Former president John Dramani Mahama has said he is willing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with an autographed copy of the manifesto. Mobile Money agents to effect strike from Thursday
Mobile money agents across the country will activate a demonstration and strike on Thursday, 23 December 2021 to express their displeasure against the 1.75 percent E-levy proposed in the 2022 budget. In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana (MMAAG), Mr. Evans Otumfuo, said: “The union wishes to inform the general public, customers and users of mobile money that as part of actions to register our total displeasure with the government’s proposed e-levy of 1.75 percent, we deem it necessary to embark on an industrial action”. “As an association that implements all mobile money policies through our operators, we see this levy as very regressive and critical to the survival of our businesses”. “Consequently, as part of our demonstration on Thursday, 23 December 2021, our services as mobile money agents will not be accessible across the country”. “All agents will go on strike, hence all outlets will remain closed. If all efforts remain futile, an indefinite action will be taken thereafter”, the group’s statement stressed.
Minority’s missing GHS207m 1D1F cash claim ‘misleading, inaccurate’ – MoTI
The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI) has dismissed claims that some GHS207million of GHS508 million earmarked for de-risking One District-One Factory loans cannot be accounted for. The Minority made the allegation claiming that the Ministry of Trade and Industry, which is in charge of the programme, said GHS2.69 billion in loans has been given to the 1D1F programme. Ellembelle MP Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah told journalists that “we are asking the ministry that we will need the names of the banks and the names of each of the companies as well as the amount each and every company has taken”. “Initially, the ministry said it will take some time for them to get these documents”. “They dragged it and finally they brought us the list of the banks with the names of the companies and the amounts”. “We insisted that without that we will not approve their budget,” he explained. He added: “We finally got that report this morning. Unfortunately, the ministry was unable to account out of the GHS269 million loans given to the banks”. “The ministry was only able to account for GHS62,281,484.29 million; what it means is that a total amount of GHS207,407, 899 has not been accounted for. In other words, that amount, as far as we are concerned, is missing”. “It is important that the press and the people of Ghana take interest in this matter, and the minister at the helm of affairs, the Hon. Alan Kyerematen, must come clean to the people of Ghana to explain where the amount of GHS207,407, 899 to basically de-risk these loans to One District-One Factory is.” But responding to the claims, MoTI in a statement signed by the Chief Director Mr Patrick Yaw Nimo said the statement attributed to the Ranking Member is not only “misleading but totally inaccurate.” He explained that the Ministry, upon request by the Ranking Member submitted full information on the application, the full amount of GHS269 million allocated for interest subsidy payments for loan facilities granted by selected participating Financial Institutions (PFIs) to de-risk loans and advanced to 1D1F companies. Over 40 Basic Schools in Bolgatanga Municipality without classroom and furniture–MCE
It has been revealed that over 40 Basic Schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region have no classrooms or furniture. This was revealed by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Rex Asanga during a press soiree organized by the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) on December 15, 2021. Responding to a question asked about a neglected school in his community in Sumburungu known as Atampuurum B primary, Mr. Asanga acknowledged the school’s long-awaited predicament. According to him, there are over 40 neglected schools across the Municipality: “That’s true, me from that area i know the problem and is not just Atampuurum B primary. When I took up office, i asked the Municipal Director of Education to give me a list of all the schools that have no classrooms or furniture and she brought a list of over 40 schools. So we are looking to see how we can prioritize and begin systematically to see if we can solve some of these problems. Proposal for Nasara coordinator in every polling station rejected– Joseph Dindiok Kpemka
The leaders of the New Patriotic Party, have rejected the proposal to have Nasar coordinators at every polling station. The party concluded that there will be Nasar coordinators in each constituency and region but not at the polling station as earlier rumored.
