mr. Gyamfi, said Mr. Quayson had already petitioned the Chief Justice to intervene in the case for the presiding judge to recuse himself for a fair judgment at the end of the case. The Presiding Judge had already ruled over the application by Mr. Quayson’s legal team to recuse himself from the case adding that unless a higher jurisdiction or the Chief Justice orders so he would continue proceedings. Mr. Richard Takyi Mensah, the Central Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said the approach of the legal team of Mr. Quayson to seek adjournment was just an attempt to delay the trial. He said their actions could not be perpetual and no matter what happened, there would be a day of judgment. “I was surprised when I heard Sammy Gyamfi’s comments that the judge had passed comments that were prejudicial” , Mr Takyi Mensah, added. Argument over unwashed Ramadan bowl sparks street fight at Ashaiman
Argument over an unwashed Ramadan bowl temporally turned the street near the Ashaiman main market into a “Bukom Boxing Area,” as two street hawkers exhibit their boxing talents with hefty punches. The ugly scene caused temporal vehicular and pedestrian traffic as most people who have been denied the opportunity to watch boxing due to COVID-19 either slowed-down their cars or even stopped to catch a glimpse of the action. The two-street boxers choose a strategic location conducive for boxing, the passing lane in between the dual carriageway which connects the roundabout, creating a resemblance of a boxing ring and aggressively traded the punches. Eye witness told inquisitive, Ghana News Agency Tema team was manoeuvring the area that the two boxers were friends who sell windscreen wipers. An argument ensued between them which moved from various stages with other hawkers serving as mediators but the two kept their rigid positions, refusing to allow peace to prevail and eventually entered the boxing area to settle it. The fight eventually ended when some pedestrians and hawkers lashed them with cane and belt, the intensity of the beatings forced them to abandon their street boxing. Intriguingly Mohammed Ali one of the fighters, not the legendry Boxing Hero explained to the GNA Tema team after the fight adjudged it a draw that on the day of the celebration of the holy feast “Eid Fitr,” that his friend the other boxer run away after consuming the food without washing the bowl”. He said all attempts to get him wash the bowls proved futile, which laid the foundation for the intermittent argument between them since then and eventually leading to the fight. Confirmed: Nine dead bodies retrieved so far from a mining pit in Gbane as rescue continuous
Apexnewsgh can confidently report that nine human dead bodies have been retrieved from a mining pit in Gbane in the Talensi District of the Upper East region. According to the Upper East Regional Chairman of Small scale miners Robert Tampore Boazor who spoke to Apexnewsgh in an interview Thursday morning said, after a two-day effort of pumping water out from the mining pit where the deceased was trapped following the Monday heavy downpour in Gbane community, they were able to retrieve nine dead bodies. The nine bodies according to Mr. Tampore Boazor was handed over to the families of the deceased after some level of checks by a doctor. He further pointed that, even though nine dead bodies have been found, they will intensify their search this Thursday morning in search of two to three others individuals missing. Meanwhile, Stephen Yakubu the Upper East Regional Minister visited the scene as he announced that a committee will be set up to investigate the cause of the tragedy and other mining accidents in the area. However, the leadership of the small-scale miners in the Upper East region has blamed the incident on a flood caused by a shoddy bridge construction in the area. BREAKING: Abuga Pele In Critical Condition, Hospitalised At Ridge Hospital
Incarcerated former National Coordinator of the defunct Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), Mr. Abuga Pele has been hospitalised. He was rushed to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital last week. Mr. Abuga Pele per a report sighted on Graphic Online is in a critical condition at the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the hospital, after he was taken there from the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison last week. Mr. Pele is currently serving a six-year jail term at the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison for causing financial loss to the state. The court concluded that Mr. Pele entered into an unlawful agreement with Mr. Assibit, prevailing on the state to make payments when no work had been done.
