This was contained in a letter signed by Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, on behalf of the president. Also, in a post shared by the chairman of the GACL Board, Paul Adom Otchere, he celebrated his members and shared a photo with the senior journalist who is also the president of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG). “We are particularly delighted to welcome renowned sports journalist and nationalist, Mr Kwabena Yeboah affectionally called The Writer, he comes on board with a two term experience as a member of the Ghana Free Zones Authority. Mr Kwadwo Egyir-Danso is also warmly welcomed,” Paul’s post said. The two met at a brief ceremony on the instruction of the Deputy Minister of Transport, Alhassan Tampuli, to swear in the additional board members of the Ghana Airports Company Limited. E-levy would not amount to double taxation–Ursula Owusu Ekuful
Ursula Owusu Ekuful, the Communication and Digitization Minister, has said the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) would not amount to double taxation. She disclose it during the government’s town-hall meeting at the Eastern Regional Capital – Koforidua, the Minister noted that the revenue generated would also afford the government to curtail cyber-crime in the country. “Businesses have move from physical locations to online outside the reach of the GRA, depriving the government of much the needed revenue. We need to revert that and the E-Levy would do that. It would enable the government to build proper digital infrastructure, create digital market place which would connect buyers and sellers,” she explained. “When you use a credit or a debit cards you pay between two to three percent transaction fees and the levy is on the lower end of the total cost. All bank transfers also attract bank charges so it is not true that this is going to be double taxation or tax our capital as well. “We would have funding for the road construction and maintenance and more reliable payment for existing contracts, to reduce the overall burden on the government. Such infrastructure development would also create more jobs for the youth and cut down on youth unemployment. As YouthStart would also do,” she pointed. “If the funds are generated internally, we will either go and beg for aid, borrow and so we cannot continue to go borrow and beg to finance our development. The government is seeking to meet its agenda of Ghana Beyond Aid and this requires all of us to support the E-levy and contribute our quota to national development. PNC congratulates Speaker of Parliament, tasked Judges to emulates from….
The opposition People’s National Convention (PNC) has extended their calls to Ghanaian judges and lawyers to emulate from the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin’s wardrobe change and also come up with a traditional made in Ghana uniform different from their current one. The party congratulating Mr Bagbin’s decision to ditch the colonial Speaker’s cloak for a traditional African wear also encouraged members of parliament and all institutions of state to emulate “this fine showing of our culture”. Below is the full PNC statement: GREAT MOVE SPEAKER, The PNC commends the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament for that show of our rich culture. The Speaker was looking too handsome in his regalia and that is a clear representation of the Ghanaian culture other than the usual gown. He is certainly adding to the numerous call, especially by the first gentleman of the land- President Nana Akuffo Addo, that public sector workers can be in African prints. Also President Kuffour in 2006 directed all public institutions to wear local textiles on Fridays to help boost the local industries who are into textiles production. It will also help us as a country to appreciate and patronise our own products and to live as Africans. Not only should members of parliament emulate this fine showing of our culture but this should be emulated by all institutions of state. We only need to add a cultural touch to what we inherited from the Europeans. Our courts could adopt a dress code that will still ensure discipline and at the same time showcase our rich tradition. On the 7th of January 2021, our Supreme court judges wore torn and faded uniform to the inauguration ceremony of President Nana Akufo-Addo and the PNC wondered whether it was due to lack of funds to purchase materials to sew new uniform or they were popping up with the status quo of our colonial masters. Prof. Kofi Awoonor mocked educated Ghanaians in his poem ‘We have found a new land’. It was about Africans imitating the dressing of their colonial masters and abandoning their own. The judges and lawyers can also come up with a uniform different from their current one that should have a local touch, and that will be admirable. The PNC is of the believe that our economic condition and our ways of life would be improved the moment we decide to patronise our own products and live as Ghanaians and as Africans. Aside this monumental strides by the speaker, the Party wishes to indulge him to put his feet on the ground by remaining objective and neutral to ensure a healthy debate in the house. His ability to manage the house in the wake of E-levy shall be a test of his ability to remain a good a Speaker who will lead the house to strengthen our democratic credentials. MTN Group CEO pays a day’s working visit to Ghana
MTN Group CEO and President Ralph Mupita has paid a day’s working visit to Ghana to engage some key stakeholders of the business and reiterate MTN’s commitment to help grow the telecommunications industry in Ghana. The Group CEO and his team of executives paid courtesy calls on the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Revenue Authority and Ministry of Finance to interact and discuss issues of mutual interest. During the visit to the Bank of Ghana Mr. Mupita expressed his appreciation to the Central Bank for the support given to the business over the years. In his remarks, the Governor of The Bank Dr. Ernest Addison congratulated MTN for the work done in the mobile financial services sector and indicated the BoG will count on the business to champion innovation and financial inclusion.
