“Stop criticizing and insulting us” – Rev. Father lashes congregation.
Reverend Father Gabriel Atidoo, the Parish Priest of Zuarungu Catholic Church in the Upper East Region came tough at his congregation last Sunday when he called on them to stop insulting the priests. Rev. Fr. Gabriel who sounded visibly angry lambasted his church members for being in what he described as “the habit of sharing negative things” about the priesthood. He bemoaned how church members care less about the decline in the number of priests produced in the diocese but would rather be engaged in criticism of the priest. “So I beg you, if you want to insult a priest, don’t insult me. Go and bring your own child to become a priest and then you can insult. I beg you. And stop insulting us.”- Fr. Gabriel warned. Rev. Fr. Gabriel Atidoo was speaking to a congregation at the Kongo Catholic Church during the first mass celebration of Rev. Fr. Jacob Yamig who was ordained on 31st July, 2021 at the Minor Basilica in Navrongo. The unhappy man of God was heard accusing parents of not doing enough to send their children to the seminary. He added that parents’ discuss negative thoughts about the priests with their children, thereby discouraging them from choosing the priesthood vocation. “Who do want to bring his son and he will be serving you and you’ll be insulting him? How do you expect any child to ever desire to be a priest when all that he hears is criticism of the priest?”- Rev. Fr. Gabriel questioned. 622 Ashanti fires burn up GHS15m in H1-2021 – GNFS
The Ashanti Region recorded 622 fire outbreaks from January to June 2021 with an estimated property of GHS15,232,581. Nine people died out of the fires. The Acting Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Henry Giwah, said the figure is low as compared to the reported fires recorded in 2020 within the same period. Addressing the media at a press conference organised by the Regional Security Council, Mr Giwah said 749 fire cases were recorded last year within the same period. Comparing the figures of the two half years, he said this year’s fires saw a decline by 20.4 per cent. Mawuse Oliver Barker-Vormawor, one of the lead convenors of #FixTheCountry campaign has been arrested by the East Legon Police for breaking road traffic regulations as he drove in Accra. The police picked up Mr Barker-Vormawor after he allegedly failed to observe road marking while driving. Mr Barker-Vormawor’s arrest will likely negatively impact preparations for #FixTheCountry demonstrations scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday, August 4, 2021.
