And we had to save the banking system and the deposits of 4.6 million people”. “Of course, we also had COVID coming in at the end of 2019”, and “And we had the worst depression since the 1930s in the global economy and COVID had its major impact”. “Of course, from the President’s point of view at the time of COVID, the emphasis was to save lives and was not on fiscal discipline and, so, we had to, basically, focus on saving lives at great fiscal cost, but before we could know it, Russia and Ukraine also came to add to our troubles and we are dealing with those issues”, Dr. Bawumia said. “fiscal discipline, really is the ability of the government to balance revenues and expenditures and when discipline is not maintained, expenditures inevitably exceed revenues and that creates a deficit”. “Following where we are, the government has focused, in the 2022 budget, on fiscal consolidation to enhance debt and fiscal sustainability, as we implement our economic revitalization and transformation programme”, he said. “the implementation of the measures highlighted in the 2022 budget should lead to a significant fiscal adjustment from a projected deficit of 12.1 percent of GDP in 2021 to 7.4 percent of GDP in 2022, and this represents a 4.7 percentage-point downward adjustment in the deficit in one year”. “In January 2022, the government announced and began implementing a 20-per cent expenditure cut as part of the fiscal stabilization and debt sustainability measures through the minister of finance and this was followed by an additional 10 percent cut in discretionary expenditure, all an attempt to balance the fiscal position and restore fiscal discipline following the banking crisis, the COVID, and Ukraine-Russia war and so on”, Dr. Bawumia said. In addition, Dr. Bawumia said, “the ministry of finance has strengthened expenditure monitoring systems and processes to ensure effective implementation of these measures”. Talensi: Over Six Persons in Police custody for the death of alleged witch and wizard
At least over Six persons have been arrested by the police following their alleged involvement in the death of an aged man and accused of being witches in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region. The information said, the aged man died instantly after taking the concoction, while the aged woman died a while later. UWR: NPP Executives and Regional Minister in serious power battle
According to information from a credible source reaching Apexnewsgh.com, there is an ongoing misunderstanding between members of the Regional Executive Committee members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Region and the Regional Minister causing a unanimous decision against the Regional Minister. Meanwhile, following the misunderstanding, the Regional Executive Committee members have called on all party members in the region to distance themselves from President Akufo-Addo’s tour of the area. The president is expected to pay a working visit to the region on Sunday, 21 August 2022. The regional executives explained that the decision was a protest against the hijacking of all activities concerning the President’s visit by Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih. This was made known at a short press conference held in the Upper West Regional capital, Wa, on Wednesday, 17 August 2022, shortly after the regional executive committee meeting. Breaking News: Mion-Lana, Naa Abdulai III has died
The next to the Dagbon Skin, the Mion-Lana, Naa Abdulai III, has died. He passed away on Wednesday, 17 August 2022, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness. Mion Lana Abdulai Mahamadu was born in 1974 and became Bolin Lana at the age of 14 after the death of his father Yaa Naa Mahammudu Abdulai. He held this title for over 30 years before his enskinment as the Paramount Chief of the Mion traditional area on the 3rd of March, 2019. In 2019, he decided as a traditional ruler to embark a spiritual journey to the Holy Land of Mecca where he performed his Hajj and returned to his traditional area the same year. Shortly after his death was announced, his remains were airlifted to Yendi for burial. He died and left behind four wives (4) and Twelve 12 children His death came as a shock to many people in Dagbon. The Kingdom indeed has lost a great Son.
